Ecstatic about the win! But some bad trends under Rex continue. 1) Bad clock management - not calling TO's immediately 2) Defense that looks strong all game - gives up lead late 3) Terrible 3rd down d - giving up a handful of firsts on third and long. 4) Different OC, same shit, a number of boneheaded play calls on third and short. 5) Fuck the wildcat 6) With a lead and the ball, went into turtle mode and basically didn't give a real effort to end the game with the ball.
First game of the season. A lot of those will work it self out if the Jets keep winning. I do agree bad clock management by Rex but he did get lucky in the end this time
I think the disturbing trend is lack of run game. Besides that, you have to say the D gave the game away and then gave us a chance to win (Thanks Demario). The same thing the offense did. The Jets didn't go into turtle mode, they threw the ball on 2nd and 3rd down and showed a lot of trust in Geno. First throw went to Hill, TO. Second throw Geno looked around and found nobody and took a sack, for another TO. I wouldn't call that turtling. I think the main concern with the defense is their conditioning. THe pass rush seemed to disappear late in the game and well the BIG missed tackle.
Who fucking cares? We won and were supposed to lose. This is football they don't take away style points.
1. Lack of running game 2. Lack of Jets trying to win the game at the end with the ball 3. Two turnovers and another fumble that was recovered by us 4. Oh and the offense still is the problem of this team
1,2,3 agree. 4,5,6 rookie QB and probably the right moves. On 2 specifically, Rex likes to have his guys on the field in crunch time. His guys tend to be vets and vet legs late tend to be slower.
I don't get why people are saying #2. We had the ball and ran, TB didn't call a TO. On 2nd and 9 ish we threw. On 3rd and 4 we threw again. We tried to end it, but couldn't.
agreed! and we did it with a rookie QB with little experience under center! The kid stood tall in adversity.
All good points but I feel like the Bucs run D was unconscious, it gave us no choice but to run stupid plays on third down..
This, Geno looked much more poised than the preseason version of himself. I was really impressed on 3rd and 4 before the 2 minute warning, he didn't force a throw and just took a sack. Also, at the end of the first half. That play where he rolled to the right and just waited and waited and waited and found Winslow.
i Think it is completely unreasonable for us fans to expect the d to play better. If you leave a game 1 up with 3mins left , more often than not a good qb will drive down to field goal range using all 4 downs. We are the only team to blame the D for the game after letting one 17 yrds run all game!
i was annoyed that, regardless of the fact that the jets won mainly because of their own discipline and focus, the announcers had to call it a 'circus' win for a 'circus' team. geez. i guess we'll have to deal with it for a while... also enjoyed the 'jets drama' package. ooooh...quarterback battle. new gm....so seductive...
Only ninety yards rushing (and only 44 yards on 22 carries by Ivory and Powell). With more productivity on the ground, the Jets might have been able to put the game away earlier, or at least give the defense a breather.
This. It's disappointing when the D lets up a late score, but most other defenses are letting up scores all throughout the game. Once again, the defense let up only 17 points (7 of which came at the end of a 5-yard drive), and scored points (on a safety). Shouldn't need miracle finishes to win a game like that. Hopefully, Geno can build on his performance today so the next time that happens, we won't.
