I don't see how that makes any sense, since (1) why would they be in a panic to shut him down, and (2) why would anyone care if they did anyway? This is not a Strasburg situation where the team's chances of winning the World Series are affected or something.

Apparently Hefner has decided to have Tommy John surgery, so he is likely gone until 2015. Parnell is also considering surgery to repair a herniated disc in his neck. Supposedly he could be back at full strength for spring training.

Looks like the positive vibes for the 2014 season are disappearing already.

Harvey... it was too good to be true. Mets can't catch a break.

media is blaming it on him throwing sliders too early in his career.

Byrd and Buck traded to Pittsburgh.

The Pirates already have Russell Martin.

Anyone know anything about this guy Herrera? Letting Byrd and Buck go makes perfect sense, but the key is who they get for them.

Seems interesting. He's a 19 year old putting up decent numbers at Single-A, which is encouraging.

A second baseman is a good thing, but presumably he's at least 3 years away. I hope the player to be named (who comes from the Pirates' 40 man roster) is a useful player who is major league-ready.

Still hard to see how this team is going to score runs next year unless Wilpon is willing to open the checkbook for free agents.

Tuesday was Marlon Byrd t-shirt day at Citi Field.

As for the trade, the PTBNL better be a decent prospect. Herrera for Byrd/Buck is hardly fair.

Vic Black is being reported as the PTBNL.

Pirates would have to put him through waivers. If another team claims him (and why wouldn't a team claim him?), the Pirates would have to pull him back and send him to the Mets after the season.

Byrd's first game with the Pirates, he bats cleanup and hits a three run homer.

What a waste Daisuke has been (not that that is actually much of a surprise). Not only does he stink, but he can't get out of the 5th inning anyway, so he's not even an innings eater.

Byrd was one of the few bright spots for the Mets this year, not surprised if he has a good rest of the season now playing for a playoff team.

Just wanted to pass on and it doesn't really mean much but the Mets AAA affiliate in Las Vegas won their division dethroning Sacramento who have won it like 7 years in a row. It's the 1st time the 51s have made the playoffs in 11 years.

Considering all the call ups I think it's safe to say who our next manager will be. At the present time he will be managing Las Vegas in the playoffs.

Hey, why should anyone expect a bullpen to hold a 5-2 lead in the 7th inning?
