They might bring him back after tonight when his salary isn't guaranteed and then cut him when Goodson returns in 4 weeks.
If they sign him it would probably be for the second game. This way they don't have to guarantee his contract. Most vets who get signed after being cut end up signing up after the first game. Not sure why they don't do that with Brady Quinn. I just wonder if they won't consider cutting Brady this week and then re-signing him for week 2.
I was sorry to see the Pats drop him. He can show the young guys how a pro carries himself. With the young RB and WR groups in NE, I though this might be important? Jets are similar, though Ivory and the suspended guy are vets already...
Heh. Ivory has been sitting in a high chair for years on the depth chart and I think Goodson needs a bib. I'm not so sure that a specific unit on the team requires a veteran, since that kind of thing gets handled on the team level. "Vets" and "leaders" are rarely the same thing in the NFL.
Totally agree about cutting Quinn. Don't need him. Esp on Sunday. If they feel they need another Qb in the future then sign either him or someone else after this weekend so you don't have to guarantee his money. If not it looks like they're serious about him as a potential on the field player this season so they want him at Florham Park to learn the offense. This present Jets regime is even more secretive than Eric Mangini was.
We are assholes. Should have found a way to hold him here even after the leg injury and even though he never signed a contract. His talent was once in a lifetime. No one returns KOs like he does. No one.
No no, don't put words in my mouth. I'm just saying I don't think he is worth the add because by the time we are truly contending, he won't be much, if any of an asset. I obviously think we should try to improve the team at any given chance, but I don't see the point in adding players on their last leg.
Kyle Wilson returning kicks is an absolute disaster. He is horrible. Clyde Gates seems solid, but I dont trust him to last all 16 games. Washington would be an excellent addition for STs and could also provide assurance for a receiving back if Goodson doesnt work out.
I was one of the vocal and angry few who thought that when he was still here...I couldn't believe how quickly people can crap on a player on their own team.. Kyle Wilson doing ANYTHING is a fukin disaster..
If they do sign him, I think it will only be untill Goodson gets back from his suspension.. I can't see them keeping him on the team if he is only returning Kicks... They are not going to waste a spot on him when Goodson,Gates,Wilson,Kerley and Cro in emergency situations, can all get the job done.
Cant do anything with Leon until after the first game when all contracts become official for the year. Then if the Jets are interested in Leon we do not have to pickup his contract. Sign him to a min contract if he could help and lets see. Always thought he did a good job for us, but he is up in age now.
They probably want a veteran presence for game 1, just to be safe. The only reason we have 4 QBs is because of the Sanchez injury. If Geno goes down in game 1, we'll likely see Quinn over Simms. It's a smart precaution. Otherwise if some fluke happens and Geno & Simms both go down, we're screwed and have no QB. Yeah, it's unlikely, but it does happen so you have to play on the side of caution. With McKnight gone, I'd really like them to sign back Leon, even if it's just temporary. We're gonna need all the help we can get in these first few games while people get healthy/ back from suspension. I never liked the way the Jets just threw him in the garbage after the injury. He was looking very promising that year before it happened. Sure it's easy to say, "just wait until after game 1", but in reality these signings aren't going to wreck the salary cap and we need the help in game 1, so it is what it is.
I'd feel a whole lot better about kick returns with Leon. Gates and Wilson shouldn't be returning kicks, and who knows how long Goodson will take for game shape. Same thing regarding 3rd down RB depth. We also have very little veteran influence on ST or O. Sign him!!
Patriots just resigned him BEFORE the first game, which means he is getting paid for the full season. That would seem to imply he'll be with them for the year now.
