So, since we have no way of bringing in one of the best quarterbacks in the league, we should settle for having one of the very worst? Interesting.

Now for the Red zone red herring sanchez supporters like to throw out there.

Yes the Jets had the 2nd highest percentage of scoring inside the redzone in 2011.
But a couple of deceiving facts in that. the first is nearly all of them were against teams ranked #20 or worst in red zone defense, all but 2 and one of those 2 was against the #16 team in Redzone defense.

But the argument will continue that he still "led" the jets to the 2nd highest percentage, a fact that is true and also misleading. the fact is the Jets ranked #16 in trips in to the redzone. Now let me ask you this, which is more impressive a batter who hits .400 in 150 at bats or a batter who hits .375 in 500 at bats?

The fact is the Jets in 2011 were ranked #16 in total trips in to the redzone. Yes having a high redzone percenetage is nice, but if you have problems getting in to the redzone a fat lot of good it does you. The fact is in Sanchez's BEST scoring season and by far his best Redzone season he led the team to only an average number of trips in to the red zone, all too often those drives stalled due to turnovers by Sanchez.
the Jets ranked #22 in terms of the percentage of drives which resulted in at least 3 points, yes you read that correctly, #22, bottom 1/3 of the league.

So yes, the Jets were dangerous when they got inside the 20 against subpar defenses..the problem is they were seldom inside the 20 and generally offensively inept.

But that #2 ranking sure looks good, till you look at it in context.

Um, how about Bill Belichick (fired by the Cleveland Browns, traded by the New York Jets the same day he became our Head Coach, for a 1st round draft pick)

EDIT: Oops. Awesome reading by me- forgot someone already mentioned that.

Gruden wasn't fired by Davis, son. He was fired from Tampa much later, and he never coached since.

As someone who has defended Sanchez, I do have to acknowledge this paradox. Excellent point.

But I do believe the slanderous accusations about him not being a hard workers are 100% bull****. 2 or 3 guys who had it out for him spread that to some press-types and it spread. By all accounts Sanchez is Top 5 in being early/staying late on the team during the season and offseason.

I also think this 'he's not been challenged and he's too comfortable' stuff is nonsense. This isn't someone looking for 1 last paycheck who doesn't care. Sanchez has regressed the last 2 years but it's not because he wasn't challenged. I think very few guys in the NFL go out to play and don't care if they embarass themselves and/or hurt the team.

Again...fair points acknowledged by this sometime-Sanchez defender.

Let me ask YOU: coming off back-to-back AFC CG's, what do you think about replacing 3 of the Top 4 WR's on the team for a 3rd-year QB ? And then, following up, replacing the OC for the first 3 years with a guy who's previous experience was as an OL coach ?????

Brian Schottenheimer at least got another OC job. Sparano ??? OL coach for the Raiders.

    THE RAIDERS !!!! lol !!!

    One obvious one for old-schoolers:

Our own Weeb Ewbank was fired by the Colts after 1963. Came to the Jets and made them pay five years later.

And Shanahan was fired by the Raiders and then won at Denver.

Sanchez has 2 pics in 2 games, one pic for 6 points and one pic in Redzone costing the team points..and that ridiculous end of half play where he cost the team 3 points,,,If Smith plays good tonight, doesn't turn ball over and scores some points he should be starter..All Sanchez has proved is he is still the same sorry Sanchez as last year.
