Revis was awesome while he was here, a true lock-down corner. But for 16 million a year? I don't think he's worth it.. I wish him well, and hope he has as good of a career in TB as he did in NY. Nobody should be resentful of this man. He has done a lot for this organization.

The Bucs have made a lot of moves for vets without being sure they have a QB. That kind of puts them in the same place the Jets were in 2009, 2010 and 2011. They probably have a similar W-L record to those Jets teams if Freeman shows anything above what he's done before. They probably have no shot at an NFC Championship game if he's just along for the ride though. That was a Rex defense thing.

There are two sides to every stroy. What if Revis tears his ACL again? What if he returns as a shell of what he once was?

An ACL injury to a corner, is one of the worst injuries for any position. Revis will have to back pedal (unlike WR's, TE, RB' and other positions), he'll need to stop on a dime when a WR cuts hard, he'll need to jump hard and high when defending taller WR's, he'll have to keep up with blazing fast WR's going deep, he'll have to be physical at the L.O.S etc. An ACL injury to a CB is not something that's easy to recover from.

We made the right move by trading Revis. The goal is to field the strongest 52 man roster and I'm sorry, but paying Revis 15+ million per year wasn't going to benefit us as an overall team. Especially coming off a serious ACL injury during week to in which he missed the remainder of the season.

Also, I don't look at it as if Dee Milliner is replacing Revis, because we have an All-Pro corner in Antionio Cromartie who's replacing Revis as our number one CB with Dee Milliner becoming our #2 CB with #1 ability/potential.

Lastly, I loved everything about Revis when on the football field (my favortie Jet of all-time outside of Martin) but when was it going to end? When was Revis going to stop holding out for larger contracts and causing offseason problems amongst our front office?

Revis no longer being here, is actually a breath of fresh air. Something tells me at the age of 28 Revis won't be what he was during the next 6 years moving forward as he was with his first 6 years with the Jets. After coming off a serious ACL injury, for a CB, for all we know he could return as a shell of what he once was and/or a top 5-10 CB instead of the best overall shutdown we've seen.

We freed up a ton of cap space for future additions along with drafting Sheldon Richardson with the pick we landed for Revis. We'll see come next season, how strong of a team we have after Revis when we're able to splash with cap space come free agency.

That's one side, definitely. I think it may be the unlikely side, though.

Players seem to be coming back from knee injuries quite well. I am of the opinion that they are leaving the country, having stem cell treatment done and keeping it quiet. Adrian Peterson's amazing return speaks that to me.

I'm not sure if it would have been a great thing to sign him for 16mil per year, but I would have liked to see how it played out if the GM was also a personnel guy and wasn't under the gun to win now under any circumstance.

Don't confuse All Pro with Pro Bowl. Cro was All Pro in 2007. He isn't anything like Revis. And he had shit as a 2CB in 2012, so they didn't challenge him. The Jets drafted Milliner, who may not go nuts out of the gate, but he will guarantee that Cro gets some targets this year.

And there will be threads on this board wondering what happened to Cromartie because of it. Bet on it.

I have a hard time blaming Revis for the entire situation, but he did hold out in 2010 and he did fight for a string role contract.

But if the Jets had had a personnel man that could understand personnel instead of just a contract lawyer as a GM, they may have been able to negotiate a contract that worked around personnel that helped the team win. And don't let me get started on the Sanchez extension.

It wasn't just Revis that shipped Revis out of town.

[quote[Revis no longer being here, is actually a breath of fresh air.[/quote]

You'll come on that air when you see the contrast in secondary performance with Cro being the true #1.

You are still counting on an injury that is treatable with alternative medicine. It sounds like you are trying to make yourself feel better.

And... we're back to freeing up cap space that was managed badly by a guy that wasn't a personnel guy and was pressured by the owner to do anything to beat the Pats.

It's a well-worded post, but it still kind of rings Homer.

I agree while it was nice to have a top player at his position in the entire league unfortunately it was the wrong position. A CB who demands 16 million dollars per year is prohibitive to any team in the NFL. Especially with the cap.

It would be one thing if it was a QB but 16 mil to one player to other than that wont cut it in this league if you want to be successful long term

It would have been sweet if we could have at least brough back Landry. How much did he end up with in Indy?

Someone needs to make another poll:

Which player on the Jets roster will take Revis' knee out in game one of the regular season?

My money's on Vlad the Impaler pulling on a screen pass to Ivory.

He signed with the Colts for 4 years/24million/14 million guaranteed. Compare that to Dawan Landry's 2 year/3 million contract with the Jets and the Jets saved 4.5 million per year at the position.

It didn't help that teams A) knew Revis was going to look for a monster contract if he came back healthy. B) that evidently no team other than Tampa was a serious bidder in the process.

Idzick tried to get other teams involved to drive up the price, and eventually got Tampa to drive up their own price slightly.

If the NFL did not have a hard salary cap I think the Jets would have kept Revis, but the NFL does have a hard salary cap and I'm sorry, no CB is worth 13-15% of your total cap space. No Safety is worth it, no OL is worth it.

The only players on the team that are worth as much as 10% of your cap over the term of their contract (note you can have an individual spike at 13-15% of your cap in a single given season, or even two seasons) but when a player is wanting 16 million or so per year, you really can't spread that out in any way that gets you under 13% or so of your cap every year of the contract. I mean I guess you could backload or front load it so that he takes up 35-40% of your cap in one year but you'd be fielding one hell of a poor team for the rest of the field.

Does that mean Ivory will drag Revis all the way to the bench?

Would we call that a bench screen? Is Vlad pulling to the Gatorade bucket?

Of course you will. Traitor. You'll only be happy if Revis picks off Sanchez 3 times. Why do you want the Jets to lose?

yes, next season. I don't expect anything this year.but if he continues to be dominant than something will probably get done next year. he is the type of player you pay top dollar for

Def would've liked Revis back but not for his asking price.

    Will we miss Revs??
Depending on how Cro and our 1st round draft choices play. If Cro is a top corner like last season and Millner plays well, then we don't miss Revis at all.

As long as we maintain our strong corner play we should not miss Revis.

I know its preseason and this probably happens every year as people hope the bad play continues into the reg.season but tonights Patriot Game 3 was absolutely shitty.

Fumble after fumble and Tom threw a INT and looked off for most of the night, receivers too.

Hopefully this year this game is a sign of things to come during the reg. season. But yeah...

Don't sleep on his older brother (by a little less than two years) in Dawan Landry.

None of the Landry brothers are known for their coverage ability, both are known for being hard hitting Safetys. Now Dawan may not hit as hard as LaRon, but Dawan is every bit the tackling machine than LaRon is. LaRon has averaged 6.03 tackles per game throughout his NFL career while Dawan has averaged 5.70tackles per game throughout his NFL career. Both can play the run and tackle with the best of them (Safety wise).

Over the previous 4 years Dawan has combined for 397 tackles with 0 games missed. An average of 99.25 tackles per season.

LaRon over the previous 4 years has combined for 323 tackles with 16 games missed. An average of 80.75 tackles per season.

There isn't the same amount of injury concern with Dawan as there would be/is with LaRon. Outside of one season (2008) Dawan has played all 16 games during 6 of his 7 NFL seasons.

Last but not least Dawan Landry knows Rex Ryan's defensive system. Spent his first three NFL seasons with Baltimore alongside coach Ryan. Don't sleep on Dawan because this man is going to be a player for us this season. Like his brother, he's an animal on the football field.
