Out of that group Peterman is the real surprise to me. McKnight's issues are never ending, so not all that surprising... especially once Gates showed some flash as a KR.
I did not see that coming, but I am not shocked. He had all but lost a role on the team. It's sad though, and the Peterman cut surprises me now, but when we signed him I expected him to be our backup at best anyway. The real shock for me was him getting all that first team action.
Winters probably would've started if he was healthy. I'm sure that's the expectation right now and why the Jets felt comfortable letting Peterman go.
I hope so. I didn't realize until this off-season that Brick, and Nick and about to go into their 30's. Can you imagine life without them on the OL? They're still probably going to be great for us for 4-6 more years, but you never know with OL. I have started to grow some concern for the age of our OL, so going younger with this move makes me feel good.
Winters combined with the level of Play we are now getting from Vlad made Petterman expendable. I spent some time watching Vlad Saturday evening and was very inpressed with him. He is dominate in the riunning game when he gets his pad level correct. Still some room for improvement on the passing side as he lunges too often. He is improving, thats for sure.
I'm upset about losing McKnight. Kid was an amazing kickoff returner and under Marty as an offensive coordinator, his potential was unlimited. Maybe he had some conditioning issues early on along with mental/injury concerns during this offseason but this kid is a true talent. Someone is going to pick him up, and watch him emerge coming out of the backfield. Watch it be NE or Miami too. We are not that talented of a football team to let go one of the greatest kick returners in the game today. His potential alone was worth keeping around. I'm done venting but I know without question there was someone else, that should've been cut ahead of McKnight when in regards to our final 52 man roster. We don't have 52 players with as much talent and potential as this McKnight kid had.
Anyone surprised that Joe McKnight would be let go, isn't paying attention. Not at all surprised by any of these cuts except Peterman.
Not really surprised by any of them, including Peterman. As soon as we saw gates make a few returns (and do a good job of it) I kind of thought McKnight was done. We are thing at RB but as someone said maybe Goodson will be back this week or for week 1 at least and they plan on going with Ivory/Goodson/Powell (or Powell/Goodson, who knows).
I'm thinking the Jets staff knew Joe had concussion issues or medical issues that weren't worth dealing with. Too bad I liked McKnight and if he's healthy he can be a weapon on another team.
I loved McKnight and his almost kick return TDs before he got gassed and stopped at the 7 yard line then Mark throws a red zone pick in the process
He hung around for 3 years because of his talent. No doubt he is talented but at some point, you have to decide enough is enough. I get that he's a good KR, but roster spots are slim. In McKnight's case, it's his own fault, not ours. Mental issues, conditioning issues, fumbling issues...
