well, damn it all if that doesn't sum things up.

the dumb mistakes on Sanchez's part are what is making this so difficult, he seems to know the offense just fine and can run it just fine up until he does something thoughtless.

if that weren't the case the quest for caution and patience with Smith would undoubtedly be taken as it is the most ideal of situations.

we don't seem to have that though, theres likely pain to swallow with both QB's and this is why things are so up in the air.

Experience is supposed to mean playing more mistake free, but letting Sanchez take the lumps isn't that different than letting Geno do that at this point. Might as well go with the best option PERIOD since the veteran vs rookie debate is near meaningless when a veteran makes rookie mistakes himself.

    is that Smith? lets see...

Brady is experienced, right? didn't he have an INT and a fumble last night? This is PRESEASON, he's in his 3rd system in 3 years. These are practice games to get ready for the season. The only play that really annoyed the heck out of me was the end of the half last week. That can't happen in practice, minicamp, in the backyard, anywhere.

We can all agree that Geno will start eventually

Now if he proves he has any sort of command on Saturday then let him play from the jump

He'll have his growing pains early on but giving him September and October to make those mistakes might cost us a win or 2 but I'm willing to risk that

My point was that experience means nearly nothing when its biggest benefit over starting a novice (namely having gained a feel for the game enough not to make catastrophic decisions)seems all for nought.

I know its wrong to put so much stock into the preseason but the only reason I do that is because its been a pattern thats continued from last season. Brady has his off days too, but not nearly as often and thats why he gets a pass regardless.

Sanchez is just so hard to trust... its hard to know if he'll get better or reframe from dumb decisions like that end half play or that DL INT.

so to me experience doesn't matter any more if it ever did, just play the QB thats better suited for the offense and can do more in it then the other. I'm fine if Sanchez is it, with the thought that should he falter its an easy decision where to go next unlike last year.

It's awesome when a respected coach drops in some logic and fans still are plugging their ears going "nananana icanthearyou!"

I've been trashing Cowher's handling of QB situation for years.

Funny how you just showed up on the scene and already have some kind of horseshit opinion of the people here.

Hell, what did he say different than most of us. Geno lights it up he starts. Sanchez holds his own he starts. Whoopsie do.
YES please let's get him as a coach next year so we can wait 10 more years for a championship. May be,that is if he gets a QB.

Haha you made his point for him.

Maybe Cowher isn't the best source to use for your support of Sanchez.

If Geno is as terrible as Sanchez we certainly shouldn't wait another 4 years to drop him, that's for sure.

Wrong again. Thus far Geno has done nothing to indicate that he will ever be the starting qb. In fact thus far he's been the 3rd best QB on the team. He is getting an opportunity to earn the starting job but he has shown no indication that he will be the starting QB. If he sucks we will draft a QB in the first Rd in 2014.

So the QB ranking is McElroy, Sanchez, Geno if Geno is the 3rd best QB on the team?

Geno could the starting job because Sanchez sucks, that's the difference. There is no leash for Sanchez, thus the odds of Geno getting the job are higher if Sanchez had a longer leash. That's why everyone says Geno is going to start this season. The odds are Sanchez is going to screw up bigtime one game and the Jets are going to bring in Geno next.

The offensive side of the football has been steadily declining in each of the 4 years Sanchez has been under center.
Rex has never made any effort to build an offense that can score points and this year has been no different.
Sanchez wasn't given any chance to succeed with no consistency or talent on his side of the ball.
Geno being named starter now is just another step in the wrong direction.
