Just watching that video I saw at least 3 interceptions that were broken up by the receiver stripping the ball and at least 6 that should have been interceptions if the defender had reacted to the ball properly...that's how easily last year could have been a 25-30 interception season, just off of those plays.
I'd rather not ruin a QB prospect by putting him on the field when he's not ready. Obviously I don't care to see Sanchez anymore but not at the cost of potentially ruining Geno.
Idk, at this point I might rather roll with Geno just to see if we have something. If he sucks and doesnt look like a potential franchise QB, then we will probably be in position to draft a good QB prospect. If he does show some improvement, then we roll with him for another year and try and put some actual talent around him.
Unlike basketball -- where I think you need 3-4 years to learn the fundamentals and CANNOT make it up by playing early in the NBA -- I think that an NFL QB can make up the lost reps if he plays enough early in his NFL career. Clearly, Sanchez got those reps in 2009 and 2010. I can't blame his development on coming out early. If you told me what was better for Sanchez or any QB -- come out early, play 2 years.....or stay in school for 2 more years and then start -- I'd take the former.
Brian Costello @BrianCoz 4m Was told Sanchez does have bruising in shoulder but it's a symptom of the injury, not the actual injury. Not just a bruise, in other words Expand
Sounds like good news on Sanchez. Geno's performance showed that he probably isn't ready to play in the NFL at this time. Hopefully he gets some more opportunities against philly and shows improvement in his execution and decision making.
I find it amusing that people are so critical of Geno after playing three Quarters in preseason. He turned it over three times and he got us in the end zone twice. I can live with that for his first game action, and I expect him to get better. He's already a quantum leap above Sanchez in both arm strength and short touch passes. In comparison, Sanchez has played 4 quarters and has turned it over three times, including a Pick 6 ... And he's one big Winslow hit away from 4 turnovers and 2 Pick 6's. He's been in the damn league since 2009. That injury was the best thing that could have happened. The decision has been forced on Rex, and playing Geno from snap #1 was always our best option. This is a free year for him. Why do I need to see Sanchez bumble his way to a 3-6 record before they hand the reigns to Smith after the BYE anyway? Better we do it right now.
The first pick wasn't even his fault. He threw the ball and hit his receiver in the hands. A DB just happened to rip it out of his hands and because the receiver never maintained solid possession, it's ruled an interception.
What I want to see is Sanchez build on the success of 2011...2012 was a disaster on so many levels it isn't even funny. Worst OC in football, worst offensive line, worst running game, worst receivers, and QB play to match. Sanchez in preseason is completing 65% of his passes -- i see a lot of upside with this offensive system and personnel.
Sanchez completed 68% of his passes in the preseason last year. He's still the same guy. The system is better though.
sometimes i think people forget that peyton manning threw more INTs than TDs his rookie year. we have to be patient. i'd rather geno go in next year and make mistakes his rookie year and learn from then honestly. if the team goes 4-12, but geno shows improvement, we can drop a top tier WR or offensive weapon in the next draft. that would put us in a great position for the future
he was in there because Rex is an idiot. Plain and simple. If the JETS had a coach with a head Sanchez doesnt play a down in that game.
Just when I thought how bad Sanchez actually played last year.... I watched this. And then I realized that he might have been worse than I previously thought. The sad thing about that video is that it is only part 1. Part 2 is here:
Either one of these could be a horror reel compilation for a terrible career. The fact that all of these truly terrible plays came in part of one season is disturbing, and the reason why this thread is thousands of pages long.
Nice video but what is most sad is that Sanchez has had many epically bad games where he has played worse than the video. Such as Baltimore 2011, The Colts playoff win 2010, Arizona 2012, Tenn 2012 and SF 2012. These are the worst games I have ever seen a NFL QB play by a wide margin. But the SF game is special as he does it all. He displays amazing inaccuracy, the horrible screen INT, panicking under a rush and running in circles with his head down and arm extended until he fumbles, single handily turning a winnable game into a rout, causing the Holmes injury on a bad pass, and consistently missing wide open receivers all day by 10+ yards. The video could just show the SF highlights. What was amazingly bad and memorable for me was the extent of his inaccuracy in that game. I have never seen a QB miss receivers by a larger margin. Not even close. The sad thing was he had receivers wide open all game on many crucial third downs and he was overthrowing and underthrowing them by 10+ yards.
And most of those kids that come out early and that raw are riding pine the first season or two learning the game or they wash out after the first 2 or 3 years. Sanchez lucked out in coming to a team that had a good to great defense and a good to great running game that he could hide behind the first two years and could compensate for his turnovers....what we have is a QB who 4 years later is the same QB he was 4 years ago, doesn't read the field well, doesn't read defenses well and makes rookie just about every game. Sanchez had started for 1 full season where he wasn't even the main offensive weapon with around 370 attempts, give or take. the year before on 120ish attempts he had basically a 1 to 1 interception to TD ratio. His 2.5 to 1, give or take, td to interception ratio in his one year of starting was decent, but nothing to crow about. Tyler Bray put up essentially the same numbers against tougher competition and went undrafted because he came out early...and he even had more experience, granted Bray had a few off field issues but nothing of a very serious nature.
If the Jets had a head coach such as you describe Sanchez would have been benched midway through 2011 and never seen the field in 2012.
That last play on the 2nd video I have absolutely no idea what Sanchez was trying to do on the fumble, I mean that's just pure rookie dumb dumb dumb.
