Owens didn't get signed to Dallas until 2006, he played for Philly the two seasons prior, and his signing was the harbinger of Parcells' departure, because Jerry went back on his promise of letting BP control the personnel. I had to witness that nonsense locally because I have lived in Texas for a little over a decade.
Lack of knowledge on the offensive side of the ball ????? I never understood our fans saying this about Rex. while in the next breath saying he is a great DC. What you fail to understand is you have to have a very good understanding of offense, to plan how to beat it. Rex never lost the locker room, that is more media BS, he has never had a team quit on him. That's not to say that his OC and DC did not lose control. As a rookie head he lost touch with the locker room. To be fair that should never happen and was a learning experience for Rex. Yet Tom C over on the Giants lost his team, but he learned and they won a SB. Every HC in the NFL is stronger to one side of the ball. It's all about the record and Rex is still the winningest HC. So if your hell bent on dumping Rex, at least be honest and stop the "it has nothing to do with his personality"
He was brought in to win a championship for Mr Hess " who was running out of time". He did not do that, he did turn around a team that had a very good young HC in Pete Carroll, who was dumped way too early for a clueless R Kottie. Woody then begged him to stay on and finish the job, but he was "done with coaching" . That is till Jerry Jones threw a bunch of money at the ( great one ) who suddenly got the coaching bug again.
Yes, all of this is true, but whats your point? He turned around a 1-15 team! Isnt that what he gets paid to do. He took NE to the SB, Isnt that what he gets paid to do? He got the coaching bug again, and won in Dallas, isnt that what he supposed to do. Are Jet fans upset with Parcells, because he didnt stay, and then took another job? Hmmm, I'm just grateful that I got to witness his greatness coaching my favorite team. The thing that surprises me most about Parcells, is how long they kept him out of the HOF!
Really, its NOT personality! Look, the coach that I absolutely worship, BILL PARCELLS had very little if any personality, and if you watched his pressers (which I loved), he was downright rude and onery to the media, but damn, that guy could coach, and he coached with fear, and toughness, but no discernable personality. No, my dislike for REX has nothing to do with personality, and everything to do with his lack of Head Coaching skills. Sorry!
My civilian doctors have measured me 6'0" since I was 17 years old and beyond, but when I became a military man, they measured me at 5'11 & 3/4s and it always annoyed the hell out of me to look at that on my military ID. Would you like to know how many times longer my dick is than yours next?
I've never totally agreed with the notion that Rex actually lost the team in 2011. They were 8-5 coming off of a blowout win over KC at home, going into their final three games of the season. They proceeded to get thrashed in Philadelphia, but then lose two very close, competitive games to the Giants and Dolphins, to close the season. I honestly don't think they "quit", nor do I think they were "lost", I just don't think they were anywhere near as good as we thought they were. They obviously had some well publicized locker room issues, but I personally think Rex gets way too much shit for that stuff. In retrospect, I actually think we all overrated them coming into 2011.
How does this thread still have life? The op was pathetic and has turned into a sloppy shit hole. We already have that with the Sanchez thread. /close thread
It wasn't a 2 QB system, it was supposed to be for wildcat. It was just used horribly wrong. Our best chance to win was true. Tebow & McElroy were not better than Sanchez. Rex benched him twice hoping one of them would step up, but it did not happen. He said it once, when reporters asked him to estimate, and the number was 20. "Tim is going to be a major contributor to our football team. With the Wildcat specifically, the great thing is you don't know if we're going to run it one snap a game or 20 snaps a game -- you have no idea. Every week, it could be different. That's some of the preparation problems he gives you." What does the media do? "Rex Ryan says Tebow will have 20 snaps a game!!" That's almost as blown out of proportion as your 30-40 snaps exaggeration. There's a reason he brought in MM. It's very rare to find a coach that specializes on both sides of the ball. That is usually a trait that evolves over time with experience. He's been a DC for near a decade and a HC for 4 years. Specifically, which parts of in game management and time management are you referring to? It's not Rex's fault that the offense didn't produce that much. We had bad offensive coaches, and poor QB play. Schotty lost the locker room. Rex took the blame, but everyone knew what was going on. The line had a piece of swiss cheese at RT, a banged up QB, and an OC that couldn't adjust for that weakness and didn't utilize Holmes properly. They were frustrated, especially down the stretch when it seemed they were playoff bound but stunk it up. Even LT admitted that Rex made him want to run through a brick wall for him. I mean come on, do you deny that the talent has declined over the past couple years? Is it really a shocker that the production declined along with it? I guess that's just the way it is with many fans. Doom and gloom.
Good points, Barqs. But ... I heard on sports talk radio that Sanchez was responsible for turning the ball over (either fumble or int.) 50 plus times the past two season which was more than any other starting QB. If my starting QB had those kind of ball control issues then Tebow or McElroy would be on the field or I would be going to the GM to find another QB somewhere. The definition of an idiot is doing the same thing and expecting a different result.
Correct me if i'm wrong but didn't Marvin Lewis build that Ravens defense and Rex inherited it? Rex had no decision in picking players on that Ravens team and that my friends is what it's all about. You need to have the horses to win the race.
