5 guys I'm sorry to see cut but I think all 5 will either be picked up by other teams or on the Jets Practice squad. Zach Rogers. Rontez Miles Mike Edwards Troy Davis Chris Pantale.
I'm a fairly smart guy but I can't understand why we kept Harrel? I really can't make sense of it. If your going to keep 4 QBs, why not keep Gmac instead? ...or Someone from another position even. I can't make one possible conclusion from that. I've never seen Harrell play, does he have potential?
1) Mark Sanchez is hurt worse than the organization is letting on.(most probable.) 2) Teams have inquired about Sanchez and the Jets are considering a trade when he's healthy (not nearly as likely). 3) The Jets wanted a little more time to evaluate Harrel. I can't speak for him but I know one of my friends who's a Major packer's fan and truly knows their football was very upset the Packers cut Harrel, well as upset as anyone gets over the cutting of a back up QB anyways. 4) a combination of the above, most likely the Jets still aren't sure of Sanchez's time table for recovery and don't want to go in to the season with 2 healthy QB's neither of whom have ever taken a regular season NFL snap.
I'm happy to roll with this 53. With he choices made, I would guess that Holmes will be ready to Go week 1. Maybe we PUP Sanchez and bring back one of the cut guys after week 1. Gives Geno 6 games with no media pressure to bring Sanhez in.
Gmac appears to be going to IR once he clears waivers as he was designated as waived/injured. With Gmac inured they needed a QB who can play if Geno goes down. Harrel will likely compete with Simms to be Genos backup if he goes down in the first few games. It would not be to surprising if Harrel moves into the number 2 role.
I don't think it would be a good idea to PUP Sanchez; he should be available as a choice if Smith plays terribly. I think it would be bad for Smith if he was just not ready for NFL football yet was made to play anyway, I don't think that'd help him learn and it would also tank the season. If Smith really struggles, the media is going to be clamoring for Simms to start. And the fans will be too.
I am really shocked we cut Obamanu. A WCO with only 4 healthy WR's doesn't add up, not to mention his ST contributions. Hope Rontez Miles and Zach Rogers find their way to the PS. Most alarming is 9 OL, with half of them being extremely shaky. Unless Colon has been practicing at backup OT, they better pick one up off waivers as a top priority. Aboushi should not be anywhere but the PS, and Campbell should prob be PS at most as well.
I was thinking the same thing. We need more WRs and Obomanu looked decent to me. Maybe going to go after some other cut WRs.
Something has to be up with the QB situation with keeping 4 QB's. Either Sanchez is getting IR'd/Pupped or there is a potential trade in the works for him or Simms. I never thought Sancho was worth a shit in a trade but maybe I'm wrong. Either way the Harrell over SackElroy is curious, unless SackElroy winds up on IR.
If that's the case, I'd be surprised if Oday Aboushi is a long term fixture here. The guy's so lead-footed.
Maybe they're reluctant to give up on a 5th round pick already. The potential trade talk is actually interesting. Probably won't happen but it's fun to speculate.
