Gov Christie is fat, very fat. The problem isn't that the media are childish and unprofessional in regards to Christie's personal appearance, it's that they are in the tank to the democrats so much that they'll never admit Christie could drop a deuce that is smarter and more competent than Barack Obama. As to the Jets, they have history to battle with but it's nothing a Super Bowl trophy wouldn't solve.
http://www.nj.com/times-sports/index.ssf/2013/08/eckel_jets_are_looking_like_on.html Check out what this dipshit from philly has to say. Why there is a link to this garbage on tgg is beyond me. Lets start with the title "Jets are looking like on hot mess".Cant even spell the title correctly. Goes on to call the jets a circus. How fucking original. Later in the article "Keeping with what used to be the national pastime, I really like by midseason pick of a Tigers-Dodgers World Series". Another spelling error. Did this guy write this article on coke? "One thing I’m looking forward to this college season is watching South Carolina’s Jadeveon Clowney, who scouts are saying is the next Lawrence Taylor. He’s on tonight against North Carolina, if you can tear yourself away from the Eagles-Jets preseason game." OMG really ive never heard of this clowney guy ive only see see the highlight of him tackling that running back and his helmet coming off on espn 5000 fucking times. Also included in the article are thrilling stories about dropping his daughter off at college and how he used to go on cheese steak runs for his boss. Cant miss stuff.
Could be worse. Look at miami. The owner overpaid and put all his eggs in one basket this season thinking he was getting a new stadium like the marlins just to get rejected.
ooh the comments about the media are right up my alley. no doubt the majority of the national/local media is in bed with the current administration. me thinks the jets take a bit of a hit here not only because of their own misdoings but also because Woody is a conservative.
In the meantime, the more irresponsible elements in the media should be called out on their agenda-driven, piss-poor "yellow journalism." Now, who to take on this responsibility..... Imho, given your indefatigable argumentative spirit, not to mention your capacity to cite unassailable "stats" (within 'context' of course), I respectfully suggest Petrozzza confer upon you the title: "TGG Director of Media Relations" I'm half serious
That's not completely true ... this is far from a LAST RIDE type of season. Ellerbe, Wheeler, Wallace, Hartline all signed multi long term deals. Guys like Keller and Brent Grimes (who might be the best player on our defense this year) took 1 year deals coming off of injury. I don't blame them shooting down Ross' new stadium idea because look how well it worked out for the Marlins so far ... what would be the incentive for the taxpayers? In time, things will work out ... i hope.
You know,Turk....I kind of agree. But what is worse, is what will follow. When the Jets are winning, and they will this year... None of these jackoffs will admit they were wrong. And lets examine the facts as they lie right now, Last year... Sparano, not an OC. Keller,Holmes,Hill miss 30 games. Decimated offense. Revis out for season. Defense has too many old slow players. This year Miliner bumps Wilson to slot. Richardson, Overall younger faster defense. Morningwood, Rex's first legit OC. Two faster rbs brought in, powell coming on. Kerley with a good season on the outsode goes back to the slot, Hill is healthy, holmes will be, and the guys behind them are better than last uear. Last year, the Jets won 6, and somehow...they are worse. The media can just fucking blow me. I only take the time to rant, but there are at least a half dozen guys on this board alone, that would do a better job. How Jeff Capellini isnt in print is beyond me.
OP: Hang in there. Like many, many other posters have pointed out, the best thing that we can do is be consumer activists and send out clicks elsewhere. It's worth noting that the national media has picked up on this nonsense -- KO called out the ridiculousness of Daily News' NYJ coverage recently (which was discussed in another thread). I'd just like to emphasize Bradway's point: it's all about the money. And Vegas hasn't published it's over/under for the Jets yet. When it does, we'll see what the talking heads say then. And when we beat the Vegas line, well... let's just say it will be interesting.
if any media guy wants to debate me I will be happy to tear them down. Ellerbe is a half year wonder, I don't think you upgraded adding Ellerbe and Wheeler over the 2 guys you let go. We'll see if Wallace is satisfied w/ the new deal and if playing a/o an elite QB will affect him. Hartline is a nice complimentary WR but all 4 are probably overpaid. I think your D will be better b/c of the pass rush and Grimes, the O has to be better w/ all the new weapons but it will come down to the OL, the QB and the run game which right now are very questionable.
The Jets are good for headlines. If they really cared about focusing on teams that have failed to do much in the last 15 years they can easily look to the Bills, Dolphins, Raiders, Browns, Cowboys (always stacked yet a yearly disaster), Bengals (young talent but haven't done anything yet), Jags, Panthers. Jets just make for better news. Hell the Giants win a super bowl and miss the playoffs -- twice. This pre-season Manning has been one of the worst QBs in football. Yet you don't see that as front page news.
I can't disagree with anything you said ... Ellerbe flashed last year in Ray's absence but has to do it over an entire season. Dansby and Burnett were going to be let go after this season anyway due to age and salary but both were very good in different aspects. Hopefully Ellerbe and Wheeler provide that speed at linebacker that was somewhat lacking. There is NO way Wallace will live up to that deal. A good year for him will be about 65-70 catches for right at 1000 yards and maybe 8-10 TDs. Not worth the Calvin Johnson-like guaranteed money he got, but hopefully he will be the deep threat the Dolphins have lacked since Tony Martin, McDuffie, Chambers, or Ingram? lol (sad commentary on my team there) OL is definitely something to watch. I'm not as worried about Martin as many, but more concerned with the RG situation. Pouncey, Incognito, Clabo are 3 solid to elite (pouncey) level guys so hopefully that works out. Lamar Miller has a lot to prove and needs to show he can stay healthy, which was his bugaboo in college. I am hopeful the fins win 9 games this year, but certainly would not be shocked if they finished with ANOTHER losing season.
simple fact is that it doesnt take a lot of skill or knowledge to be a sports journalist these days. knowing that, it doesn't make much sense to put any stock into what they say. in fact, there are a lot of guys on this board who are way more knowledgable, logical, informed. that's why i come here for my jets info, and dont go to the post or news or espn.
All of this nonsense was bred by Rex Ryan and Woody Johnson. Ryan acted like a big mouth frat boy, on that stupid Hard Knocks show, and with his asinine predictions, fed and flamed by Johnson. He painted a huge bullseye on himself. For those of you too young to remember, when Namath said "we'll win the Super Bowl, I guarantee it", the media went crazy. He was villified, called names, called unprofessional, threatened, etc. The dire predicitions poured in, including the famous 49-0 prediction. Namath painted a huge bullseye on himself. And through all this, the media overlooked that the Jets were a pretty good football team. Then, he went out and WON THE FUCKING CHAMPIONSHIP. He then turned to the media and said "um, you were saying?" and was met with silence. In fact, in the locker room after the game, he was asked about the media, and he said "well, all those writers can take their pads and pens and shove them." And the media had no response. And Joe Willie became an icon. But imagine if the Jets had lost that game? Namath would be dealing with what Ryan and company are dealing with now. That's what happens when you open your mouth and don't deliver. Now, the media frenzy pendulum may have swung way too far the other way, but that's what happens when you make yourself a target. To use a cliche, if you can't walk the walk, don't talk the talk. Whether you think the media coverage is right, wrong, or otherwise, it all started right at the source. Ryan, Johnson and the Jets have no one to blame but themselves.
I get it...Rex Ryan was loud and boistrous 3 years ago. The buttfumble happened etc etc. And I'm not even saying the media can't pile on, they certainly have that right. What I'm taking issue with whether it's ESPN, NFL Network, SNY, or anyone is that it's not even analysis. It's circumventing analysis to make a quick 1 line joke followed by a chuckle. That's my issue here. I don't care if they crap on the Jets but provide some actual analysis. Instead of "oh boy here come the jets....LOL"...Come on. And yes to all who responded, the only way to stop this will be to win. And hopefully all this garbage pushes the team harder. And to the poster who pointed out the Buttfumble comment in Madden. Yeah I noticed that too and was just like OH COME ON. BTW, the new Madden really does kick ass.
Hate on the guy all you like. Under this OC hes going to be a very good QB. Will he turn into Drew Brees....most likely not. Bit he has a historyof 4th qtr and game winning deives, already...and Marty will put him in a position to be the factor in the game, and sometimes take a game over.
I can't stand the media either but you have to realize that we brought this upon ourselves. Maybe not us personally, but Rex's boastful predictions and statements. When you talk so much shit, you have to back it up. We didn't. And now we are paying for it.
