The reason Sanchez throws so many game killing Red Zone picks is because the field is so compressed down there, and the game moves even quicker than usual. A QB is forced to make quick reads and accurate throws into small windows in the Red Zone ... Two things you simply can't trust this guy to do.
To a certain extent, he can get away with sucking on the rest of the field because there's a lot more room for error, but he can't get away with it down there. For every throw he hits in that area, there are probably another three or four that are just off-the-charts bad.

For the record ... It never gets talked about because there were a dozen other ways he killed us in that Titans game ... but the dropped TD throw to Cumberland was God Awful and cost us 4 points immediately .... And he's good for one of those practically every week because you can't count on him to consistently hit a target that's 5 yards away. He leaves potential points all over the field. It's a bit of a problem.

    Love the understatement.

Let's not forget the defense getting over-worked from his turnovers and three & outs.

They never had a chance to take off their helmets on the sideline....let alone enjoy a hot dog.

Sanchez this preseason compared to last preseason is like night and day to you? I see the same mental errors and inconsistency that has plagued this team for 4 years. He has more passing yards and 2 TDs this preseason but other than that, the completion percentage and turnovers are identical.

    2013 preaseason: 23/36, 294 yards 2 Tds, 2 Ints

    2012 preseason: 24/35, 203 yards 2 Ints

Same old Sanchez. He had a chance to take control of this QB battle and failed. I hope Geno plays lights out against the Giants. Then I will be able to be cautiously optimistic. If Sanchez is our starter I already know what to expect.

So is Hobbes banned for good? I had a pretty safe bet going with him. I was looking forward to his new sig I had planned. I will miss reading his ridiculous post in defense of Sanchez. Oh well there is always nyjunc. :metal:

Good rookie season? RGIII had a good rookie season, Russell Wilson had a good rookie season, Luck had a good rookie season! Sanchez's numbers in his rookie season were pedestrian at best, in 2010he regressed from that so called "good" rookie season and then the next 2 years were historically ABYSMAL!

If you are one of those that believe, that since the JETS made the playoffs those 2 years , and by some strange and unknown algorithm, that this clearly proves that SANCHEZ is a "good" NFL QB, then maybe you also believe that the best move TANNS ever made was giving an extension to one of the all-time worst NFL QBS, and setting an entire franchise back 5 years!

As much as I agree with you, it's not an argument you are going win. I am okay with the jets moving on from Sanchez but last year was not a year that the board should blame solely on MS.

The jets had no one on offense and probably the worst OC since BS, that however is not a fact that many on this board will admit to.

3 Offensive systems in five years under one if the most inept offensive HC in football is not a recipe for success for any QB.

Honestly, I don't know what the answer is on offense, I just hope that whoever gets the starting job has a good season for the Jets.

  7. So I guess the fact that Sanchez's team made it further than ANY of those other Qbs playing in NYC counts for nothing?

So I guess he made absolutely NO plays all of those first 2 years & simply handed the ball off every single play?

Conversely I'm sure every time the team lost or had a bad drive it was his fault too, right?

There is a such thing as reasonability & layers to things. Not everything is an absolute truth.

Who is he going to brag to about that?

This year, in LIMITED playing time in the preseason, he literally and pretty much single-handedly cost his team points on THREE separate occasions. This was in about 12 series where he threw a pass. He's costing the Jets points about one-quarter of the time, and this is what passes for improvement? One out of every 4 drives...ouch. Do you really think that this is a problem he will be able to fix in a few weeks? It's not really that new.

Who cares about a nice pass here and there if this is the thing that defines him more and more?

He's back to performing to maybe a little below the 2011 level of his play, what I thought was his best year until the midway to end of season. He's scoring to cancel out turnovers, but the turnovers are brutal when they happen as the happen in the worst circumstances. It's just scary that after watching Sanchez for 4 years, I still don't know what we are getting game to game, drive to drive to him. You see those glimpses of what got him drafted so high and highly praised heading into the NFL, but then those glimpses have just been glimpses.

I think there's a difference between saying Sanchez was good his rookie year and Sanchez was good at what he was needed to. Sanchez was not a good quarterback his rookie year even for a rookie because a lot of rookies have lit it up recently while keeping turnovers low too. Now Sanchez within our team played good enough, but he did not have a good season as a quarterback. His team had a good season and he has big plays and games to help them get there, but overall he was not a good QB in 2009. He was at best high 20s out of 32 QBs. So basically, rating against other rookies QB seasons recently, and other QBs in 2009, Sanchez was not a good QB. What we needed our QB to do that year, not too much, he was good, I can agree with that. But you need qualifier in my opinion to call him play good.

I don't hate Mark Sanchez. In fact, I find him to be a likable character. He was fairly candid early on in his career, and the moping everyone dislikes showed he at least cared when he screwed up.

I do think Mark Sanchez sucks as an NFL Quarterback. In fact, I think it's preposterous that he gets to play year after year. He's been bad for a long time, especially in regards to his accuracy and turnovers.

It sucks that Mark Sanchez sucks at football. Like all Jet fans I would have liked him to be a competent quarterback. He never had to be Farve, Brady or Montana. I would have been really happy if he were just Pennington-esque.

That said I've seen enough of Mark Sanchez. Really, I had seen enough by midseason of last year. That's when it crossed the line from "Our QB isn't good" to "I don't want to see this horse shit product on the field anymore".

I would love one of the current elite QBs in the league to come out and endorse what everyone here is saying

Personally I think the Jets receivers "drop" those passes is surprise that the ball was on target and they were prepared to have to leap/dive/or watch the ball sail somewhere uncatchable ;)

I think Chad Pennington sums up Mark Sanchez the best:
    http://www.nj.com/jets/index.ssf/20...eams_mark_sanchez-geno_smith_competition.html

"Mark has had a decent preseason. He's played well. He's moved the team. The biggest thing with Mark is finding a way to avoid those one or two disaster plays. If he does that, he can be really, really good and really, really effective.”
