I was relieved Schiano didn't call that dumbass 'ice the kicker' timeout late, I thought Folk would have to hit two FG's.
Many positives coming out of this game. Geno, Poised for a rookie, made his mistakes and went right back at it. Other then the fumble did not have TO that cost is points. Knew when to get rid if the ball most of the time, can see this improving over time. Really think MM needs to keep the ball in Geno's hands more and less wildcat. Geno seem to get more comfortable as the game went on. I really believe if the O line will give him the time he will really surprise teams. Run game, Yes it looked pretty awful today, but we all must keep in mind we just played the number one rated run defense last year. Not to take away anything away from the next opponent but that defense is not the Buc's defense. I expect we will see a much improved run game Thursday night. Which in turn will only take more pressure off Geno and allow the offense to open up a bit more
Geno looks like he can potentially be an NFL QB. That in itself is promising. Sheldon Richardson was a beast, and Milliner was decent.
You can take this to the bank. Brady is not having the same success he had today against our Defense if they show up the way they did today. Just not going to happen. People laughed at me...but I called it about the upcoming Pats game...I just don't think they are ready to handle us right now. I'm even MORE convinced after seeing how Geno played. He takes this experience and builds on it...I think we are catching the Patriots at the PERFECT time right now. Just an opinion.
Landry was standing on the midfield stripe on a draw play from the buc 20...wtf...and he missed the tackle on VJ that could have cost us the game
Good thing is the run D also. Rex said they game planned, and so did the announcers to stop Martin, and I mean I'm glad it worked. They really kept him contained really well. He busted out one late run, but that's it. Doug Martin is a great runner too. Freeman had a pretty iffy game which is good for the pass D which struggled on the back end.
Also good thing. Rex took fault for the 3rd and 10 playcall with the press. Then in the locker room speech SNY showed, he took fault for the communication error again. Then Landry in his interview took blame for not making the tackle.
A lot of encouraging things for sure: 1) Solid debut for Geno. He already seems to handle the blitz better than Sanchez ever did. 2) Legit performance from the defensive line. This is arguably our best D-line since 2004. Wilkerson is legit and Richardson seems to get a push on every play. I can't wait for Coples to return. 3) Winslow. He's really fucking talented. Please stay healthy. 4) Folk - He's been a surprisingly good Jet . . . he's made a lot of big kicks for us.
Judging by the lack of respect that ESPN give Ryan, the Bucs will probably still be ranked ahead of the Jets. After watching the early games the bottom of the list should probably be: 32 Jacksonville 31 Steelers
Don't forget about Big Snacks when giving props to the dline. Was in the backfield all game. Also Lankster with the awesome over the shoulder body slam. Sent from my SAMSUNG-SGH-I337 using Tapatalk 2
One more encouraging thing about today ... We actually won a football game where we threw the ball 39 times. If you look at most at our W's last season, we were terrified to throw the ball, and tried to "survive" our way through the game. Basically Unwatchable. I'd like to see MM incorporate more downfield throws on Thursday, but we trusted our QB to run a bonfire NFL offense today, and it was nice to see.
Thats what was missing, we need to air it out more, completion or not. The Bucs kept the box loaded and if we air it out....we can keep them honest. I think Geno was just looking not to make the big mistake and didnt look downfield.
I'm glad to see the team was disciplined out there especially when three personal fouls by TB were chances the Jets needed. These are things attributable to coaching. Schiano didn't have his D-backs ready to play the receivers without getting flagged for those now illegal hits but right after that you saw similar situations on the other side of the ball with Jets defenders going in low. And thank you for the bonehead late hit out of bounds on Smith; it made all the difference in the world.
I was actually STUNNED that Schiano didn't call the Timeout there. I was waiting for it but he let him kick it. Whatever. Folk just said "FOLK U, BUCS!".
