A head coach & QB don't make or break a franchise. There are 21 other starting positions, assistant coaches, GM scouts, facilities, etc. It's the WHOLE big picture.. Here you go again...fixating on one aspect based on EMOTION..and screaming for heads to roll as a result. You simply can't accept disappointment w/o there being a scapegoat. Tell me..who was the better option at QB the past 2 years? Tebow?Mcelroy?Brunell? Please. Like it or not Sanchez was the best on the roster. When you draft a young QB you expect to be the franchise, you proceed under the assumption that there are going to be good times AND bad times along the way. We've seen both with Sanchez & to ignore that fact is just laughable. Furthermore, who was Sanchez throwing to from midway through the season onward last year? A bunch of street free agents w/ acouple week's worth of classroom/practice time who were barely good enough to be fodders back in training camp. The team STUNK. There was no depth at the skill positions. How is that Sanchez's fault? How is that REX's fault? It's about the big picture. Tannenbaum went all out from 08-10 w/ contracts & the likes. When it cauht up..he had no answer. I'm sure Rex had his input on many of the roster moves & certainly Sanchez didn't set the world on fire the last 2 years. But the real reason for the downward spiral has been aging roster, lack of depth & lack of cap space. It cost Tannenbaum his job. Explain to me how that is in ANY WAY Rex's fault?
100 percent correct tomdeb. Hate the Rex. Shoulda been canned with Tanny for sure, just for the Sparano hire alone. Rex tries to prove he is a defensive 'genius' and his team simply does not tackle well at all. I agree with 4-3 argument completely. Who does this? Drafts DL's in the first round three straight years and continues to run a three man line. Yes, indeed Rex should be an EX. Jets head coach that is.
Barcs. Second best winning percentage for a franchise that has exactly ONE coach with a winning record overall...Bill Parcells. Al Groh went 9-7 in his only year but who counts him anyway? Walton was a loser, Coslet as well as Pete Carroll. Herm was a loser, so was Mangini and after this year so will Rex. Even Weeb Ewbank lost more games than he won in NY. Rex sucks as a HC and is really only half of one anyway.
You are telling me you don't enjoy Rex's playoff runs, the beatdown of the Colts, the hot start with Favre, etc in the moment? Yeah they haven't won the Super Bowl in 44 years, but I think there have been enjoyable moments scattered in there. Of since we haven't won the SB the enjoyable moments are of course offset by the unenjoyable moments. But it hasn't been 44 years of 1-15 or 2-14 play. They are still chasing that ultimate goal, but it hasn't been all bad.
The '68 Colts were a great team. While the 60's Packers overall record gives them the nod, it should be remembered that the 1965 Colts were about to clinch the Western Division but lost BOTH QBs (Unitis & Cuazzo) and had to play RB Tom Matte at QB working with a wristband that had the plays on it in a playoff game vs. Green Bay. Even then, the Colts had the game won until the refs blew the game by calling a Don Chandler chip shot FG choke good at the end of the 4th quarter which put the game into OT--Colts got screwed. The rules were changed the following year with the uprights extended and ref positioning. The original "wide right."
Dear Internet Citizen, He is actually just a green cadet and not technically part of the internet police, sir. I never gave him permission to call you out and I will personally take him out back and whip his hide. Please continue with your dementia-inflienced internet postings. First sign of adversity? Rex Ryan has been taking the team backward for what will now be 3 years in a row. But I do agree about one thing. With the village idiot Johnson as the owner and another bean counter as GM it is hard to imagine anyone currently here turning it around. Someone like a Dungy or a Cowher needs to be given total control to run the thing. That is the Jets only hope.
People thought the 1968-69 Colts were world beaters. Only Lombardi who hated the AFL gave the Jets a slim chance when he said if Namath can stand up and throw they actually have a shot.
Didn't you defend it in the game thread saying Idzik and the ownership made him do it and he had no choice? Or was that someone else. Coulda sworn it was you because I found it funny someone named Rex Must Go was saying that
I don't follow Manish, but many people retweeted and were surprised Manish said this: @MMehtaNYDN: Rex Ryan should be fired tonight for signing off on one of the dumbest decisions I've ever seen. #nyj So much objectivity. Mehta's been gunning after Idzik and now Rex. For whatever reason he has an axe to grind and he isn't even hiding it anymore.
