That's the most absurd and inane statement I have read on this board ...no wonder I don't even bother with reading this thread anymore. Got any names or links please so I can laugh at the 'expert(s)' that had the brains to say this?
That is ridiculous. Anybody who thought we'd be in contention at all is delusional. But Sanchez should have been sat long before he was. It would have saved this team a lot of turmoil and a lot of embarrassment.
That's the spirit! good job, stay w/ attempting jokes(though this wasn't one of your best ones) and allow us folks that know the game to discuss football:grin:
Sometimes I wonder if people actually watch the games and how they actually unfold. The same doom and gloomers were spouting the same crap last year and then they act suprised. Brad was all over the linebackers last year this year Sanchez. Injuries buried the Jets last year with healthy dose of a bad OC yet the Jets were still contention. Fans only remember what they want. Like Sanchez threw for over 300 yds in the Pats game and I think had Qb rating in the 90's. Because the butt fumble got so much attention it ruined Sanchez for the rest of the year. He played awful in AZ and awful in TN but we won AZ and still could have won TN but make no mistake the play calling and route running were down right bad in both of those games. People say give Tebow a chance he had his chance in that game and was worse than Mark. There are no more excuses Mark has not had five season he had four two of them lead us to the AFCC with some clutch performances in the playoffs. He was progressing and still playing decent with a depleted receiving corp. He fumbles a lot that needs to change he looks better this preseason. He looked broken mentally after the AZ and TN game he does not look that way now. Lets dump him instead of seeing what he can do with a proper OC and semi healthy receiving core. Nope beieve the media that he is the worst QB in the league and the jets are the worst team in the league. Mark had a very good preseason how has Flacco and Eli done this preseason. As ignorant fans goes they dont understand that preseason they are evaluating not just the qb and run plays to evaluate those players. as soon as Sanchez does something well you have jokers breaking down plays that have no clue what they are talking about and as predictable pulling up the tn and az game. Geno played bad but mark played worse in AZ and TN. If that is the case why are they having a competition? Mark beat out Geno hands down this preseason that is what counts or not. The competition was a joke if Geno starts with a healthy Sanchez. Sanchez beat him out period.
I don't know if I would go as far as to say that Sanchez "hands down" beat Geno. I mean he had a better completion rate (~7% better) and one more TD but he had the same number of turnovers (three) including a pick six and a red zone interception...not to mention his horrible miss free TD to Gates followed by his terrible clock management costing us at least three. Given Geno's safety wasn't really a great moment either. Not to mention that Sanchez played the majority of his snaps against the Jags including their 2nd and 3rd string players whereas Geno played a lot against a superior Giants team. Oh, and the fact that Geno is a rookie playing his first NFL action ever and Sanchez is supposed to be a well prepared veteran. I'm not so sure that if you switched the games around and gave Geno time against the Jags and Sanchez times against the Giants that those numbers don't start to swing more to Geno's side. I'm by no means a Geno fan (didn't even want to draft him) and do think Sanchez should start the season but to say that Sanchez hands down beat Geno is a little lopsided viewing of it. Even if you were looking at two rookies playing this exact same way it could go either way, let alone a rookie vs a veteran.
I'm pretty sure the Revis Holdout thread was bigger. Granted it was broken up into two parts since the forum software at the time could not support threads with more than 10,000 posts (I am guessing since I have no mod knowledge) But that was 2 parts and 18k posts if my recall is correct. (too busy/lazy to look up)
If you actually watched the Jets last season and didn't think Sanchez was irrefutably horrible . . . I'm not sure there is any reason to take any of your comments regarding Sanchez's past and present performances seriously.
Bottom line is, whether or not Sanchez beat out Gino preseason, RIGHT NOW, he's still gives the Jets the best chance to win a football game , period. He has the experience and the the talent to do it....he just needs the right offensive schemes to work with and a good O-coordinator to lead him to make the right decisions. If Rex and the Jets decide to play Gino for the season...it's going to be a long one....2-14 at best - many kids here think experience is something you have when u first pee the 1st day your diapers are removed. What makes me laugh here are the illogical arguments that Rex will be fired if they fail to have a respectable season , or what ever the case....so Rex putting Gino in will certainly make that more of a reality. Now, is Rex the type to put his own head on the chopping block and commit/gamble with an unproven 2nd round 'stock dropping' rookie? Somehow, I don't think he's that much of a masochist.
I also was looking forward to seeing if Sanchez could turn it around under a new OC and system. Last night I had a 5 minute chat with a quarterback who is more than a little familiar with the WCO. What he told me didn't exactly bode well for Sanchez to improve if he gets the opportunity to start. Now, that's his opinion, but it's one that I'd tend to think is a bit more valid than most. Like Hobbes has stated repeatedly...system matters. And what that qb said to me reinforces my retort to Hobbes...execution matters more. btw...he also said that putting Mark under center in the Giants game was a stupid decision.
I'd be interested in knowing then what present Jet QB is fit for the system that is now in place? I'm not 100% on Sanchez with it but even less so for 'happy feet' Gino. In the WCO, he who hesitates is loss. Which makes a good case for Simms being better suited, perhaps.
The conversation never got that far. It was focused predominately on whether Sanchez has the tools to succeed in the system that MM runs. Maybe Simms is "the One". I certainly haven't seen enough of him to tender an opinion, and I'm better at cracking jokes anyway. He sure looks to have the arm to make some of the tougher throws. Is his head up to the same level? I don't know.
No I did not but I don't listen the media I watch the games. I think Mark had a few great games a few ok games and few miserably bad games. He did not become an interception machine util the last few games. I thought he played well in Buffalo, Miami, first half Steelers, Both NE games, Rams, Colts and Jacksonville. I thought he looked mentally shot and frustrated against TN and AZ. Then again he was throwing to guys off the street by then and pressed way to hard. Sparano did him no favors in that TN game. I have hope with a semi healthy receiving corp and a competent OC he will be a top half of the league QB. He has proven he can win in this league. Lets see if the NY fans and media did not ruin him. I keep seeing articles with his teammates defending him and I am impressed how he has handled the media and Fans like Frenbar applauding his injury. I do not think any other QB in the league gets as much scrutiny as Mark yet the fans hate him mind boggling. I watched the preseason games to see if he had the mental aptitude to bounce back and after that pick 6 I was worried even more. How he responded after the pick 6 has me encouraged that he can make the turn around and play well in this offense. He throws look good and accurate he is putting balls in places that only very good Qbs make and most importantly he has not fumbled when sacked. I think our defense is good but seems to struggle against the hurry up. Mark and the offense will score points this year no doubt. That is why I have high hopes for this team. I think this team is cusp playoff team and with a few breaks you never know. I think NE, Baltimore and Pitt have gotten worse this year and buffalo has a rookie QB. The dolphins are in the same place as the Jets. The Jets stay healthy they are going to the playoffs.
cval: I don't think anyone would argue we had an all star cast for Sanchez to play alongside and that's a fair argument. The thing is though that regardless of how crappy your WRs are that doesn't forgive poor decision making. Throwing into double or triple coverage? Taking a sack instead of throwing it at someone's feet? A complete inability to complete a screen pass? Obviously I could go on and on. Would Sanchez have played better with a better cast around him? Sure. Would the best QBs in the league have played worse with the same cast as Sanchez? Probably. But would those other QBs have played as bad as Sanchez? I doubt it. Honestly, in my heart I hope you are right. I hope we're a playoff bound team and that Sanchez is a bonafide starter and has been held back with his OC and the talent around him and unleashes his abilities this year and we're all shocked and excited. But in my head I am 100% convinced that won't happen. I guess we'll see.
Sanchez's inability to throw short pass will only become magnified, since WCO is very high on dump offs and check downs. WCO basically emphasizes that completed 3 yard forward pass is better than incomplete 40 yard downfield throw. WCO does not tolerate negative plays - and Sanchez is all about creating negative plays in various, rather curious and yet creative ways.
I mostly agree but I'd further clarify your comments about the short pass. It's not that he's unable to throw the short pass, it's that he is too inconsistent with his accuracy on short passes and the WCO relies heavily on precision short passes that lend themselves to YAC. Completing short passes that cause the receiver to slow down, stop or fall down aren't conducive to an effective WCO even if it results in a higher completion percentage. The idea is to create space horizontally with precision and allow your play makers to exploit that space.
Zach, You have been funny lately playing both sides I get a laugh out of it. You are correct but I think Mark will fix not being able to throw a screen. Not really the toughest pass in the world to learn.
What makes you believe he'll suddenly understand how to do something he's never been able to do with any sort of consistency?
