Exactly. Learn from the Sanchez failure and accountability needs to be held on the team for how they handled his development. Yes a great qb can work through bad situations and Sanchez deserves blame but him being handled poorly from day 1 played a role in his underachieving. People underestimate the 2 games in 4 days to start the season factor. 1 against a Tampa D that's going to try and prove a point in that game, then 3 days to prepare for a road game against a team that rarely loses at home and a qb who puts points on the board in high numbers. Tough stretch for even a good qb, let alone a guy whose struggled this preseason and clearly isn't ready. Russell Wilson a 3rd round pick clearly outplayed Matt Flynn last season to earn the starting job. Mark Sanchez is on flynns level and arguably worse. Geno hasn't outplayed him to the point where its obvious he should start. Sanchez is a lost cause at this point, Geno isn't. Learn from the Sanchez failure and don't make the same mistake again. This is a worse Jets team then 09. Worse defense, worse running game, worse receivers etc that could mask genos growing pains. Let Sanchez earn his money and get ripped apart weeks 1 and 2 and ideally ease geno in week 3 with almost a week and a half to prepare for a winnable home game and a potentially winnable road game in week 4 and hopefully gain some confidence along the way.
You ppl are hilarious, give Geno some weapons and he'll win. Give Mark, Gmac, heck even Simms some offensive players they'll win. I know it hurts to see Geno lose the qb competition, it is what it is. He needs more time and development. Sanchezs first year in Pre season he didn't look this bad, and Geno has a real of. Get over it Geno needs time. I bet if you guys were coaches and were trying to win, you'd choose Sanchez to start also. There is no sane person, seeing what we seen from Geno would start him to win games. Question if tomorrow was the SB, which one of our QB'S would you start if you were a coach? This should be interesting. Plz no ifs...
Bright Call. Thats a permaban offense.....Except, the mods have ways of knowing that. MCKnot released. Got banned to prevent the predictable thousand posts of Geno falling off the cliff  (predictably, no fault of Genos)
The sad thing is if our D plays as well as they did after that 1st play and we can run the ball a little bit we can actually be competitive w/ mark yet we have "fans" that still root against that. It's just sad and why we have a joke of a fanbase. As bad as geno was he's young and will get better, to want to throw him to the wolves week 1 is not looking at the best interest of the franchise in any way but there is such an agenda against the QB with the most playoff wins in franchise history that "fans" are willing to do this- WANTING to do this. It's so embarrassing to be a Jet fan sometimes.
You start a rookie that has not earned the job you lose the team. The only people that think about tanking a season is the fans. The players and the coaches believe they can win and from how the preseason has unfolded there is no reason to believe otherwise. Sanchez has made a couple of mistakes in the preseason but that is why we call it preseason. This board is not judging Sanchez on how he has performed this camp they are judging him on the past. The defense looks decent the offense will be better if by nothing but scheme alone. Starting a rookie will tank the season lets hope Sanchez gets healthy. I promise you if Sanchez screws up this season I will be off his band wagon but I have been encouraged what I have seen from him this preseason. He is completing passes at a higher percentage and is making some great throws. The red zone crap is preseason stuff the offense goes vanilla MM will have better plays drawn up in the regular season in the red zone. The pick six on a screen unacceptable. This thread is not about Sanchez it is about an agenda to prove a point. Marks has struggled and has not progressed as quickly as this fan base has liked. He is only 26 he can still improve that is really the debate. So bringing up footage of Marks mistakes is disingenuous at best (I can do the same with manning). The real question is can MM get the potential out of Mark that made him a number 5 pick in the NFL. Only time will tell.
I would use the word "potential" but otherwise I agree. We have seen Sanchez's ceiling: a game manager who can do fine with a strong run game and solid defence but one that is going to make a few costly and dumb mistakes in every game (i.e. pick 6, missing wide open receivers, red zone INT, wasting a time out on something stupid, poor clock management, etc.). We know he's not a franchise caliber QB. With Geno we don't know what we have. He could end up being worse than Sanchez but he could also end up being a legitimate franchise QB. He has unknown potential, we haven't seen his ceiling. That doesn't necessarily mean Geno has to start week one, that might do more harm than good. But it does mean that if Sanchez is struggling there's no reason to give Geno a shot.
so based on less than 1 full preseason game you are ready to write off Geno for the next flavor of the month? why not use a 1st/2nd rd pick every year on a QB? how about new coaching staff every year too?
Your confidence in Geno has wavered pretty quickly. I'm not counting Geno out yet, but I am staying with my initial thought that he was a waste of a draft pick. I never understood what people saw in him from the get go. Things aren't looking too good right now though that's for sure.
I still got faith in the kid which is why I said he has a chance to not suck I just seen a ton of things that bothered me However I rather deal with him than Muck
If this is your mindset then, you will deal with Geno Smith for only a season because we are going to draft a new QB with prob a new coach because we will win only 4 games. He will become Jimmy Clausen pretty much.
I'm hoping not but the timetable for 2nd round QBs is limited Especially with a new coaching staff coming in potentially
He enjoyed it but his family didn't. For practice, he called them every vile name in the book all week long until he could get back on the board. His wife must have sent in an email pleading for his return, just to get him focused back on the message board and get him off her back.
Cimini shit this out this morning (from Rotoworld): http://www.rotoworld.com/player/nfl/5192/mark-sanchez Appearing on SportsCenter Monday, ESPN New York's Rich Cimini suggested Mark Sanchez (shoulder) is closer to "week to week" than "day to day."
Yeah. It depends to what extend Geno isn't ready. I haven't rewatched the whole game yet, but he did look awkward under center, performing handoffs and the three step drops. That said, the Jets could consider adapting the offenses to his strengths (Shotgun), or just going with one of the other guys. Just as a fan, another year of watching Sanchez isn't something I'm looking forward to.
