I didn't think it was necessary. You saw the game right? If you don't agree with my opinion then counter it with some analysis of your own. The O had 5 possessions in the first half. Went 3 and out twice, ended another drive with 0 points, turned the ball over for 7, and then kicked a FG when we were down 21 points. The O had 4 drives that lasted less than 2 minutes. 3 of which were less than 1 minute. Down 14 in the 4th they went on an 8 minute plus drive and came away with 0 points. They scored a total of 17 points. 14 of those came when they were down by 2 or more scores. You want to ignore all of that because they cut it to a 1 score game with 3 minutes left and the D couldn't get a stop? The D deserves blame. They deserve blame for allowing the long drive to start the game. They deserve blame for allowing another TD 4 drives later. And mostly they deserve blame for not getting a stop when the team needed it most. Overall they only allowed 17 points and scored a safety. We only needed to score 16 points in that game to win it if we don't give Pitt free points with turnovers. That is a reasonable expectation for the offense. The O only scored 17 points while giving away 7. That means the D needs to hold Pitt to less than 10 points to win. That is not a reasonable expectation for a D. Both units deserve blame but to put more blame on the D than the O in that game is not right.
Fair question. It's the NFL, rosters and coaching staffs change all the time. Being a good NFL QB Means making adjustments AND making the players around you better. Sanchez was very raw coming out of college, He had less than 500 total attempts in his college career and had only been a starter for one season where he had under 400 attempts. In his Sophomore season where he had 114 attempts he had 7 TD's to 5 Interceptions. His Junior year he had 366 attempts with 36 TD's which is good, but he also had 10 interceptions which when you consider the relatively low pass attempts isn't very good, that's a rate in college of 2.7% which isn't great for a college QB, it's not horrible though. But consider this over his entire college career he had a 41-16 TD to interception ratio, or about 2.5 to one. that's not real good for college, Take Geno Smith, for example, over his college career he was 4.7 TD's to interception ratio. Tyler Bray, who went undrafted, was similar to Sanchez with about a 2.5 to 1 TD to interception ratio over his college career and had a very similar season last year to Sanchez's. One other thing Bray and Sanchez have in common, both of their head coaches and the general consensus when they entered he draft was that they needed another year in college ball but elected to ignore that advice and come out. So while the Jets did him no favors those first two years (other than drastically over pay for his performance) Mark did himself the initial disservice by entering the draft when he really needed to stay for some more seasoning at the college level. When Sanchez was drafted though he should have been drafted as a developmental QB. You can make all the excuses you want, but this is the NFL. When you enter it you go from being a boy to being a man and needing to stand on your own two feet. IN closing you can always find excuses for why a player didn't play well. The difference between a good QB and a poor QB, or bad QB, is with a good QB you don't need excuses, they perform no matter what the circumstances.
Why Feel confident when just a series or two earlier he had failed to score with first and goal from the 2 yard line? If the Jets score there then the defense Doesn't need to be perfect and get a quick stop. That's 7 points off the board, and don't forget that Sanchez on a turnover gave the Steelers 7 points. That's a 14 point spread right there, change those two things and the Jets most likely win that game. But of course it's the defenses fault for allowing 17 points all game.
Sucks that Geno couldn't separate himself. Guess we're stuck with Sanchez for the time being. Brutal.
Eh Geno's a rookie I'm giving him the same pass I gave Sanchez his Rookie and Sophomore season in the NFL, actually I gave sanchez pretty much a pass in 2011 as well. Sanchez is likely going to be the week 1 starter now since Geno had the pick problem today, though none of his 3 picks were as brutal as Marks' two and almost 3. That said, Geno hasn't clearly beaten Sanchez so Sanchez probably gets the nod, not that he's earned it either. Whoever is under center I will root for because I'm a Jets fan first and foremost, but my expectations for Sanchez are very low.
Sanchez doesnt look like Aaron Rodgers compared to a JV QB. Please dont use those two in the same sentence.
LOL and people thought Geno was a viable qb prospect and capable substitute for Sanchez. Now you haters can recognize a good thing before it's gone. I best not hear any criticism of sanchez on this board again
At this point I would give Sanchez the start week 1 and play Geno for 3 quarters next week to get more playing time. I think its inevitable Geno enters the starting lineup at some point.
So because Geno is apparently terrible and completely un-serviceable as an NFL QB, that excuses anything Sanchez has done or will do from here on out?
