http://thejetsblog.com/opinion/case-of-the-mondays-idzik-planning-for-the-future/ I wanted to share this and say this is the most realistic article and view I've read all preseason. It points to enjoying the highs and understanding the lows. There is food for thought regarding the direction the team is going and why. It is not overly optimistic but does not overly criticize. A more complete painted picture that does not sway in either direction.
I agree with many of the points that he made but I also disagree with the tone of the overall article. He seems to be saying that the Jets are going to be 8-8 at best this year, it's a foregone conclusion that Rex is gone next season, and that Idzik wanted this season to be a struggle so that he somehow then has the leverage to put his stamp on the team (presumably because Ryan would then be gone and he could bring in his "own guy")? I don't know if I buy all that, but the basic premise that Idzik seems to be infusing youth and competition into a roster that was getting old and stale is certainly true. I just don't get why this guy seems to be so sure of what's going to happen come 2014.
This is a pretty good article, though I can't accept that Rex is already packing his bags. I think he's fighting for his job right now, and I think Black Friday will only come if the Jets don't show potential this year. I can see Rex keeping his job with a 7-9 season.
Rex has one losing season: 6-10 with WR1, WR2, TE1 and Revis out for most of the season, garbage at QB, garbage at OC and garbage at OT and old slow linebackers. It's just silly to count him out.
I really would like Rex to be a part of this rebuild. I think you need consistency with your head coaches. If he is able to win 9 games with THIS team this year I'd love to have him back. Most of that weighs on if Geno can play well and be comfortable in the system.
like most, I don't buy the premise that rex is dead man walking. I do agree that idzik is looking more to the future than the 2013 season. we could be well on our way if this years draft class pans out
I don't mind if Rex walks after this season. Idzik had better have a VERY good reason behind should that happen. Or it's his head rolling too.
very well said. i agree with your disagreement with those implications. rex will write his own story. if he can embrace what idzik is doing, there's a good chance he stays. at least, that's my hope. idzik would be dumb to let go a good mind and personality like rex.
I wouldn't say garbage at OT, just RT...Ferguson gave up 2 sacks, Howard 11. But this man killed it on the post. Woody interviewed many GMs, and let the top guys leave his facility without a contract because they didn't want Rex. Woody hired Idzik because Idzik was willing to have Rex as his coach. Idzik wasn't hired over the other top GMs just because he was willing to have Rex for 1 year....anyone who thinks Rex is gone even with a decent season in a rebuilding year are out of their minds.
I am personally rooting for Rex to keep his job unless there is a clear upgrade available. And I doubt there will be. You give RR complimentary football we've seen what he can do.
People need to stop giving Idzik so much credit, he hasnt done anything spectacular yet. Ill give him credit when the team is playing in late January, not in his first offseason.
I believe the GM made some good moves this offseason. OL , RB and WR have improved. The safety position is going to hurt us. Overall, we are in much better shape moving forward to 2014. They key will be Gino Smith, looks like we are gonna stick with him for the year. I have a feeling Sanchez is going to be cut, that's why Quinn was brought in, some veteran leadership to help Smith and Simms. I am caught in the middle, I want the Jets to have a good season but I want Rex gone. He's not a good head coach, he cant manage a game, use timeouts in-correctly and is reactionary with his decision making.
The proof will be in the pudding, but I think Idzik does deserve credit for shaking things up and cutting off a lot of dead weight. This off season has definitely had a different917-244-8493 feeling to it than the last few under Tanny, that's for sure. We'll have to wait a good year to see if it translates to a better outcome on the field...
Dave Caldwell... http://profootballtalk.nbcsports.co...-going-to-offer-caldwell-the-house-literally/ Tom Gamble, Tom Telesco... http://profootballtalk.nbcsports.com/2013/01/10/jets-g-m-search-keeps-expanding/ Tom Heckert declined the interview but it was speculated that was more due to our cap problems. I don't troll, I read many articles during the GM search and all pointed to GMs not wanting to have Rex.
