Maybe a reach already as its been 1 week , but he is a huge component to our success This man, although a terrible head coach was absolutely terrific to watch this week. He prepared Geno to a gameplan and had him execute a great offensive scheme against the Buccs. This Tampa team will have a excellent defense this year. The only downside was those wildcat calls which I think will slowly dissipate hopefully as we dont have the package of players to pull that off so well. Especially when Geno has a great rhythm going we need to cut that shit out. But that was a very good pickup and I think Geno will like working with Marty mainly because he will build a offense geared towards his strengths. I.E. That pistol/shotgun formation.
I couldn't figure out his use of the wildcat yesterday esp in the first half. Like last season it kind of didn't fit in, didn't work and took away any momentum. Esp. not smart when you have a rookie Qb and you're trying to get him into the swing of things.
The best of Mornhinweg is yet to come. Rex and Mornhinweg as I said are a great combination! The play-calling was very good in my opinion other than the Kerley rush.
I get it. You're going against the number 1 run D, and you have a rookie QB. So the wildcat is two-fold: take pressure of the rookie, and give the defense a different look. Everyone's still upset about the wildcat because it brings up memories of Tebow, but it worked with Brad Smith, and we had some 4 or 5 yard pick ups with it yesterday (which doesn't seem like a lot, but against the Bucs yesterday it was).
i agree ... Idzik has to get kudos as well for making the hire ... i am not a fan of the wildcat either ... but will put up with it if that is what MM wants.
Wildcat call was out of necessity. Jets' conventional running attack as of now is a joke. Make no mistake about it. And you cannot win the game if you cannot run the ball when you have to. Geno is not even quarter the QB that Brady is - so the defense will be stacking the box more often than not. I don't know how else you can get ground game going without this. Moreover, if it succeeds, now that adds a dimension that the defense has to think about down the road. It's always a good thing.
Didn't mind the wildcat usage. A few plays here and there and it wasn't overused. Wildcat actually gained some rushing yards moreso then the QB handoffs . Wasn't much but a little better. However, Kerley throwing out of it on third down was getting too cute. Save that type of trick play when it's not 3rd and short.
Wow, some premature love here. The offense looked better than Sparano's mess, but not THAT much better. I thought there was some terrible playcalling early on. Maybe they weren't holding back because of Geno, maybe not. They looked much better in the second half. Morningwood has always struggled with short yardage playcalling, ask Philly fans, and we saw some of that yesterday. The 3rd and 1 wildcat sweep made me want to break something. That's a tough read run to make for any RB, and they run it with Kerley. good grief. That was a pretty key moment at the time, in the game too.
No go back and look at the preseason, at one point or another all QBs posted passer ratings over 90. Now, competition level is clearly a factor, but this is the first Legit OC Rex has had since he has been here,
Stop.. MM is light and day when compared to Tony S bullshit offense. MM has had a top 10 offensive unit 8 out of the past 11 seasons. You can't tell me this guy isn't an upgrade. I have been saying it for months. MONTHS.. MM and David Lee will be the best off-season moves we made. Hands down, no question. This game was already a ton better in the play-calling department in comparison and MM still has the training wheels on right now, I suspect after the first quarter of the season he will start to really open up the pass. I'm excited to see this guy work and I want him as our OC for a long time. I really do.
You are crazy sir. Look at the 3rd down success, the amount of completions. When was the last time we saw a QB complete 60% of their passes in a regular season game?
He was right though. You should probably go re-watch some games from last year and then re-watch yesterday's game. Hell, take your pick on what game you want to re-watch from last year, it doesn't matter because the game yesterday was better play calling wise then any of the games last year. I'm not even over exaggerating.
You're high. Sanchez, the guy that sucks posted a 90+ passer rating, then Hung 30 on Detroit, before Geno, a rookie got hurt, he posted over 90, and Simms mopped up comparable skill level competition. Go ahead, make the case that Schotty and Sparano were as good
I'm not saying Morningwood sucks.. He's a legitimate NFL offensive coordinator, sure. But lets not crown the guy. Or even call him the "best Jets acquisition this offseason" Not only is it way TOO early (look at week 1 with Sparano last season) But had Lavonte David not committed that bonehead penalty, the Jets lose that game and the story of the loss is how in-effective the offense was in running the ball and putting points up.
