1. Jeff Tuel did not have a Wikipedia page until Monday afternoon. As in less than an hour before this was posted. No joke. This might be the starting quarterback for the Buffalo Bills, ladies and gentlemen. Have you seen some of the ridiculous subjects that do have Wikipedia entries? There's one for "Fox Tossing"and another for "Socialist Hair," which is not a band name, mind you. And, in keeping with the spirit of this post, there's one for "Buffalo buffalo Buffalo buffalo buffalo buffalo Buffalo buffalo," which apparently forms a grammatically correct sentence. Welcome to Wikipedia, Mr. Tuel. 2. Tuel is pronounced "TOOL," which is exactly why we led the story off with a cutesy pun involving Tim Allen. We're sure you won't hear too many more of those over the ensuing days and weeks. 3. Tuel went 4-22 in 26 starts at Washington State. Sadly, such a record would put him among the winningest Bills quarterbacks in the past decade. 4. According to Tuel's WSU profile page, his uncle played baseball at Duke. That likely means his uncle is smart. And an annoying hoops fan. 5. Tuel has a Twitter account, and he has a respectable 6,000+ followers. That number is sure to go up this week, although no guarantees on what might happen to his follower total after the Patriots game. Among his most notable tweets in recent weeks (he's been busy with football, apparently): 6. The Patriots actually worked him out before the draft. And they passed on him, essentially, in favor of Tim Tebow. What in the world does that tell you? 7. Tuel joined Drew Bledsoe as the only other Cougar quarterback to start a game as a true freshman, starting five straight in 2009. But his college career got off track from there, as he broke a collarbone, re-broke it a year later, suffered an MCL sprain, had a bout with acute compartment syndrome and later suffered an ankle injury on top of that. So, you know, the Bills liked what they saw and thought he'd fit right in with their other quarterbacks. 8. On the surface, Tuel appears a bit ... bland. (He was a psychology major, for what it's worth.) But there's a fascinating little story about him wanting to petition the NCAA for a fifth year, with the NCAA apparently wanting him to blow the whistle on mistreatment under coach Paul Wulff's watch. Tuel chose against both and entered the NFL, where he was subsequently left off the combine invite list. Looks like Tuel is getting the last laugh, for now. 9. His final college game might have been his best: A shocking upset of rival Washington in the Apple Cup, a game Tuel was barely healthy enough to start. “This was our bowl game,” he said at game's end. But his NFL career might be the start of something even more special — a chance to beat Tom Brady — in less than two weeks time. For now, the Bills are just glad they have this Tuel in their cabinet. (Yeah, we went there again.) http://sports.yahoo.com/blogs/nfl-s...ybe-week-1-starter-vs-patriots-175523433.html
Just in case anyone actually thinks Tuel will be the starter....Marrone followed up his statement saying if EJ isn't ready to go. All reports have been EJ is recovering quickly and will be ready to start week 1. Of course they have to "plan" Tuel as the starter for now since EJ hasn't joined practice yet again. It's all a smokescreen that the media is running away with.
Never have I seen so much attention given to a 3rd string QB not named Tebow. Do people really not have anything better to do with their time than to research the entire history of Jeff Tuel? What's really the funny point for me is Jets fans making fun of a 3rd stringer, while the rest of the league makes fun of your starter(s). So keep poking fun at an undrafted guy who likely won't even see the field, while you continue to trot out your first round bust year after year.
I'm not expecting much from the Bills this year but I'm not going to be an elitist douche and act like they have no shot at beating us. Division games are always a toss up
yup ... Tebow recently taught the Dolphins that lesson in Denver a couple years ago. I was so disgusted after that game.
You really think your team is any better than the Bills, let alone THAT much better? I've said this before, but Miami has no proven QB, no proven running game, and your only threat in the passing game is a guy who only runs 9 routes. Couple that with a bad oline, and I think your offense is in the bottom half of the league. Defense is better than the offense, but you better hope that pass rush is great, because that secondary is bad. Real bad. You may feel differently, and I'm sure you do, but both of our opinions are reasonable at this point, because the dolphins haven't done anything. Are the Bills really in a different position? We also don't know what we're going to get, just like the dolphins. QB is unanswered at this point. I like EJ, but who knows. Have one of the best rbs in the league, solid receivers, and a good oline. Defense will be a lot better this year with Pettines scheme. Like Miami, the pass rush is good, secondary is not. I'd say Miami probably stops the run better. But both teams have talent, and no one knows what to really expect. I think it's kind of douchy for you to act like Miami is already so much better than everyone else when you haven't won anything, and it's still up for debate whether you even got better than last year this offseason.
To Tuel's defense, he played on some pretty horrible WSU squads. He did however manage to have pretty good chemistry with Marquise Wilson, who ended up being one of the only first team PAC 10 players for the Cougs. This last season Mike Leech took over the head coaching gig and they had some bright spots but still, hard to win in the now PAC 12. I went to last years Apple Cup in which WSU upset the UW Huskies, one of the greatest games I ever attended. But hopefully for Bills fans and Chris Bermans sake, EJ is healthy enough to start the season.
I actually saw this guy play and struggle to beat my putrid UNLV team last year. If I remember correctly he has a big arm.
