The panic throws as a reflex started in 2011 sometime after the Denver game. By the Fin game at the end of the season Sanchez was chucking the ball right into the middle of the field with no thought for the consequences. That's how the Fins got two Int's by a defensive end and one by a linebacker. Last year when pressured Sanchez just gave the ball up a lot of the time. By the end of the year he just didn't care whether the throw was very risky or not, when that little clock went ding-ding-ding in his head he threw the ball and damn the consequences. That's where the crappy throws in the Seattle, Arizona and Tennessee games came from. He'd just surrendered and was waiting to get hooked. Unfortunately the one other option the Jets had got concussed in his first start and Sanchez got sent back out there. Now, due to the cap issues, he's on the verge of getting put back on the field again and this time it's going to be a disaster from the get-go. Cooked is cooked and Sanchez is totally fried at this point.
McKnight needs to get checked out by an actual doctor. His condition sounds serious. I know people who have smoked for 50 years and drink nothing but caffeine and they can walk just fine from Point A to Point B without having to stop due to being out of shape or dehydration. It has to be either mental or something severely wrong with his lungs. It's everyday at this point.
^Its called an anxiety disorder. They can be very crippling, its not an ideal state of mind for an athlete. I cant believe we would draft a guy with an anxiety disorder, although that information is usually confidential between patient/doctor. Maybe thats why we went ahead and drafted him.
I doubt that McKnight knew he had the disorder, if that's what it is, at the time we drafted him. That's something he would have had to disclose at penalty of litigation from the Jets if he withheld it. You can't hide a physical or mental ailment from a team that then subsequently drafts you. That's fraud.
He sat him twice last year without 'being ordered to'. and that is with virtually no good option to replace him. Losing Garrard as an option no doubt hurt. having Geno means rookie mistakes, but is still way better of an option than anything we had last year. Geno will need to stay healthy and earn it to get on the field week 1. But make no mistake, Geno will be starting before the season is over even if not against Tampa. btw, why do you think Rex would be ok with starting Garrard, but when it comes to Sanchez or Geno, that suddenly Sanchez is his guy?
Funny thing without some amazing luck Sanchez would have had right about 26 total turnovers in 2010 the same amount he had in 2011 and 2012. Consider this Sanchez led the league in 2010 with an amazing 15 dropped interceptions 6 more than the second place QB he also had 9 fumbles with only 1 lost fumble. Compare his fumbles to other years. 2011 10 fumbles 8 lost, 2012 14 fumbles 8 lost, 2009 10 fumbles 3 lost. Without some amazing luck he is right there with the turnovers of 2011 and 2012. But doing the same with being much more protected and sheltered and protected in 2010 than 11-12. Because of the his Fumble, poor throw rate, and mistake rate Sanchez was greatly restricted in 2009-2010. On Third down jets ran the ball a lot to limit Sanchez;s exposure to mistakes. They also had him throw a lot of quick 3 stop one read passes to limit his mistakes. In 2011 and 2012 Sanchez's mistake rate and panic actually dramatically improved for the better but at the same time the handcuffs were taken off him and he play QB much more in conditions that normal NFL QB plays in. In other words he was more exposed to NFL rushes like a normal QB, he had to throw more on third downs like a normal QB, The Jet offense was less balanced and defenses did not have to sell out on the run as much, and defenses spent more times protecting against the pass as the run was not as much of a threat. So yes Sanchez's overall numbers may have gotten worse in 2011-2012 but his play was actually much better as his numbers in 2010 was greatly inflated by him not being allowed to throw often in situations where he could make mistakes and because of the large number of dropped INTS combined with the team recovering almost everyone of his fumbles.
I think it's pretty clear at this point that Sanchez brings all the downside of a gunslinger to the table with very little of the associated goodness that allows the archetype to survive in a much more controlled and fluid NFL passing era.
You really need to stop believing in idiotic conspiracy theories when it comes to who plays qb for the Jets. Geno has every opportunity to win the job and he needs to perform better in order to do so. He has not performed well enough to win the job. That is what a competition is all about: out perform your opponent. Your boy Geno hasn't gotten it done so far. Get it?? Maybe wait til Geno does something like score a TD or throw a TD before getting all worked up w/ludicrous conspiracy theories. :rofl2::rofl2::rofl2:
People love their Rex Ryan myths. Some of these guys turn him into a religion, it's so silly. The better QB will start. Rex isn't going to blindly support Sanchez if Geno starts tearing it up.
The problem is he is not a gunslinger nor does have the upside of a gunslinger but only the downsides of high turnovers. At best he is a game manager who cannot manage the game. I have yet to hear anyone who can name something positive Sanchez can do. He has all the worst attributes a QB can have. Lack of accuracy, lack of arm strength, poor footwork, high fumble rate. high interception rate, unable to throw effectively outside the hashmarks, no pocket presence, panics when under pressure, poor at ball security, gives up on plays, has no toughness and is not willing to sacrifice his body, constantly plays afraid, unable to adjust and throw a touch pass, cannot throw to RBs, unable to extend plays with his feet, cannot read defense, is easily confused, only can look at 1/3 of the field and seems to be constantly mentally challenged. What can he do well? The only thing I can think of is QB designed runs in the red zone which he ran very effectively at the goal line in 2011. Mainly because the Jets lacked a short yardage back and offense.
IMO McKnight should have a full cardiac eval......if a young person is experiencing migraines with anxiety - it isn't too uncommon u find a cardiac valve abnormality.
Has Clyde Gates ever had a major season? Dude has 18 CAREER receptions. Brandon Marshall had 21 in one game. Not having a go, but, if you were expecting Clyde Gates to have "a MAJOR season", you were always in for some disappointment. He's not Larry Fitzgerald. Saying that you were expecting Santonio Holmes to come back and have a big year is one thing. Clyde Gates is another. I hope that he finds some space in this offense and does well. Beyond that, I can't expect a lot.
Valid points. Maybe he recently developed these problems, but Im quite sure its some sort of cognitive issue since he, as far as we know, doesnt have athsma and is purportedly in athletic condition. It has to be related to cognition. Panic attacks, etc. Either way, we cant lean on a guy with these issues.
I think Gates is going to be a reliable 3rd WR while Holmes is hurt. I think he's going to be a player we want to keep after this year. But I agree, if major season means Fitz/Calvin numbers, no way. If major means major impact, better than before, better than expected, I see that
Nobody hurts their best chance to win. Teams playing us would probably fine the player who hurt him. Those INT's won't throw themselves.
At one point in time Larry Fitzgerald only had 18 career receptions too. Some guys need time to develop..especially at WR. Writing him off solely based on prior seasons is just ridiculous. He was always a raw high ceiling type. He's also always shown speed & smooth movement. Now he's been running clean routes & catching the ball. Nobody is saying he's the answer on offense. But as a #3 w/ big play ability & about 40 catches 3-4 tds he can be PART of the answer
I hope winters is fine, I think it's his job to lose. As a rookie lineman you need to get as much experience with the guys, proper communication at the line is mandatory. As far as Sanchez taking hits, that is undebatable. The guy was taking illegal blows (not the good kind) game after game. Even his last regular season start vs Bills he stood in the pocket threw a perfect pass to Kerley and got drilled. Unfortunately Kerley didn't get both feet down, the pass can be seen on YouTube, it's. On Jeremy Kerley highlights @ 2:29 lol. Actually watch and enjoy the whole thing
