And they've won 2 of the last 6 Super Bowls, which says so much about their fanbase

Its hard to judge these things but the Jets fans are pretty loyal considering the little success we had. Just looking back 2 years ago when the Jets were on top, the Jets had taken control of the tri state area. The Giants were nothing compared to the Jets.

I always felt like if the Jets were ever able to match the success the Giants had, our fanbase would be much larger than the Giants. Its much easier to be a Giants fan because of the success, if they hit the lows we have gone through I doubt there fanbase shows the loyalty we have.

Detroit should be ahead of Miami. It's always packed on Thanksgiving to watch that crap team. In Miami the stadium is always half empty unless the Steelers or Cowboys are in town.

There's also a double standard. People view Jets fans as sort of Eagles fans north...many Giants fans still talk about fires in the upper deck during the 1989 game against buffalo...yet the Giants snowball game gets swept under the rug, as well as that idiot Giant fan who drove home drunk and paralyzed a little girl

Jets fans are a tough bunch though. You gotta say that about us.

We can handle anything. It takes a special kind of gall to be a lifelong Jets fan. We hate our team and we hate each other. We just happen to hate other teams a little MORE... and that's a bonding experience.

The 3 reasons why I am critical of Giants fans are because

    1) Half the Giants fans left the building at halftime of the Panthers game in week 16 in 2009. I remember watching youtube videos of parades of Giants fans leaving the game despite only being halftime

    2) Giants fans calling into radio stations saying they were jealous of the Jets success in 2010, this wasnt a single occurence either, call after call was Giants fans saying how they were jealous. This never made sense to me, less than 3 years removed from a Super Bowl and they are jealous of another team? unreal.

    3) The large amount of Giants fans calling for Coughlin to get fired before the 2011 season. I actually sat there defending Coughlin and felt he was being mistreated, yet fan after fan after demanded he be fired.

Not for nothing either but 2 nights ago I was driving home listen to ESPN Radio and there was a conversation going on about whether coughlin should be fired or not after this year if the Giants go below .500. Giants fans were calling in agreeing that it may be time for a change....this just puzzled me. I couldn't believe what I was listening to.

Wow, that video was awesome. I'm pumped to watch that game! Let me guess, that was the game they destroyed us… This style Jets uni's are what I'd like to see as a throwback. How great did Wesley and Toon look in them? I want to see big Mo sack someone wearing one of those.

Back to the topic, while I have all but 5 Jets home games since the final game of 1978, I have to say we're probably not #3. One of the criteria they base it on is tickets/sold vs. performance, and while our tickets were all sold throughout the lean years, we can all admit a good % of the fans were cheering for the other team. (But we have the performance part covered ; ) Also, a % of tickets sold in the Meadowlands were to Giants fans whose season ticket waiting list was so long, some bought Jets tickets so they could see pro football. We can all admit that, right?

Ever been to Washington DC for a Skins game? The entire area stops for it, or so it seems. I'm proud to be a loyal Jets fan with you guys, but we were ranked a little too high.

I would say that's right. It does take a special person to still be with the team, especially after the Kottie years.

That being said, I think Packers should be #1 on the list. Their fans are all over and they have a looooong waiting list for season tickets

If I did this study, and the Patriots, Jets, and Saints, came out as 2, 3, and 4, I would just throw it in the trash.

Ive lived in Miami for the past 10 years and unless this team is doing good. No one talks about them, no one cares about them and right now the Heat are Miami's team and thats all these people give a damn about. But there are alot of Jet fans around here, strangely enough.

But ill tell you, when the Jets come down to play, this stadium is packed! Even if both teams are absolute garbage, these people come for bragging rights and its always a slug fest. I have been to every Dolphins/Jets game since 2003. The place is rockin, this place shakes, and it goes insane.

Fins up? Fuck you George Lopez.

This is true, everyone I know in Connecticut is a Giants fan

But I don't understand how Oakland is #32. Maybe they have more fans outside of Oakland than actually in Oakland??

Isn't that the whole idea of a loyal fan, they stick through the thick and thin.

I see a lot of recent SB winners in the top 10. Oh well, it's a thing that's almost impossible to measure and every fanbase except the #1 will disagree where they belong.

Although for 2013 these people had the Knicks as the best fanbase and the Nets as the worst and the Pacers at 26 so they can't be all that bad

    https://blogs.emory.edu/sportsmarke...ans-and-who-has-the-worst-hint-it’s-new-york/

Reading more into it, it seems that the rankings are based on who exceeds the revenue the most. So from my biased view, the teams that haven't had SBs or consistent success recently that top this list are impressive, so us :)

I lived in New England in the 80's and 90's and their fans are the ultimate in bandwagoners. Back then, except if the Pats had a decent season, football was just a precursor to hockey and and afterthought for baseball.

The true measure of a loyal fan base if found in the upper deck.

I spent a lot of time in Boston in the late 80s and early 90s and attended a ton of sporting events up there - Red Sox, Pats (against the Jets), and Bruins. The team, the stadium, and the fans were the bottom of the barrel in the NFL and were a distant 4th of the 4 major sports teams in Boston. Boston was clearly a Red Sox/Bruins town and the Celtics mattered far more than the Pats. The Pats played in a dump and the fans were awful. Nobody cared unless they were winning. The atmosphere at Fenway and the Garden was always electric. The atmosphere at Foxboro was border line high school and the fans were disinterested. In fact, a huge number of fans in New England were Giants fans. It all changed in 2001 with Brady and Belicheck and years of winning. Watch what happens when this era ends. If the Pats become a mediocre to poor team, that stadium will be empty.

For a long time the Giants were the northernmost NFL franchise on the east coast. And they even spent a year at the Yale Bowl (or 2) so they definitely had a big hold on the area

They stunk and had the Lisa Olsen controversy plus the Victor Kiam stuff in the late 80s/early 90s. I went to every game during the Coslet/Carroll/Kotite years and our fans were beyond the bottom of the barrel as we were awful.
