...what positions are you folks keeping an eye on for possible upgrades for our team??

I am specifically keep an eye on the RB, WR, SS/FS & kicking positions.

so far I've seen PK Dan Carpenter hit the wire...I'm all for releasing Cundiff and bringing him in for the last game to see what he can bring. I'm just NOT comfortable with either kicker in a pressure situation. If you can't get it done in overtime in a preseason game then I'm definitely not happy about the possibility of a WC spot being on the line in game 16!

There are some teams that are LOADED at RB. Heck the 49'ers 3rd string guy is better than Ivory, from what I've seen. I don't know... We certainly have to look...especially with Goodsen MIA.

    Thoughts??

I don't think there's an area on the team outside of CB, DL and maybe TE that would not benefit from a decent prospect cut by another team at this point.

I'd go RB, LB and FS as the top 3 areas but I think anybody who is young and interesting and gets cut loose should probably be looked at. The Jets are in a talent deficit situation at the moment. Adding talent any way they can is a good plan.

RB, LB, and WR. TE is another one. We just aren't that strong at those positions.

I think we're good at TE with Winslow and Cumberland.

Of the WR's, who would you cut for a decent prospect from another team?

I see the Jets problem at WR right now being that they have too many decent prospects and not enough good players at the moment. Santonio Holmes and Jeremy Kerley are the only WR's who are good players at the moment. Everybody else is somewhere on the prospect tree.

Yeah, I think with Winslow, Cumberland and Reuland you'd need a real sleeper of a prospect to get cut free somewhere else in order for them to make the Jets.

The thing to remember right now is that we're not talking cap cuts in February and March here. There are maybe a couple of surprise vets that are going to get let go through this process. Everybody else is going to be too old, injured or just a prospect who didn't work out in his current location.

    As usual:

    1. OL [Can never have enough]
    2. LB [Same]
    3. S [Same]

    ----------------------

    4. RB
    5. TE

Definitely LB, more specifically MLB. Fkn Harris and Davis look like scout teamers out there.
RB wouldn't hurt, hopefully Goodson does return to fill some depth. CB a possibility with Dee a little banged up and sub par preseason, and also Kyle Wilson getting sht on. FS as well, don't think we have a clear cut starter yet.

Why does that surprise you? Ivory was a 4th string RB on the Saints and Egghead Idzik gave up a 4th round choice for him.

This all confirms Idzik is an accountant not a football talent guy. All of his player moves have been terrible ... Garrard, Goodson, Peterman, Ivory.

I am not high on the Jets draft either.

He did two things right that he had to do: Dump salary and get rid of Revis.

And maybe Willie Colon is OK.

    That's about it.

Clearly this confirms that you've never seen Ivory play outside of 2 preseason games. Ivory is a very talented player. You dont average almost 5 yards after contact without being talented. His problem isnt the lack of talent, its staying on the field. He's only been practicing for what, 2 weeks?

He will come around and definitely show his talent level.

Idzik was given a shit hand, and he's trying to make the best of it. You certainly can not judge a rookie class after 3 preseason games, and just because you arent high on it doesnt mean anything.

What do you guys think about picking up Josh Cribbs for KR/PR duties? I really don't want Clyde back there risking getting injured or even Kerely for that matter.

  12. I think the Jets should look at guys in a similar position to Willie Colon/Dawn Landry/Antawn Barnes. Serviceable productive players capable of filling critical roles who aren't looking for big long term deals.

Jets are in a position where they have a lot of untapped prospects w/ good talent. They pretty much have a decent prospect at every single position(outside of Linebacker & TE). Some will step up & fill perceived voids nicely. But some will disappoint or fall short of expectations. The only way to find out is to give them playing time & continue the player development train. Supplementing w/ proven mid-level talent that isn't gonna break the bank is sound strategy.

The one position that really worries me is safety. None of Jarret,Allen or Bush have stepped up & we've seen guys out of position all preseason. Doubt it will happen but Kerry Rhodes would make a great stopgap till a more permanent fixture can be found.

Funny, I've been right about every dumb move made so far. As for Ivory not being on the field because of the injury history (which has continued since day 1 with the Jets) and not lack of talent, well, the injury history IS a problem. Why do you think he was 4th string and available?

We should be looking for a OG, and a TE who can block (Hartsock type)..
also wouldn't mind looking at Carpenter..

also i have no idea who our backup OT will be, unless they feel they could kick Colon back out in a pinch.

  16. Jason Smith was recently re-signed to be the back-up swing tackle.

Additionally both Colon & Ducasse can flex out to OT if needed. Also have Aboushi who will likely be headed to Practice Squad. OT depth looks pretty set.

As for guard, Jets look to be going young. Colon & Ducasse start w/ Winters as back-up. Campbell long term project likely headed to PS.

Bigger concern is back-up center. I guess as of right now Schlauderoff makes the squad. But he has always struggled w/ shotgun snaps since making the switch & just flat out looks more comfortable at guard.

The Jets' big problem at RB is that the O-line isn't doing a great job with the running game. It's excellent at protecting the QB, but they're having to fight for every yard rather than having 2 - 3 yards and then fighting for another 1 - 3 after contact. Almost all the ground yards are yards after contact, which suggests that the o-line needs to do a better job at run blocking.

Ivory can be good, but he needs a little room and some decent run blocking. If he's averaging 1 yard per carry in the regular season then yeah, it would be a horrible trade, but it's too early to say that he won't play much better in the regular season.

I'd say LB, both safety positions, and o-line depth are areas where we should look for new guys. Also any veteran QBs with 60+ career QBRs. We should also be on the lookout for new RBs too.. but for the moment it seems like more of an o-line problem than a RB problem.

yeah- definitely there should be some decent prospects cut around the league. the jets may not have a lot going for them, but they do have low expectations and the leeway to develop some guys. as idzik, apparently, is a good talent evaluator - or at least he has a good staff. so i expect three or four replacements coming in. i think the question is: which veterans (players who have reached their own personal ceilings) are on the bubble. i'm sure idzik won't hesitate to replace a solid vet with a good prospect. and the jets wouldn't be a bad choice for a guy like that as a free agent.

Umm, the best 3rd down back in the league, a 1st round pick, and a very solid RB? Sproles, Ingram and Thomas made Ivory expendable. Thats the only reason why.

You said Idzik can not evaluate talent and used Ivory as a prime example. Ivory does not lack football talent, which proves your dumb ass theory wrong that Idzik is just a number cruncher.

The problem with that is that we will be tight on roster space. We could end up carrying 4 QBs, plus a fullback, so I don't think we will have the roster space for a dedicated return guy. We'll probably end up asking Gates and Kerley to do most of the returns, even though like you I am uncomfortable with the injury risk there.
