It's kinda laughable really that anyone's using PRESEASON stats to compare the offenses. As the immortal Allen Iverson once said, we're talking about practice.
Come on, man, I know you are an enthusiastic fan, but do you really think that either Powell, Ivory or Goodson are 30 carry a game backs? Holmes is hurt, and the other guys have not shown that they are big time recievers. Cro is the one defensive back. Other then him they have rookies and so-so (at least thus far) players. And the linebackers and O-line are a BIG problem. And the QB situation is self-evident. Optimism is cool, but you have to tinge it with reality sometimes
there is absolutely no evidence that we are better than last year. you hope the moves we made make us better than last year, but to declare it as a fact is ridiculous. from what I have seen of this team in the pre-season, 3-13 is completely possible. this team is deficient in so many areas that the culmination of small issues can easily make his team absolutely garbage.
How exactly are games against Tampa Bay, at Carolina, and vs Pittsburgh not considered underdog matchups for the NYJ? I don't think we're predestined to lose these games, per se, but the level of confidence in fans here of the Jets' ability to compete in all three of these games is laughable IMO.
Agreed. The Jets failed to upgrade WR, downgraded at RB, downgraded at S, slightly upgraded at DL pending the success of Richardson, didn't upgrade at TE (especially for blocking), failed to upgrade a weak LB core especially following Coples' injury, remained stagnant at FB, downgraded the O-Line with the loss of Moore (not saying he was replaceable or should've been brought back, but no one can argue the O-Line didn't decline from last year to this year), failed to add depth to an extremely shallow depth chart, and once again failed to bring in a backup who can actually compete with one of the league's worst QB's (which shouldn't take much effort or skill).
Amazed after reading the posts in this thread. I understand how most people predict 3-13 to 6-10....these people don't watch the Jets, they base their opinion on only the bad highlights that ESPN loves to replay constantly, and on the opinions of other uninformed people. We were 6-10 last year, and have an easier schedule: Offense: Quarterback: Whoever plays, can't play worse than last year. Running back: Ivory and Goodson will be far better than 3.8 ypg Greene. Wide Receivers: Hill, Kerley, Gates are all young, and will all be better than last year. We will have Holmes back this year. Tight End: Keller was injured all year. Winslow and an improved/young Cumberland is an upgrade. Offensive Line: Howard is young, and is now more experienced. If Colon can stay healthy, he and Vlad will greatly improve the run blocking of this line compared to 2012. Jury is still out on Vlad. Coordinator: Sparano was a joke. Anyone who has watched the preseason must love the fact that we finally resemble an NFL offense. We're scoring Touchdowns.... Defense: D-Line. Wilkerson and Ellis are both young and should have improved. Richardson for Coples is a wash, but I do believe Richardson will make more of an impact as a rookie. Linebackers: More speed and pass rushing ability. Scott and Thomas were too old/slow. Add Barnes, Coples, and an improving/young Demario Davis. Corners: Milliner/Cromartie > Wilson/Cromartie Safeties: This is the one spot where we definitely regressed. Landy is decent. Coordinator: Rex will be calling the plays again. Last time he did that we had the #1 and #3 defense. 10-6 season. Rex signs an extension going above 500 in a rebuilding year. If Rex gets canned, we know that he was only kept because Woody is too cheap to buy him out, and doesn't care about making this a winning franchise.
I get your point, but I don't like this argument because of certain factors: 1) The schedule changes year to year. We aren't playing the same teams in the same order as last year when we went 6-10. 2) We are playing different caliber teams than last year, for better or for worse. So if we were playing the 2012-2013 schedule again against the same team/same players, I would agree that this is a good points. But with so many changes, we could be better this year than last year and go 5-11
Team was top 10 on offense in most categories, preseason. As opposed to 32, across the board last preseason. The OC matters. Everyone is judging the offense under last years conditions. Just a fact, and Its the same rap Sanchez gets. His stats in the Lions game were excellent, even with the pick six. 90 qbr The next week he put up 27 in Detroit. Between those two, if you get that all season, with an Average Jets defense it will be hard for this team to LOSE games. The Dline, goes along way toward eveni g out the LB situation, but at any rate, tue LBers are faster than last uear. Milliner pushes Wilson inside, thats an improvement. And FWIW. They won SIX....with Shit for offense. And this squad is better, and the OCmakes all the difference in the world. Thats not optimism. Thats mildly observant.
The NFC Sourh gets waaaaayy to much respect. Carolina was middle of the pack last uear O&D. Not a Tampa Fan. N.O. And Atl, are the real issues. Pittsburgh isnt going to be good, And look at the first 4 games. NE is the real team there. Sanchez is better against TB,Buff,Tenn, Than Feeeman,Buff,Locker will be against Rex.
^pitt is always good, I think cam could hurt us too. I fully expect a win at home week 1. Tightly contested, but a win none the less.
excuse my language but fk peter king, espn, and any other media bashing the jets and calling us the worst franchise ever, circus, blah blah blah...this team does have some talent on both side of the ball. i still believe in rex and with MM this offense can be a little above average. i have bet two separate people that jets will 10+ wins to which i was laughed at but call it the green kool aid but w/ this team n schedule it is very possible.
this is just optimism, which isn't bad but don't pretend as if it is reasonable speculation. there is nothing to defend the argument that the Jets will be better than last year, or dispute that they will be worse. maybe they can't be worse, but that doesn't equate to being better. and what we have seen in the pre-season, the QB position doesn't look to be any better this year, so that still equates to poor QB play for the Jets. and poor QB play is a death knell in the NFL. maybe Rex got away with it for one season without the team being absolute garbage, but the odds are that he can again? probably not great. based on what? two unproven and injury prone backs does not equate to some hard-charging corp. being young does not equate to naturally improving the following year. Let us find out if Winslow can make it through a few games before declaring him an upgrade. Cumberland is unproven and a question mark, not an upgrade. jury is still out on the entire line except Mangold and Ferguson. there is no way you can look at this line and believe they are better than last year without any game experience to prove it. can the upgrade at coordinator make up for the complete lack of proven ability on the offense? we will see. the D doesn't need to be broken down. but overall we don't have a proven pass rush, the D Line is young and suspect and we lost our best safety. until proven otherwise the D isn't any better than last year, and are still deficient in the areas that long term make bad defenses -- lack of pass rush and QB pressure. couple that with an extremely suspect secondary, and you have the makings for a defense in decline, not improvement. the roster sucks, and Rex shouldn't be penalized if he can't perform miracles with this bunch. I am an optimist, so I will watch every game with the hope that the Jets play better than they have shown previously and that every game is the game they put it together. I am not rooting for or expecting 3 wins, but it is certainly an extremely realistic outcome based on the personnel.
The Jets will not win more five games this year. The offense is brutal. The defense will keep them in a lot of games this year. If Ryan can get five wins with this squad, RESIGN him!!!
I don't know who Mr Valentine is, but I will be shocked of this team wins 10 games this year. The most I see is 7. The worst I see is 4.
Oh just stop with the QBR nonsense. even at 90 for 1 game he doesn't even crack the top 10 or 15 QB's with QBR's OVER 100 for the entire pre-season. QBR, as I've pointed out dozens of times, is a horrible stat. But Trying to use it in pre-season on 1 game to show "excellence" when there are nearly a dozen QB's with roughly equal throws who are OVER 100 for the season just takes any wind out of your argument at all.
Head Coach: Rex Ryan .500+(barely but still top ranks of the Jets History) QB: Sanchez (Exact same story) Defense will be dominate at times No Tony Sparano (3-4 wins auto because of his departure ) Younger and more promising all around because they are unknowns you can't be such a pessimist be a realist but this teams offense cannot be much worse, And The D Will Be There let it play out before everyone is negative we should all be questioning not assuming Wr's Are getting separation + are young and Spadola looks like he could be solid!( we need a GEM! Cherbet 2.0! )
