The Jets will work out free agent QBs Matt Leinart and John Beck.

This would seem to imply Mark's injury is serious enough to keep him out a few games.

Just give Geno the keys and let him test drive this damn thing. The team is gonna be mediocre at best this year so might as well let the young draft pick take his lumps and get the experience.

That shows lack of confidence in geno to me. John beck has never won a NFL game and Leinart is a worse version of Sanchez.

I'd prefer geno starting a few games into the season but id rather him play while learning on the job over these 2 guys starting

Beck and Leinart? Do they really bring anything more to the table than McElroy/Simms?

This seems to keep getting worse...

This just goes to show that Rex Ryan has no clue on how to manage QBs.

These two QBs are about as useful as a wet rag. Just stick with McElroy and Simms.

Multiple beat reporters tweeting Jets are NOT bringing in these QBs or any QBs

    Why not just start McElroy?

Most likely Leinart and John Beck will be competing for backup.

Hearing that Mark Sanchez does not have a fractured collarbone. So there's that. MRI will tell extent of soft-tissue damage, if any. #Jets

They've got a story up on NFL.com basically citing the same source. I'm not sure what's true. Which beat reporter denied it? I didn't see anything from the shitbird brothers (Manish/Cimini)

    http://www.nfl.com/news/story/0ap20...-leinart-john-beck-to-work-out-for-jets-bills

The Buffalo Bills look like they will have some competition for the backup quarterbacks currently available on the NFL scrap heap.

NFL.com's Gil Brandt said Sunday morning on SiriusXM NFL Radio that the New York Jets will also work out Matt Leinart and John Beck, per the show's co-host, Ralph Vacchiano.

After Geno Smith's disastrous outing in Saturday night's 24-21 victory over the New York Giants and Mark Sanchez's shoulder injury, the Jets are looking to bring in another clipboard holder.

Leinart, Sanchez's decorated predecessor at USC, played (poorly) last season with the Oakland Raiders and lost a tryout with the Seattle Seahawks to Brady Quinn in April. Beck, meanwhile, hasn't seen a regular season game since the Washington Redskins cut him loose after 2011.

While bringing in some fresh bodies for practice and the final preseason game is likely necessary, Leinart and Beck aren't names that should be on any final 53-man roster list.

After Saturday night's decisions it seems pretty simple for the Jets: If Sanchez isn't healthy, throw out Smith and let him work through his struggles -- as painful as they appeared Saturday.

gil brandt did not say that. LOL @ how absurd the rumors are. the Sanchez xray was negative - lol @ the freaking out going on over a bruised shoulder on a qb that 50% of the fanbase didn't want to start anyway. lol.

Click "today's Jets tweets" at the top of this website.

They're saying Jets denied the reports.

If they're already calling multiple other options I think it's possible that Mark got Pennington'd last night. The one thing we know is that it was more than a scare. If it wasn't Rex would have said "he's fine" last night and put the whole mess to bed.

Looking through the scrap heap is just stupid at this point. Maybe there's fans who have delusions that we're somehow a playoff team but I haven't been one of those since last season.

This is a rebuild/cap-purge throwaway year. Always was. Trying to hobble together something more than we have with duct tape and prayers at this point is just a waste of money, time and false fan hope.

You have a young team, go let them be young and see what you have. Teams do it all the time for the better. Look at Indy over the last two years. No one is saying Geno is Andrew Luck, but we don't know that he ISN'T the long term answer yet. Let's see, and if he isn't we'll have more options next year.

Personally outside of the obvious mistakes I found myself just really liking the way the ball comes out of his hands, the mobility, and the decision making. He sailed one pick and was seriously late on the first one. Unless I see him being that innacurrate for 7-8 games in a row, I don't know that's who he is.

I'm not an all-in Geno guy, I just gave up on having expectations for this season months ago. I'd rather just evaluate everything we have this year (including Rex) and be ready to strike in 2014.

Call me crazy but I would take Jamarcus Russell over beck or Matt Leinart. He's lost his weight, had the natural talent to get picked #1 but lacked the motivation but from everything I've heard/read has done everything to turn his life around and would most likely make the most out of any shot he's given even if its in a backup role. Low risk/high reward and could be cut easily if he sucks imo. Rather give him a shot over 2 guys that 99.9% most likely will suck.

Call me crazy too, but I wouldn't mind trying out JaMarcus if we are going that route.

Mark is not seriously injured. He is fine and will be ready for the opener. The guy reporting they are trying out QBs is wrong (according to multiple beat writers).
