Geno threw 3 INT's in a quarter of football, over 4 quarters that's 12 turnovers, so yeah he'll need to be much improved for the Jets to win, he was about as bad as you can be vs. the Giants. No team could overcome that type of play at QB, not to mention his safety to boot.
I know this might sound absolutely bonkers, but I like for my team to play the game before saying they've lost.
This season can either be one where the media stomps the Jets into the dirt all year because they played the odds that the Jets would play badly in a rebuilding year... ...or one where the NY media and ESPN and NFLN get exposed for terrible journalism while they fall on their faces trying to figure out ways to recover from their ill-conceived barrage of hate for this team. Even AFCE rival fans are commenting on the overt trashing the Jets have taken this year from the media. Goddamn I want it to be the latter.
I don't think he will be on pace for 12 turnovers per game in the regular season though- you can't really extrapolate one quarter of one pre-season game and say that that's how a QB will be all season long. Geno was playing while he was hurt - before his ankle injury he was doing pretty well in training camp, and then struggled a LOT starting immediately after the injury. Now that he's had time to heal up, he should be a lot better. Also, Morningwood has reportedly been incorporating a lot of shotgun and pistol plays into his game plan with Geno, so I think he will be more effective with that since it's what he ran in college. With two safeties in the pre-season, I think the Jets will have worked on that a lot to hopefully have better performance operating out of their own end zone. I think they will be more conservative in that situation and mostly run it up the middle to get breathing room, and pass on the third down, and be willing to go 3 and out rather than trying to force a play and risking a safety. Although Geno seems pretty raw, he has shown that he can make throws, and I think he can be pretty accurate. If he challenges Revis the game will get ugly for the Jets, but I think the game plan will involve more throws to Kerley and Winslow, and whichever of Holmes, Hill and Spadola Revis isn't covering. Hopefully that's why Geno hasn't been studying a lot of tape on Revis... I'm sure they would insist that Geno do that if they were planning at all on challenging him. I still think the Jets' defense will give Freeman a lot of trouble, hopefully generate a few turnovers, and if it's able to do that then that this will be a very winnable game for the Jets.
if anyone looks at our roster and schedule and sees more than 5 wins I wanna know what the bloody hell you're smoking
Lighten up, Stannis. Buffalo sucks (x2), Tennessee, Oakland, Carolina, Cleveland, and I'd argue Miami are all crappy. That's 8. I also said the same thing last year at 6-7, though ("Tennessee, San Diego, and Buffalo all stink, we could run the table hurr hurr!").
I am worried you guys might be in the Teddy Bridgewater lottery. I prefer the Jets win like 6-7 games, with the Bills...lol
So, do you think the Jets are in the Broncos' stratosphere? The Jets aren't even in the Ravens' stratosphere. Not even trolling... homers need to wake up bc this season won't hurt as much with lowered expectations.
Flawed logic. yes those teams may or may not be crappy...the question is are the more or less crappy than the Jets? However, I think Buffalo is being severly underrated.
Agreed! We don't have one single person on the roster worth being on a fantasy team. On defense we might have two depending on the league. This is a far cry from years past and the blame rests on the HC and GM.
Getting pumped now...watched a great Manning show and despite the majority of what brain I have left screaming "disaster"....I am blindly and defiantly optimistic ...so bring on 6pm UK Sun( 1PM et for the rest of you!) ....my beers /whisky / wings will be ready for some Jets football!! Wish I could be there....
This is not a good team on paper but we can all agree that the offense should be better with a new OC and the defense WILL be better with Ryan calling the plays. Predicting 8-8 isn't that far from reality.
I guess purely from an entertainment stance, 8-8 would feel good. But for a team that still needs a good amount of work, that wouldn't be good. 8-8 is football purgatory. You're smack in the middle of the pack. No high pick, no playoffs. It's no man's land. When push comes to shove, I'd probably err with my heart and say 8-8 would be kind of nice. But my head would say that's a terrible outcome with future in mind. But hey, maybe that would mean Geno plays well, the defense is stout as self-advertised, and the Jets wouldn't be as lean as I think they'll be.
I'm long past the time when I had any expectations regarding this team. I go into every season looking at the roster, trends and the schedule. Then I just wait until roughly week 4 to make any prediction on the season. Whatever I get from this team is all upside unless they completely fall apart due to injury or implosion or both. I do admire all the "Blue Skies" fans that make the super optmistic projections. Must be nice to dream while being wide awake.
Funny you say that, but the Jets DID overcome it and did win! So if a QB throws 3 ints in a quarter it means he will throw 3 every quarter? What kind of logic is that? You can't judge him off one game against a really tough D. Plus you lied. He threw 3 INTS in the first HALF. 2 in the first quarter and 1 in the 2nd and ZERO in the 3rd quarter.
