Revis doesn't know Marty's offense. He doesn't know Geno at QB either or Ivory at RB, etc. He may know Holmes/Hill/Kerley's tendencies, but how can Bucs players really remember on a play by play basis? Too tough. As for Rex's defense, again it is pretty new too and unpredictable. I don't think Revis saying anything will change what happens on game day either way.
I don't. I'm sure he is also teaching his teammates how to re negotiate and hold people hostage in the middle of a contact. Their time will come
Very true, not to mention that Rex knows Revis better than Revis knows The team. You can bet they will game plan with Revis tendencies in mind. I would have Hill run his ass off in Revis side and really est his hammy.
omg they traade revis and now he is sharing secrets. woody should sell the team after he fires rex, idzick, cuts everyone and sues revis for divulging info. I demand a press conference!
That's fine and all, but when it comes down to Jets vs. Revis, who do you choose? Do you actually want Revis to get an interception or a pick six next week?
You are right here. It never really matters. The only thing he can hope to share are tendencies and that is precisely what game film is intended to reveal. Maybe a "special" hand signal or two but you still have to go out and execute. This is no big deal. Even LESS of a deal considering how many new faces there are.
He may burn Revis, but he'll just end up dropping the pass. True, but at the same time think about how many players switch teams often throughout off-seasons, it's not like non of them have any "secrets" about their previous team. It's not like Antwan Barnes can't do the same thing of what you said for the Jets about the Chargers, or Willie Colon the Steelers, Landry the Jaguars, Ivory the Saints, Goodson the Raiders, etc. While there were plenty of Jets free agents that are on other teams that can tell their teams the exact same things Revis is telling the Bucs. And things like offensive and defensive player traits are often all things you can look for in the tape anyways, a big reason why watching the tape to prepare each week is crucially important.
We have a new QB, new running backs, new tight ends. What can he possibly give away? Holmes I believe is good enough where it doesn't matter what Revis says, and Revis only went against Hill when he was an incredibly raw rookie. He's got nothing. As far as defense goes, Rex is smarter than that. This can also be used against Revis, if Rex knows what Revis is saying he can stay one step ahead of him. In a sense it could come back to hurt the Bucs. Either way it probably won't affect the game that much.
F Revis. It will only be a matter of time before his ego gets in the way again and he holds out for Tampa as well.
For the most part, you are correct. Except we are talking about one of the smartest defenders in the league. Revis has studied his entire defense, not just the plays that affect his own position. I know people will want to downplay this to make themselves feel better, but it's been pretty common knowledge around here for years that Revis is a voracious film student and does it never to be caught off guard. Just getting a guy like Barnes or Colon or Landry isn't comparable to getting input from a guy like Revis. He is as much a mental player as a physical one if not more. It's what makes him so dangerous. What we have to hope is that the Bucs aren't good enough to take advantage of what he gives them.
Has it crossed any minds that Rex has a bit of an inside scoop on Revis's tendencies as well? Everybody knows how great he is, but Rex may perhaps have the best idea out of anyone in the league.
These are great points. I'd just be shocked if Rex goes about this game in a business as usual manner, allowing Revis' insight to truly matter.
Which offensive players Byz? Hill, and Holmes missed 20 odd games last year. Howard was new, while Revis was out. The Guards are new. Smith is starting, bc of Sanchez injury. MM wasnt here. Revis knows shit about the offense. He can tell defensive tendencies, however, nthe focus of the defense has changed.
Jon Gruden in the Super Bowl being the most egregious example of it working. But yeah I don't think even Rex is stupid enough to pull a Callahan and not make adjustments. And like others have said the offense itself changed anyway.
Yup. 9 routes and POCO all day long. Thats one thing Smith is good at. Look forthis guy, or dump it off. In WVa it was Steadman and Austin. Put Kerley and Hill in some over under combo, with a clear out for Powell, Revis has to make every play. Hill needs to make 2
Transcript of the actual conversation between Tampa OC and Revis: Tampa OC: Revis, this is a play we'd like to run against Rex. What you think? Revis: Won't work...Rex will see it coming from a mile away. He'll drop a Safety underneath to kill the pass play and blitz 3-4 really big guys. Freeman will get killed. Rex is probably hopping you do run it. Tampa OC: "Hmmm, OK, what about this?" Revis: "Nope, a team tried that last season and they lost their top WR for the year" Tampa OC: "Damn. THIS?" Revis: "Nope, will never work, will probably lose 5 yards. Rex always had us prepared for that". Tampa OC: "THIS????" Revis: "Nope, big mistake". Tampa OC: "THIS, THIS, or THIS?????" Revis: "No, No, and are you trying to get Freeman killed?". Tampa OC: "So there's not one single play we can run against the jets????". Revis: "Not if you wanna keep your job. Besides, you don't pay me enough to figure out how to beat Rex.Good Luck! Gotta go, gotta drop some dough in the bank.
