I don't disagree, but WHY ?? You're telling me a guy who played well in NY for 2 years and beat Peyton Manning and Tom Brady in the playoffs on the road suddenly can't stand regular season pressure ???
Definitely mental, he needs a change of scenery, things will get ugly for him week 1 if he plays the way he has been playing
I said this a few months ago and it's worth repeating again. Even if Winslow runs the wrong route, players make mistakes, plays breakdown all the time. It was up to Sanchez to recognize that the play is broken and looks elsewhere or just throw the ball away and take 3 points. Sanchez shit play has made it a requirement for everybody else to play perfect. From the oline, RB, WR, TE etc.
That particular play was a quick read and its reasonable to think that Winslow was where he was supposed to be until he cut behind the defender rather than in front. I don't know whether Winslow went where he was supposed to. What I saw was Sanchez make a decision on what he saw from Winslow and the ball end up in a defenders hand. If Winslow ran the wrong route, its on Winslow. If he ran the right route, its on Sanchez. Either way, the bigger issue on that specific play was a schematic breakdown from one of the two players. Someone didn't know where they were supposed to be. If it's Sanchez's fault, then its just another mistake in a long line of well documented mental mistakes. But again, we don't know that for that particular play.
West Coast offense is the second offense system that he has had to learn and the first offense with a true offensive coordinator. Tony Sparano was no offensive coordinator and Brian Schottenheimer mostly outsmarted himself with his play callling. I am not giving him a pass but I still have not lost total faith in him....yet. At least he has time to throw, unlike last year.
You're right we don't know for sure if Winslow ran the right route. My point to those that say he did and is killing him for it. So what. Jets fans for the most part gave Sanchez a pass for his mistakes. But when a rookie receiver drops a critical pass in NE he gets killed. Where is this "he's only a rookie" talk? Sanchez makes a mistake and its either glossed over or blamed on other people. Frankly I'm sick of it. And watching that play Sanchez had one read which was Winslow. The play breaks down so instead of looking elsewhere he still try's to throw to Winslow. That is the issue.
He led 5 scoring drives and we put up 27 points. That should be enough to win w/our defense and it was enough to win last night. Lets not sit here and grind away on a few mistakes that were made. How about focussing on the positives - some really nice performances on Offense and DFence last night. Oh and we smoked the Jags !! Lots of good takeaways from the game and yet the dark siders & haters feel its necessary to harp away on the negatives. Last night would have been a very good pre season game except for Coples hurting his ankle - that sucks much more than an INT.
There is no winning every mistake will be on Mark. Here is how see it. Thows that think mark is not accurate need to look a some of the throws last night big time NFL throws that not a lot of qbs can make. Then Mark does what makes people here cringe the mental mistakes.
The whole point of a quick read is to get it out quickly. If you hesitate it's no longer a quick read. That play was meant to be a strike and it didn't happen the way it was intended, whether it was Sanchez or Winslow's fault. Also, to your point regarding Hill - I can't speak for everyone but my feeling is that Hill's mistakes last year had more to do with the Jets not putting him in the right position to succeed. He WAS a rookie, and should've had the chance to earn his way into playing time rather than being anointed the new Braylon Edwards with a grand total of 57 college catches under his belt. When the Giants drafted Mario Manningham, they made him the #4 and while he did get some playing time, there was no pressure on him to step up and he ended up contributing to their Super Bowl victory. Under Tannenbaum / Rex, the Jets philosophy seemed to be giving hero status to every draft pick and anointing them the man until they prove otherwise. I don't agree with the way they handled rookies - that includes Hill last year and Sanchez from his rookie year - another guy who had minimum college experience and was expected to be a Super Bowl winner from day 1. It's unrealistic in the NFL. I'm praying the Jets give Geno Smith time to develop if he's not 100% ready to take over right away. There's no rush to get him in there... let him play when he's ready. There's no point in developing another David Carr in order to appease a fan base that craves instant gratification over a consistent Super Bowl contender.
The point is Mark never fucks up It's always on someone else Was there a miscommunication maybe But that's Marks job to make sure the best possible outcome comes out of that play
You're exaggerating the opinions of a select group of posters, which is no better than a personal attack. Your posts are basically at the level of trolling.
Jacksonville is a crappy team with a crappy defense. Sanchez played a quarter against 2nd and 3rd stringers. If he can't look really good against them who can he look really good against? Even if you think, well the Jets WR's were also cannon fodder in the second half, doesn't a real QB playing with and against cannon fodder stand out as the best on the field most of the time? I'm just so sick of watching the Jets trot a failed project out on the field at the most important position in the game. He's failed. Why are we still doing this? What possible gains can the franchise make from doubling down on failure?
Give me a fucking break Sanchez throws a pick and guys throw everyone but him under the bus Stop backseat modding
To make excuses for Sanchez's play last night is silly. He just isn't good. End the debate and start someone else
Let's say the Jets score there. The D probably lets up a long TD drive and uses up all the clock so actually it wasn't that big of a deal.
^Also, we only want to put so much of our playbook on film prior to the season. It was good to get off the field when we did.
So he should be paid like a punter And that was not even close to being acceptable If we let it slide now, he'll be prone to more turnovers in the regular season Bad habits breed bad habits
Right but if the play breaks down you throw the ball away or worst case you eat a sack. The point is that Hill dropped a crucial pass and he gets killed. Sanchez makes crucial mistakes and we're always told we need to use "context". Whenever anyone fucks up its on them. When Mark fucks up its on someone else.
