Boomer brought this up dismorning, he said the Jets have to win the Super Bowl if he were to get a contract extension. I don't even feel like a playoff appearance would convince Idzik to tie himself to a QB that he adopted. It is clear that Geno is Idzik's guy while Sanchez is Rex's guy. A playoff appearance would clearly give Rex the ability to come back but would Idzik resign Sanchez? Assuming Sanchez plays well to get to the playoffs, other teams would attempt to sign him. I think Idzik no matter what happens isnt going give Sanchez any contract. If he did it would be a one year deal but im sure another team would offer more anyway Thoughts?
He prolly needs to win the SB to prevent him getting cut. Absolutely no reason to extend him after this season.
Sanchez is signed through 2016, I believe. The question should be "How can he avoid being cut after 2013?" I think a solid season and a pay cut can keep him around. Like Jake said though: highly unlikely.
Obviously an OUTSTANDING season with very few mistakes. But I also think that what goes on around him will factor in as well. Geno is already hurt and should he develop a penchant for riding the golf buggy may impact directly on Sanchez' future. I am really hoping (once again) that he does pull the proverbial rabbit out of the hat this season. If he has anything other than outstanding and extended, this board will go into melt down
Appearance in a Super Bowl is about it. Even an appearance at the AFC Championship might be good enough assuming he plays well in that game. In other words: somewhere between virtually impossible and physically impossible. Like on a scale from 1-10 with ten being physically impossible and 9 being virtually impossible it's like a 9.9999999999999999996.
If the Jets make the playoffs with this sorry level of talent - Kiper had it right: the Jets this year are a glorified expansion team - Ryan is Coach of the Year and comes back. If Sanchez plays well AND his play is a big part of getting them there AND they do well in the playoffs (as they surprisingly did in 09 and 10), Sanchez will get to stay along with Ryan. I am not too worried about that. I expect Jets to go like 4-12 with Ryan, Sanchez, and Holmes all gone next year. Jets need a rebuild anyway and they have a lot of draft picks next year and will have plenty of cap space. It would be nice if they were all high picks.
if that's the case then Sanchez is gone:lol:. Who in their right mind would set the bar so high with this currently questionable team? The Jets truly f'ed Sanchez:rofl2:
He needs at least 2 years of good (by the definition of the word, not good by Sanchez standards) play before the Jets even think about extending him. Then there is Geno as well we need to see if he is good enough first. If not we could trade Sanchez.
Over 4000 Yards Passing Over 60% Completion Percentage Over 30 TD's Under 15 INTs The only one of those numbers he has accomplished before in a single season was Under 15 INTs (13 total) in 2010. He would basically need to have a career year. Who knows though. We all saw what happened with Drew Brees in San Diego as soon as they drafted Philip Rivers.
If we make it to the Superbowl, it will be because our defense was #1. Obviously a very long shot. If Sanchez has a QB passer rating in the triple digits, and leads us to the playoffs, AND Geno does not show much in practice/suddenly becomes injury prone, then Sanchez may get an extension. But I'm assuming Idzik would still attempt to trade Sanchez and build for the future around a QB who plays for a small amount of money for the time being.
