What game were you watching? Tampa Bay was only 6 for 16 (37%) on 3rd downs.

It worked pretty damn well all preseason.

The one thing that has me concerned was the run game. We're gonna need the run game to step up to alleviate some pressure off Geno. That is really the only major concern I have with this team.

    3-5-TB25 (10:00) J.Freeman pass short middle to V.Jackson to NYJ 36 for 39 yards (D.Landry)

3-8-TB8 (9:33) (Shotgun) J.Freeman pass short right to M.Williams to TB 21 for 13 yards (A.Allen; A.Barnes). TB-M.Williams was injured during the play. His return is Questionable.

    3-9-TB22 (8:19) (Shotgun) J.Freeman pass short right to V.Jackson to TB 39 for 17 yards (J.Bush).

    3-9-TB15 (13:28) (Shotgun) J.Freeman pass short right to V.Jackson to TB 37 for 22 yards (D.Landry) [D.Harris].

    3-10-TB37 (1:51) (Shotgun) J.Freeman pass short left to V.Jackson to NYJ 26 for 37 yards (D.Davis)

The most disturbing unit today HAS to be the o-line. NO push whatsoever in the running game, Geno was getting killed all game. TB has a very good defensive front granted, but still not an excuse, gotta see improvement Thursday night.

What's your point? The Jets defense stopped Tampa Bay on the majority of their 3rd downs. Do you want me to copy and paste all those third downs they didn't convert?

All this pointless defense bashing would be moot if we had an offense that could score more than 20 damn points a game

We can agree or disagree with Rex's aggressive blitzing when the chips are down. That's his style. No one however, has qualified the fact that even though he has accepted full responsibility, the play was not designed to leave Jackson wide open. So someone was out of position. We know it but it goes unnoticed.
Further, the notion that this is the same D of old is so far off the mark is not worth bringing up.

Putting that play aside, there are some comments made by some that are simply rubbish.

First, the notion that we only scored 1TD and we were lucky to win. Can I remind you guys that similarly the reason Tampa scored one of the two TD is because of our gift to them on the fumble by Geno. That is freaking football.

Second, it was not the Jets beating Tampa, but Tampa mistakes that drove the victory. Such shit, last year I can count at least 5 games we lost because of the mistakes we made and we accepted the fact we sucked and gave kudos for the opposition ability to capitalize on our mistakes. But when the situation reverses we are just lucky.

I take luck any time, but this victory was much more than luck. We played a damned good defensive team, probably close to the best we will face all year. Was it pretty, no. But we stood strong, took our hits and kept on fighting. AND WON FAIR AND SQUARE.

Yesterday all the experts said we did not have much of a chance, Tampa Bay was play-off bound with a much better team than the Jets.

Today the same experts are spouting the nonsense that we were lucky to win. Luck my ass. We played well enough to scrape a win and we did.

I'm beginning to think we have some Jet fans that can not cope with the idea of winning, period. Happiness is unacceptable to them. Hell, this team is not the 49ers or GB, but I'm damn proud of their effort.

Of course the talk now is that we will get schooled by Brady and the Pats. May be. Will see.
Till then kudos to the Jets for a damned good victory.

The last time we won a home season opener, we went 6-10

I agree with the original poster in that today's game was eerily similar to many previous Jet games in the past. The fact that the offense at times looked good but still put the defense in a bad position to give up points was just like many games we've seen in prior years. The same with the defense generally playing very well, but not being able to seal the deal. I couldn't believe that the Jets wasted so much time in calling their third timeout. I was yelling at the TV. Simply no excuse to not have at least a few more seconds there at the end. It would have been great to have the time to throw one more play to try and get a little closer rather than rely on a 48 yarder.

All in all a "lucky" win, but the Jets aren't alone in that respect. So many games are going down to the wire now that each close win you get is something to be enjoyed. especially with all of the shit have taken in the media it definitely feels good.
