If he is on the roster this week it is which is why he will likely be let go before the game and re-signed Monday.
Only LT retired and was out of football in 2012. Burress wasn't signed until later in the season but he was still playing football. Homes and Keller were the other 2 top targets which played in all 16 games in 2011. So only 1 out of his top 4 targets were out of football and LT was still good enough to play if he wanted to. If these receivers in 2011 were so bad how were they good enough for Sanchez to have his career high in TD passes? Turnovers are an issue with Sanchez regardless of the talent around him. It is pretty easy to understand that if you watch him play. He makes boneheaded decisions and has very poor accuracy at times. That doesn't change with better receivers.
LT and mason retired, Plax had a forced retirement until late in the year when Pitt had some injuries. I should say 3 of his top 5 targets, 2 of his top 3 WRs.
That would still be wrong. Mason wasn't a top 5 target or ever a factor in the passing game. He had 13 receptions for 115 yards and was traded by week 5. Greene, Tomlinson, McKnight, Kerley, Holmes, Keller, and Burress all had more receiving yards then Mason did. LT was the only one completely out of football the next year. His top 3 receivers were Holmes, Burress, Kerley. Only 1 was out of football the next year and he wasn't completely out of football.
Mason was expected to be a huge factor, rex said he'd catch 90 balls. They then realized he couldn't play anymore and got rid of him and he had an angry Holmes, rookie kerley and fresh out of prison Plax. What a group!
Rex has made a lot of predictions that don't come true. It doesn't matter what Mason was expected to be. It matters what he was. He wasn't a top 5 target. He wasn't even a top 7 target! The group was so bad that Sanchez was able to have his career high in TD passes. The constant is the turnovers. Those won't change no matter who he has playing WR because it isn't a WR problem. It is a Mark Sanchez problem.
it does matter what he was expected to be b/c that was a big FA addition they brought in. he and Plax were the keys to the offseason and neither was very good other than Plax in the RZ.
i dont really think it matters whether his targets were out of football or not, the point is the offense kept changing, schottys scheme had been blown up and he couldnt adjust for shit, and sanchez had been asked to take on a bigger role as the team around him changed for the worse. the turnovers are probably the biggest complaint about his game. i get that its a big concern, but there are quotes of opposing defenders saying they knew what route was going to be run when schotty was here, so how can you blame them all on sanchez? also, its been pointed out that schotty gets a lot of turnovers out of all his qbs, so its probly a system problem. i think he can be coached and i think he has enough talent and smarts to take over the offense. if sanchez gets the starting job back when he recovers, then hopefully well see how much system makes a difference in the way he plays. if not, well, hes got turnover problems and theres gonna be nothing we can do about it but move on
The thing that separates Flacco and Sanchez is turnovers. They started their careers in similarly loaded situations. They both throw up some real clunkers of a game, but Sanchez throws up 2-4 types of games in a season while Flacco throws 1-2. Flacco protects the ball via the air much better. Sanchez's lowest INT % is 2.9 while Flacco's highest is 2.8% in his rookie year. That's the big separation between the two as a QB. EDIT: That doesn't mean Joe Flacco is "elite" or a top tier QB, or even belongs in the discussion.
In 2009 and 2010 Sanchez had two of the better receivers at contesting the ball in the air in Cotchery and Edwards. Both of those guys were pretty good at getting their hand in and playing some DB on a poorly thrown pass when they had too.
really? has it gotten to the point where people are asking why flacco doesnt get the same crap for turning it over that sanchez does? is the awnser to that not blatantly obvious!?! HE IS THE REIGNING SUPERBOWL MVP! he had ZERO picks in the playoffs! how about because flacco has turned it over 25 FEWER times then sanchize in spite of have 200+ MORE attempts? stop it. just.... stop it. this thread is a joke as is. comparing sanchez turnover woes to flacco is idiotic.
guys the fact is that talking to junc is like talking to a wall. he will never ever ever stop bullshitting his way around the truth in order to keep "debating"
Bottom Line Flacco threw some passes that were getting his receiverd killed. He had a bad game, the drops ala 2012 Jets didn't help. Btw... Dallas Clark can play, Holmes was traded for a mid level pick, Edward was available bcuz of his off field issues. If Clark is past his prime then so were LT and Cotchery. The Jets had a great Oline and running game, our receivers were never special. The amount of change in receivers in Sanchezs tenure as a starting qb is ridiculous and unheard of. Also Sanchez is better with his footwork, and actually doesn't stare down his receivers as much as Flacco. Flacco has a better arm, less athletic For sure, and in mid Range passes Sanchez has just as much heat if not more.
azhar, your wrong. they are not even close at this point in their play. its ok. we dont need to compare mark to anyone anymore.
I'd say AVERAGE and ABOVE AVERAGE....what I want to know is, what has Mark's 4th Quarter Passer Rating been in each of his 4 years ?????
I'm not debating they're close, one is a superbowl champ and the other is on the sidelines. I'm making a pure physical comparison. Sanchez obviously has all the talent, but his environment vs Flaccos environment is the biggest difference. Heck physically Jamarcus Russell is phenomenal, we already know how that story goes. I Def think this offense in all the Sanchez years, showed the most promise and fluidity with him looking most comfortable.
Yes Junc, and despite playing in a pass first offense last night, something Sanchez has never played in, Flacco had 62 attempts and only 2 interceptions in 62...that's the same as two of, and it's only one game. Not a season and not a career, one game. and despite that one game he's still close to a 2 to 1 career TD to turnover rate, as opposed to Sanchez's career negative TD to turnover rate. Career pattern makes a difference in analysis. Lets compare shall we, and mind you that Flacco has one more season so he SHOULD be at a disadvantage here. Career fumbles lost. Sanchez 20, Flacco 18. Career interceptions Sanchez 69, Flacco 58 (including the two picks this season). So lets see, despite starting 19 more games, Despite 684 more pass attempts. he has 2 fewer lost fumbles than Turnover Sanchez, and 11 less interceptions than Turnover Sanchez. Sanchez is -9 TD to turnovers over his career, 9 fewer TD's than turnovers. Flacco has a career 2.3 Interception to attempt rate (including yesterdays game). Sanchez 3.7% interception to attempt rate. Flacco has a career 4.1% TD rate on his pass attempts, Sanchez 3.6%. In other words, Flacco throw's about 2x the TD's to interceptions over his career, Sanchez throws fewer TD's than interceptions per 100 passes over his career. Flacco over his career has had 10 2 interception games 2 3 interception games and 1 4 interception game. Sanchez on the other hand in the aforementioned 19 fewer starts, Sanchez has 9 2 interception games, 5 3 interception games, 2 4 interception games, and 1 5 interception game Even if you took out last seasons interceptions from Sanchez, which would give him 1 fewer starts, he's still have 7 2 pick games, 4 3 pick games, 1 4 pick game and 1 5 pick game. Which even with, at that point it would be 34 fewer starts and he'd STILL have more 3+ pick games than Flacco over his career. Think about that. Take out what you call Sanchez's worst year for turnovers and he's STILL throws more 3+ pick games than Flacco AND is only 3 2 pick games less than Flacco. That is why Flacco gets slack for a 2 interception game and Sanchez doesn't. And there in lies the problems with your analysis in most of your arguments Junc, you look at the small picture out of context with the large picture. Now if Flacco has a season this year where he turns the ball over as much or more than he scores you bet there are going to be hounds on his door. But he'll still have something in his 6th year that Sanchez doesn't....5 straight years of Playoff births, and a Superbowl ring. Now those last two achievements are team stats from my point of view, but since you put such a premium on the misleading stat of QB wins. It's true that Sanchez got to 4 playoff wins faster than Flacco, 4 in the first 2 years compared to 3. But after 5 seasons Flacco had 9 post season wins, fastest to 9 ever I believe...something Sanchez has no shot at. And Flacco isn't even an elite QB, he's on the tier right below the elite QB's...Sanchez is on the bottom floor.
Keep in mind when you compare Flacco and Sanchez both are extremely bad in the Fumble department. Total fumbles is a better comparison as one cannot control luck. For example in 2010 Sanchez had 9 total fumbles but only 1 lost. Compare that to his 2011 and 2012 seasons with 10 total and 8 lost and 14-8 in 2012. Sanchez with 43 total fumbles in 4 years is the NFL all time leader in fumbles per game. Flacco is not far behind Sanchez with 49 total fumbles in one more year of play. Although the offense Sanchez has played in has protected him a lot more than Flacco as he has been one of the least hit QBs in football during his 4 years so arguably Sanchez's problem with fumbling stands out even more. Either way you look at it is hard not to say that both are 2 of the worst QBs to ever play the game in terms of fumbling.
Why is this thread still thriving? Smith is in - Sanchez out. This thread makes no sense at this point. Sanchez haters win. /thread
