There is just way too much focus on Sanchez playing well for stretches or which throws were good and which throws were poor. The discussion should begin and end with this: is sanchez still making the same back breaking bad decision that he has made the past 4 years? So far, that awnser seems to be yes. week 1 he threw a pick 6. the fact that he threw one isnt nearly as telling as how it happened. he has made this mistake 100 times. you HAVE to throw the ball away there. was it all his fault? no. blocking was poor, WR fell, ref missed a call maybe. but bottom line, the decision making was awful and backbreaking. a QB who learns from his mistakes and progressed throws that ball into the dirt and avoids a turnover. had he done that, it would have impressed me alot more then him going 5-5 with a TD the next drive. week 2. Another redzone interception. Again, it isnt so much the turnover then the situation. we are in the redzone. we are gonan get points. but mark takes points off the board with that play, as well as with the play right before the half. I dont care if his accuracy improves or if he looks more confident. if he keeps making horrible decisions that take points off the board or give points to the opponent we cant be successful.
Regardless of the system, consider the 1 pick/a game performance. Is that the system or the player? And Sanchez didn't even play the full game in either of the situation. Does the offense look better? Oh yeah. Does his interception problem look cured? Not in this world. Remember, he was good for at least a pick a game the past FOUR years - and he's still doing that shit.
On top of all that he went back into his "I don't trust anything" mode for a while after that redzone interception. He's the same guy. The good news is that even if Geno isn't ready and we have to start the season with him the offensive system and play calling is clearly much better. So we'll likely score more points to offset his issues.
Itd never work. People would cross enemy lines and it'd snowball into two 15k post threads. The only way it will ever end is if Geno Smith takes care of business. Then we can send this bitch to TGG Hall of Fame.
That's gonna depend on him. We're not gonna put up with his BS anymore though so he can either get along or move along. His choice.
This is a critical issue that only serves to further highlight the reality that he simply doesn't possess the necessary confidence/intestinal fortitude/etc to consistently play the position at a competent level. He's a headcase.
Last season he averaged near 2 TO per game. If he cuts that to 1, we'll be in much better shape. I'd rather have less than one, ideally, and I think that's doable once Sanchez becomes more comfortable in the system. It's still preseason, but Sanchez this preseason compared to Sanchez last preseason is like night and day thus far. It may mean nothing, but it's a good reason to be cautiously optimistic. All we need is mediocre QB play to become a playoff threat again. The D is good enough.
I dunno if 'mule' comes to mind when it comes to Hobbes, Matt ;-) Geno Smith's working at a disadvantage here. Unlike Mark, he gets a small "show us now" window to work with against a good defense through no fault of his own. Sanchez on the other hand had an extended window to work with last week and yet as the game wore on it was interesting to see the ball taken out of his hands. While the Giants DBs imho are better than Detroit's or Jax, their LBs, like ours, are susceptible in pass coverage. Conversely, I'm concerned with Eli getting the ball to David Wilson in space vs our LBs (aside from their WRs). Lastly, I hope the running game is good enough to alleviate some pressure off of Smith from having to light it up all by himself. Really would like to see this kid do well Saturday.
I'm not so sure, I think they are looking for any decent play to get him to be the starter. Should Geno play well against the Gimps, my feeling is the fat ladies singing
Everybody knows this and agrees regarding Sanchez. He is living on borrowed time. If Garrard was not retired/injured, he probably wins the job. But the Jets need to keep focused on the future and not 2013. Smith may be the QB of the Jets for the next 10 seasons and there is no reason to rush him this year. So we all need to calm down and realize that Sanchez may need to play for 1 or 2 or 9 games until Smith is ready, because it is not worth rushing Smith just to avoid Sanchez for a handful of games. The Jets CS knows this, the FO knows this, but I am not sure the fans understand this.
Actually, I do believe he is definitely the WORST starting QB in the NFL right now and his QBR, and TQBR from last year have him ranked DEAD LAST among starters, even below all the ROOKIES, and such stalwarts as GABBERT and KOLB. AND, if you look at career stats, he is ranked top 5 all-time in some of the most damning stats for a QB, so WORST all-time starting QB? NO, TOP 5 however?YES!
This is a bit unfair. Most QB's of Sanchez skill and performance level don't get anything like 62 starts in the NFL. He's going to wind up ranked much lower than he should be based on his replacement value because it took so long for the Jets to come to grips with his skill levels. The first two seasons are completely understandable. The third season was ok until Sanchez lost it late. Almost everything since December 2011 is a direct result of Sanchez regressing heavily instead of maintaining a slow progression that had occurred before that. We'd still be in the market for a QB at this point if the slow progression had continued at the same pace but Sanchez career stats wouldn't look as bad as they do right now.
