Reports are that his clothes were still in his locker after the game.

He never got dressed. Only reasonable explanation is that they took him to get checked out medically still in his uniform.

What's the preliminary diagnosis for the shoulder?

Usually by now something has leaked...

I understand the frustration with our options at this point. However we were done in terms of being a competitive team when the cap went blooey on us for the season and we were forced out of the effective free agency/retention process by that fact.

If the cap hadn't gone blooey we probably could have cobbled together another roster good for somewhere between 7 and 9 wins and a possible playoff spot in 2013. Then again, things like the Keller injury would probably have kept us on the low end of that scale and if we had a few injuries like that, well we're 6-10 again.

This is a rebuilding team. In a year or two we'll be very glad we did that. It'll give us a real chance at a trophy at some point in the near future instead of being a 9/10 win potential team most years that goes 4-12 every 4 or 5 years because the talent bottoms out on us.

I don't follow Mehta, this is from the "Today's Jets Tweets" page:

Hearing it could be a labrum or collarbone issue for Mark Sanchez. MRI will provide better diagnosis. #nyj

This is the proverbial blessing in disguise, people. A Sanchez injury precludes a decision. Geno... go get it....

Can we give him the same benefit of the doubt that we gave Sanchez???

Both could be significant injuries. Broken collar bones can be season ending.

As much as I've lost complete faith in Sanchez

I would rather have seen Geno earn the job

He was rubbing his collarbone on the previous hit after he got up and then again after the big hit and roll. Given the protective gear that he wears he might just have a really bad bruise that was inflicted on the first hit and then really hammered again on the second one. The inflammation might not have fully occurred under all the protection before the second hit and then suddenly flared up when he was hit again.

If he had a broken collarbone and he made two throws on the sidelines he's got amazing pain tolerance.

Not good...let's hope it's just a bruise but if he went to the hospital in his uniform and now this leaks out I have a really bad feeling. I'm not going to lie but I was not a fan of the Geno pick because I just don't see him having success in the NFL but now throwing him into the fire when he clearly is not ready has disaster written all over it.

What we can hope for is a QB who knows the WCO gets cut and we can sign him on the cheap if Mark is out for any significant time because what I've seen of Geno I see 3-13.

It's not a good situation, that's for sure.

On the other hand Geno either is coachable and capable of correcting his mistakes or he isn't and the best way to find that out is to let him makes the mistakes, coach the hell out of them and then just let the chips fall where they will.

Labrum or collar bone injuries are tough

Milliner was just out because of his labrum

Carmelo Anthony had a partially torn one during the playoffs and looked like shit

In the NFL one turnover can change the entire complexion of the game.

Particularly when the turnover happens like clockwork and effects half the games you play each year.

I don't feel comfortable about Geno starting week 1. I just hope Geno looks a little better against the Eagles to ease the uncertainty.

Who do you feel comfortable about starting week 1 from the 4 options available?

    I see it as:

Geno Smith - raw and unpolished, having issues with the speed of the game, seems to revert to bad habits under pressure

Mark Sanchez - weak mentality that has worsened over time, reverts to bad habits under pressure, makes unforced errors - like inaccurate passes - all the time

Greg McElroy - harried under pressure, holds the ball too long and takes sacks, weak physically and seems like an injury waiting to happen, arm strength an issue

Matt Simms - inaccurate passer, lacks touch on his passes even when they're on target, has no track record of success since high school

Basically all the candidates have some glaring weaknesses at this point.

I played a game of football in HS with a broken collar bone. I later left that game in an ambulance and under extremely strong direction from my mother became a golfer at some point that night. You can actually get through the pain in normal range of motion type things, but additional contact is really bad, and once broken it can break again really bad and be life threatening.

If we're judging this based on one game then Geno might be the worst of the 4. Honestly McElroy and Simms have looked better at times in preseason. So if Mark can't play and Geno continues to look terrible then I'd have to go with McElroy. He's the quintessential WCO QB, smart, accurate, good decision maker and he's mobile in the pocket. Plus he has experience. I feel like he's been shafted throughout this whole "competition". He isn't any better or worse than any if the QB's on the roster.

LOL, comparing one game to a whole career, and then not even getting the one game comparison correct. Geno had 3 not 4 turnovers, Which still isn't good but it's 25% better than 4 that you give him credit for, unless of course your giving him credit for Sanchez's fumble.

Now lets do a comparison of the two QB's this pre-season.
Geno Smith 22 of 37 for 246 yards 1td 3 interceptions, Aproximiately 3/4 of which came against first string defense.
Mark sanchez 27 of 42 for 294 yards 2 TD 2 Interceptions, 1 fumble. Approximately 1/2 of which were against 2nd and 3rd team defenses.

So yeah, here come the excuses....for Sanchez, from people like yourself. Geno had a bad game, yes. But his stat line reads almost identical to Sanchez's....well with two key exceptions. Geno Didn't throw a pick 6 or a bone headed Red Zone pass. Both QB's have turned the ball over on roughly an equal number of snaps.

So yep, lets hear those Sanchez Excuses, a 5th year QB who can't outperform a rookie who had a bad game.
