Seth Walder Kenrick Ellis (back) is in shorts, so looks like he's sitting out again. #nyj Rich Cimini Kenrick Ellis now walking out to the field. No pads, no practice. #Jets Hope this is short term he looked good vs the lions.
Brian Costello Geno Smith just threw a beautiful 50 yard pass to Stephen Hill #NYJ Randy Lange LB Jacquies Smith picks off Geno Smith on a ball thrown over the middle of the field in 11-on-11 team drills.
Brian Costello Geno has been picked off twice by scout team #NYJ Seth Walder Geno Smith, against scout team, was picked off by Jacquies Smith and Royce Adams. #nyj Geno not having a good day
3 picks in the first 1:15 of practice isn't a good sign for him getting the nod Saturday. I really wonder how much it was worth it for him to rush back with his ankle. Who knows how much it's affecting him.
Manish Mehta Jets release official depth chart for second preseason game vs Jaguars. Starting QB remains the same: "Mark Sanchez/Geno Smith" #nyj Looks like after a bad day the depth remains the same.
If his ankle is feeling any better, I say despite the struggles of today's practice - they should start him against the Jags.
Yea I'm guessing it's all about whether or not he's healthy enough. The picks probably aren't helpful though.
Chris Lopresti I wouldn't worry about the Geno picks too much. This 11-on-11 period doesn't seem to be 100% live. No way to know what they're working on. Randy Lange Correction: S Rontez Miles, not Lansanah, with the interception off of Spadola's hands a few minutes ago. Seth Wadler Geno picked by scout team again. This time Bret Lockett. ... Cmon Geno.
Seems like he's been struggling a bit consistently for the past few days. If this was Sanchez he'd be getting crucified right now.
its not gonna matter. sanchez will start and when/if he shits the bed like last year - smith goes in - regardless of how many picks he throws these days.
Seth Walder @SethWalderNYDN 38s Sanchez hits Braylon for a 30-yd TD in two-minute drill. #nyj So glad this guys in green and white this year. ( So far )
If Geno's ready to start he'll start. If he's really not ready to start the Jets will default to Sanchez and then insert Geno when Sanchez screws up/gets hurt/the bye comes around and they suddenly realize they are going nowhere this year and need to get a real look at Geno. That's the Kurt Warner/Eli Manning scenario only Sanchez is nowhere near as good as Warner was so the replacement will likely come earlier in the season.
Well sure, he could've lost. It could have been a rigged competition from the start too. But if this was a legitimate competition, which has been said to have been relatively close, then Geno should get the nod this week. Im mean shit, even Hobbes will say that. Its not like Sanchez has lit this competition on fire, and Smith hasnt done too bad so far. He deserves a real shot with the 1s, vs the other teams 1s. He deserves a shot at some real play calling, unlike that conservative bullshit against Detroit. Thats the only way you can truly evaluate him. Look at EJ Manuel- he hasnt separated himself vs Kolb, but he played an entire half vs the Colts and showed some ups and downs- something the coaching staff can evaluate.
It really seemed like he had to throw that pick last week to knock his head straight.... He's been on fire since that throw. Sad day in GGN when someone has to admit the Bills are doing something right.
