why are you bringing up the 34-17 game? he cost us that game, that hasn't been debated but since you can't debate the other points you are lying and bringing up this nonsense to deflect. and to assume a 17-13 win is laughable, Bal's O knew all they had to do was not turn it over and they win, they did nothing all 2nd half, in a close game everything changes- sort of like Den at the 5 yd line, at Miami 2009, Jax 2009, Atl 2009, etc... He deflected discussing the 2011 game for some reason, I wonder why that was? If you guys could read you would notice I also blamed the O, I simply said both units were bad and cost us the game. I understand average fans can't grasp the concept that the D played bad that night b/c they only allowed 10 pts but this is what I am trying to help you with. this is the problem with average fans, you are simply looking at the score and not what actually happened. In that Baltimore game: TOP: Bal 38:32 NYJ 21:28 Bal 3rd down conversions: 11-19, 58% 3rd downs allowed(5 or more yds): 3rd and 9 3rd and 28 3rd and 9 3rd and 9 3rd and 10 3rd and 5 3rd and 7 3rd and 10 3rd and 10 show me the NYG D allowing opponents to hold the ball for 40 mins? show me all the 3rd and longs allowed? coming from the guy making stuff up b/c he can't keep up in debates this is beyond comical.
the simple minded fans, they will latch on to one completely meaningless point in a debate I thrashed BB in and pretend like it overrides all the meaningful points I destroyed. :rofl2:
And the time of possession wasn't severely skewed by the fact that the offense couldn't get first downs? Or that they were 1-11 in the game on third downs? How many total possessions do the Jets need to score 11 points?
it could be but when a D is CONSISTENTLY allowing 3rd and longs(they allowed a 3rd and 28!) that keeps the O off the field and they cannot get into a rhythm. I blame BOTH the O and D, the O stunk too but what most people fail to realize is how bad the D was despite only allowing 10 pts.
But EQUAL blame? How about momentum of the Jets defense being affected by giving the offense the ball at the Baltimore 11 and watching them settle for a FG after a 3 and out? Or returning a pick to the Baltimore 31 and coming away with nothing? Think having to deal with such incompetence might affect a defense? Maybe forces them to try and do too much?
The simple fact, the one that Junc adroitly avoids in all his analyses, is that if the offense just got a few scores and held the ball on a couple of long drives the Jets would have won going away. There's nothing wrong with the Jets between 2009 and 2012 that a competent offense would not have fixed. Mark Sanchez was standing squarely in the way of competent offense for almost all of that period and that's why the Jets have devolved the way they have to this point. Everything else contributed to the decline but having Mark Sanchez be competent would have added 2 wins a year to the Jets between 2009 and 2012 and that's a world of difference.
you want to say 55% 45% D? I can buy it but it's close regardless. In case you haven't heard Baltimore has a pretty good defense too, we knew that would be a low scoring game, having 20 minutes of TOP isn't going to help a decent O against a top D.
Sanchez is the highest paid player on the team and a number one draft pick that the Jets traded up for. It is his responsibility to win games on days when the D is not good. If he was drafted in the third Round where we belonged then he would get a pass. The bottom line is he is getting paid to win games and make the players around him better. He is not that guy period end of story. He is not good and that is the bottom line!
so it was Sanchez's fault the D allowed all those 3rd and longs? it was Sanchez's fault Shonn Greene fumbled after the play by Cro? Interesting. If we got rid of mark we would have been a dynasty! if only we had great postseason QBs like Peyton, Rivers, room, Schaub, Ryan we would be going on 3-4 SB titles right now! let's say we add 2 more wins. we still finish 2nd in 2009(remember NE rested starters) and get the 5 seed, we still finish 2nd in 2010 and maybe get the 6 seed where we play Pitt a round earlier so we may not have made a title game. last year we win 8, in 2011 we make the playoffs as a WC. The only year 2 games would have made any difference was 2011 and last I checked it was our "great" D that blew 2011.
He's won games when the D has tried to blow them and at times the D has picked up the O. neither unit has been very good since the end of 2011.
This is a solid assessment of everything in a nutshell. Furthermore, if he was a 3rd Round pick/getting paid like a 3rd Round pick, then he probably would've been cut already, because he definitely ain't a franchise Qb.
Games Mark and the pass O picked up the D/run game: 2009: at Mia(L) 2010: at Mia at den at det at Cle Hou at Pit(reg W & post season L) at Chi(L) 2011: at oak(L) Buf at Was 2012: at Mia at NE(L) sure there have been plenty of times the D/run game have picked up the pass O too but to pretend like mark and the pass O have never picked up the slack is simply incorrect.
The guy is the highest player on the team and we gave up picks to get up there to draft him, and he is struggling to beat out a 2nd round rookie for his job. That's fucking pathetic.
if it was a fair competition with a clean slate sanchez easily would have won the job already. this has more to do w/ a new GM wanting to pick his QB.
He can't help himself. He really thinks Mark Sanchez is an acceptable NFL QB that would win a Super Bowl if he just had superstars all around him helping him out. The average fan just doesn't understand how silly it is to get rid of a marginal player once you've found one.
It's true and despite backing Sanchez I don't have an issue with it. A new GM usually gets to pick his HC and QB, Idzik didn't get to pick his HC so he wants to put his stamp on the team w/ the QB. There is a clear struggle btw Rex and Idzik on this issue. Sanchez has never done anything for Idzik, he has for Rex and Rex wants Mark while Idzik wants Geno.
nearly made 2 w/ good not great talent, if his D stepped up like Eli's Ds did he'd have SB titles. Some of us don't see things in black and white, we realize all that has gone on around the QB and realize it isn't all the fault of one man.
Aside from a half-baked article from Manish and your own suspicions, what is your argument for how they have stacked the deck against Sanchez? By that I mean, how have they set him up to fail in practice and in preseason?
