real talk, all I see here is herd mentality and people parrotting each other ganging up on Mark probably partly out of jealousy.
I never, ever do that. I have discussed his horrible #s, usually when things like "he was the first 4,000 yd passer" are told to me I will explain how meaningless that was as he threw us out of a playoff spot w/ his league leading INTs. I have the ultimate credibility here b/c I know what I am talking about.
Where's the context? You did not see him play!!! You have NO context. You compare playoff games and wins from two eras, which is asinine. In the 60's two teams from the AFL made the playoffs and played in a title game. That was it until 1969. Today 6 teams from each conference make the playoffs and a team can play 4 playoff games in any offseason. More teams in the playoffs and more games = more chances to win playoff games. Namath played his three playoff games against some of best teams of all time - Oakland, KC and Baltimore. Two of those teams won Super Bowls in the next two seasons after 1968 and Oakland was a powerhouse from the late 60's into the early 80s. Many teams in today's NFL get easy paths to the SB. Teams that make the playoffs are typically the only team above .500 in their division. It is not uncommon for teams to play 8-8 or 9-7 teams on the way to the Super Bowl. A team that wins a division at 8-8 can host a playoff game against a 12 win wild card team. Context. To praise Sanchez for his 4 playoff wins while playing on teams that snuck into the playoffs as #6 seeds both seasons and to knock Namath for beating teams that were championship caliber is just absurd. You lack context when it comes to Namath. You don't even know anything about that era. You are guilty of the same ignorance you are criticizing others for. I know you won't admit it, but it is here in black and white for all to see. I saw the Sanchez playoff wins. I thought he was the answer for this franchise up until last season. Now I am of the opinion that he cannot win in this league and that he is a bad QB. Whatever moxie and ability to win games he displayed in 2010 is gone. Now he is a tentative turnover prone mentally uncertain QB and that is no longer his physical limitations (too short, average arm).
we gonna act like Sanchez and the Jets weren't heavy underdogs and basically written off before several of the 4 victories?
Now you are delusional. To self proclaim that you have the ultimate credibility in this thread and on the board is comical. You don't get to judge yourself that way. That is something Francesca would say. People with credibility don't need to make statements like that. Next you'll be telling us how smart you are. "I have the ultimate credibility." Do you realize how egotistical and silly that statement is??????? By saying that, you lose credibility.
I'm not knocking Sanchez and the 4 wins on the road against very good teams. I'm knocking nyjunc for putting down others for making the same arguments he makes when he criticizes Namath. He can't have it both ways.
so what? I didn't see babe Ruth play and I know he's the best baseball player of all time. They have video, books, interviews, I am fortunate to be able to have met some all time great people associated w/ the game,... The Oak team that never won a SB is one of the best teams of all time? I will give you KC and Baltimore and I know Oak was a big time team but not one of the best ever and we got them at home essentially on a bye we didn't earn. No team has ever had an easier path than the 1968 Jets, one home game to get to the SB facing a team that had to play a one game playoff. The top 2 reg season teams played a one game playoff then had a road game on the EC(in 1968 travel was very different) against a rested Jet team- that's not a HUGE edge? and it's not like we earned that edge, it was luck of the draw. I know more than enough about that era, I know most Jet fans severely overrated Joe. The proof is in the play.
I can have it both ways b/c they are 2 completely different arguments. The argument against Joe is as an all time great, the argument for Mark is that he doesn't suck- do you see any differences? It's true. I can't help it that I am constantly dealing w/ people that don't fully understand the game and just judge based on blind #s? those that know the game respect my knowledge of it and you do too w/ the exception of the Namath stuff.
Okay, so this is why I said the other day: Good Games = Good Sanchez getting the bulk of the credit. Bad Games = Good Sanchez with surrounding circumstances getting the bulk of the blame. Your above example illustrates your bias for the first part (Good Games= Good Sanchez). Now I'm looking for a good example of the second part. I know there are numerous posts in the past pertaining to lack of coaching, play-calling, injuries, WR's who suck, people who aren't athletic enough to catch the floaters, the balls behind, the ones at the ankles, sun in his eyes, etc. I just need you to keep on posting and get to the part where we lost games and went 8 and then 6.
This is all your PERCEPTION. I am stating a fact, no Jets QB has started and won more playoff games in NYJ history and he's only played 4 seasons. I can't help it if that bothers you, nowhere did I say he carried us or he was the primary reason but rather " the man helped us get closer to a SB than we have been since 1968 "
You are comparing apples and oranges. Eliminate the wild card games that didn't exist when Namath was around and Sanchez is lucky to ever get to the playoffs in the first place. Namath has not only a conference championship, which Sanchez will never have, he has a Superbowl win, a game Muck will never play in. Muck Sanchez is, and always has been, dog shit.
it's not his fault that junc's NFL knowledge and insight makes a lot of posters/sanchez haters here timid
Thats the play that made me sick of Sanchez that night. Gates is a good 5 yards in the back of the endzone. Why is Sanchez still holding the ball?! Its clear that he is staring at gates right in the face and the D hasnt adjusted to it. A lob would work, a sidearm strike can do it, just throw it. Sanchez has plenty of room to make that play. Maybe he just had a brain fart or something but it ruined the game for him for sure. Well not for sure but it just added to his already subpar day. Sanchez makes that TD pass, I believe that he wins the job. Its a stretch for me to say this but his first drive was great, his 2nd drive was good, minus the pick, and his day would have been done. Its just a mystery as to why he can have such a great opening drive, no mistakes, hitting receivers in stride, and just balling on the D. Just what clicks that has him make the Winslow mistake. I hear it was the wrong route but scan the field first quick because Hill was open. What was he thinking?
What's funny is he even pump fakes a bit. He's WIDE open and Mark pump fakes. I mean, I guess you have to be a wide open DB for Sanchez to throw to you, but damn... #SwaggingWhileTalking
These are all opinions. There are many people on this board who understand the game just fine. There are many who don't IMO, you are wrong on Sanchez here also. He is not capable of winning anything with the Jets. Maybe somewhere else down the road with a great surrounding cast, but his days here are numbered. Playoff wins years ago mean nothing. I thought he had something - that he could elevate his game in big games. But he shit the bed in 2011 and 12 in big games and I've grown tired of it. I can wait another half or three quarters of a season if need be before Smith takes over, but count me firmly in the Smith camp. Sanchez is not the answer so its time to find an answer. I couldn't give a rat's ass how many playoff game he won 32 months ago.
Lol For me, personally, Junc's credibility took a major hit when BeastBeach exposed him for talking out of both sides of his mouth. BeastBeach caught him that time because his memory was strong enough to check Junc's previous posts on that subject matter. That really makes me wonder how often Junc spins arguments without anyone noticing or checking his bullshit.
Clearly he is capable or we wouldn't have been able to win 4 road playoff games and have 2 chances at the SB. w/ this team? of course not, Brady couldn't win w/ this team- he'd win more(or any other top QB) but not a SB. I said all offseason I don't know if he can ever regain his form here, he may need a change of scenery. people have this perception that I think mark is the next Brady and that we are SB bound, my point all along is that I don't want to give up on young talent. mark has regressed- partly his fault, partly the fault of the Jets, he's been through so much here that it may be impossible to succeed again here but I'm rooting for him to earn another shot and if geno wins the job I will be rooting for him.
