The Jets obviously aren't happy with their QB options at the moment. Adding another QB to those options is kind of predictable given that at least 2 of the 4 QB's are dealing with injuries, at least 2 of the 4 QB's aren't at an NFL talent level and at least 2 of the 4 QB's have been having consistency issues in the snaps they've gotten this summer. Not that this is likely, but if you were planning to run the Pistol for awhile at the start of the season to give Geno Smith a more comfortable fit as he was breaking in you'd really like to have a backup QB who has worked extensively out of the Pistol also, which Harrell did at Texas Tech under Mike Leach.
I was going to enter this thread with fury. But after reading comments saying its just a 4th game preseason move, I'll cool out. I want Matt Simms to get a fair look.
Not sure why Geno won't play unless his ankle is acting up....I think he gets 1st series, MAYBE 2nd series and that's it. Half of Qtr 1: Geno Smith Half of Qtr 1 to End of Qtr 3: Matt Simms Qtr 4: Graham Harrell Then again the Jets starters did play until Qtr 4 in the 3rd preseason game so the starters may just take a break altogether on Thursday, which means no Geno.
TBH I wouldn't mind if Geno played a little bit against the Eagles bench to complete some more passes and get his confidence up.
Yeah, that's what I'm thinking. I wouldn't be surprised if he had a partially separated / subluxed shoulder, that popped back in. IF that's the case, there could be some rotator cuff issues* If it was his left he'd probably be able to deal with it. no bueno.
We only have Geno and Simms healthy for Thursday and possibly week 1 and week 2. The CS seems afraid to play Geno in case of injury if he is needed for week 1. Who knows maybe we will carry 5 QBs on the roster for week 1.
I don't mind that it's just a pre-season signing but unless Geno is hurt I hope they play him. Otherwise it's kind of silly as they keep saying that the competition for the starting job is still open...well, if that's the case wouldn't you want Geno to get more game time to see what he can do? If he's okay to play (and nothing indicates he's not as he's been practicing all week with no limitations that I've heard of) then he should play at least a couple of drives.
Another reason why there's NO reason to attend the last preseason game. Ever. It's gotten ridiculous. The second half should be a Madden simulation on the scoreboards. No actual human players.
Geno would not play if the Jets are afraid of the second string line getting him killed. With Sanchez injured do we really need to trot out the only other semi viable QB option we have in a meaningless game?
This is a good signing. I'm not sure why people are saying it's strictly a move for the last preseason game and that's it. Maybe - but Harrell can make this team. He's better than Simms and possibly better than McElroy. He's built for the WCO - played under Rodgers, smart football player (football family), and he's got moxie, this is the same guy that threw for 300yards and 2TDs in a game his senior year AFTER breaking his hand and being advised to come out of the game. that's the type of player I want on my team.
