Bell is tough, a good backup, but boy he whiffed on a bunch of blocks last night, he looked like Jason Smith at running back
Running back is not the position it used to be in the NFL. There are likely only 5-6 impact runners in the league today(1 in the AFC East) & pretty much all of them are only good for about 8 games a year. The position is more about having a variety of capable runners w/ different skillsets. You then mix & match based on situations/health. That philosophy in mind, Jets aren't in bad shape. The overall talent is average & there are no world beaters..but they have a lot of different style runners who are at least average. This will come down more to the OL.
Preseason stats are meaningless, but I do think the offense has a chance to be fairly decent, if everything comes together.
Goodson is a career backup who has failed to stick with two teams already. He almost immediately put his career in jeopardy upon finally being given a real shot by the Jets. He's a flyer at this point, nothing more.
I can understand being worried about OL/Ducasse..but I don't think his run blocking should be included. Even at his worst...he's a very powerful plowing ahead type of drive blocker. Colon is also a good "sledder". If the jets struggle w/ run blocking it will likely be the tackles
So because some national writer wrote an article that aligned with you yet we have not taken one regular season snap, you are going to pat yourself on the back? Just wait a couple of games before congratulating yourself. This offense as a whole will be so much better then last year and really that's all that matters. How many points do we average per game, how we get it, who cares. And for once, Jim Kelly is not telling everyone how great the Bills will be. Is that due to his sickness from cancer or seeing your team play and your new college coach?
Wow so the Saints didn't hand us gold? Amazing, only the Jets were dumb enough to give up what they did for an oft injured, lazy, RB fourth on the Saints depth chart.
Powell + Ivory + Bell (Goodson week 5) can be a decent unit. Ducasse has been a good run blocker. I'm not that worried.
One thing people aren't considering is we haven't seen Morningweg's M.O. w/ these RBS yet. He's all about getting RBs out in space w/ short passes & zone read type runs. This is no longer gonna be a Parcells "between the tackles" type running attack. Philly was average to below average at straight ahead running for years. It's about attacking the edges & getting guys in space.Marty hasn't shown alot of that stuff just yet. Ivory & Goodson are guys you can use in space. Powell will be the pass pro/between the tackles type. He's nothing special but is at least adequate in that role.Ivory will show his worth once they started playing around w/ him alittle more..we'll see w/ Goodson.Nobody denies his talent but he has never stepped up & been anything but a 3rd stringer.
you my friend are a clown. Please lose your Jets gear and turn into a Bills fan. I cant stand "fans" like you. Doom and gloom
Powell has been a nice surprise. He looks very solid. Ivory has not looked nearly as good but I think he'll come around. The main issue I have with him is his running style. He's a high runner and every time he's hit he looks like he's going to get injured. It's no surprise as to why he has not played a full season since high school. The guy does not protect his body at all when he runs.
The 4th string Saints running back was NOT worth our 4th round draft pick.. another bone head Idzik/Bradway/Ryan move.
So Ducasse isn't garbage? And our backs aren't terrible? Instead of being a whiny cunt offended by everything, try actually getting involved in the discussion? Do you just run around trying to police the boards? Or do you ever actually offer a sports related opinion related to the topic at hand?
Calling our players terrible isn't a discussion. It's an emotional rant. Ducasse has been decent in run blocking but not so great in pass protection. I see potential in our backs. To you, everyone just sucks and will fail. Okay terrific.
