I think Idzik got a raw deal with not being able to bring in his own coach this year I think Rex need 9 or more wins to keep if job and rightfully so
Manish and the Daily News just wanted to be the first to pile on, so he waited until 3 minutes into the first preseason game before doing so. That way, he can say that he called it when Rex and Idzik get fired and we suck. A losing team is exactly what the NY media, and much of our very own fan base, wants. We are the ones buying the papers, clicking the links, and demanding to read this garbage. Remember when Manish first started reporting? He wrote some damn good articles. He found stories, researched them, and gave us really interesting reads about the team. Apparently, the brass at the Daily News told him that approach didn't sell papers, so he went Cimini with accusations, drama, anonymous sources, and sarcasm. It's worked really well for him and TDN - even got him on ESPN and NFL Network.
Blaming somebody for signing a player at a risk doesn't mean I need to produce an alternative. That's his job
Not sure if by "his" you mean Idzik or Mehta? I think if you make an article saying they shouldn't have signed so and so, or this move was a failure, it's necessary to interject other realistic possibilities, otherwise what's the point to the piece? If you don't give other viable options, it just comes off as a hit piece with no point. Which is what this came off as. If there were viable options, saying trade for this back, pick this player instead of this player, etc etc, it comes off as for me at least, a much more insightful and better article read. Anyone can say this move was wrong, this move was wrong, this move was wrong. I'm reading to see what Idzik missed and where he could have done better, not just reading to hear how he was wrong after 1 preseason game. EDIT: Even then, if you are going to criticize the Garrard and Goodson moves, criticize those moves. You can't then stretch that out saying Idzik is at fault because Sanchez threw a pick 6. You think if Hasselback or Jackson was the 2nd QB, Sanchez would have magically not thrown a pick 6? If you are going criticize Idzik, do so on the correct players. Me personally, I think one preseason is way too quick to start criticizing him, at least let the regular season start and see where the team is and see how Idzik's moves or lack of correct moves affects the team in games that count. (By saying you I'm referencing the author of the article, not you Beast)
Agreed. I'm just saying that I don't know what was available and at what price. But a singing not panning out can still be analyzed as such. Wasting money on Garrard/Goodson wasn't absolutely necessary. They were gambles
Yeah I edited a few seconds ago before you seeing your update. They were gambles, but it's hard to say Idzik is already screwing up or the honeymoon is over before we play a game that counts on the record. Like my edit said, if he wants to criticize the moves, go for it. But don't loop in this whole spiel about Sanchez, an unrealistic option in Hasselback (who has a much higher and 1 year longer contract than Garrard (and more money than Goodson fwiw)), the honeymoon being over, and pretending the draft picks don't exist.
Goodson could still come back and have a decent season. I don't know why people like woManish are acting like he's already in the past. It's just turning a molehill into a mountain after 1 preseason game that was better than any preseason game last year. People need to calm down. Ivory's practicing now, I'd bet money that Goodson will return before the season begins, and there is indeed a QB competition.
mehta is a clueless no talent hack. just barely better than richie "fake twitter" cimini. Jets fans are very poorly served by these two jamokes. in this latest idiocy mehta reveals once again that he is totally clueless about football and the business of football. Mehta's take boils down to: "Idzik should have fixed all issues w/the team in the first 6 months on the job and i refuse to tell you how Idzik should have accomplished any of this but I will cite anonymous sources close to the team when I have nothing to write about and just want to make up rumors." - attacking the new gm after 1 ps game...pretty much tells us all we need to know about this clod mehta.
The gambles the Jets took were exactly that: gambles. Nobody that the Jets signed this off-season came without question marks of one sort or another. The closest the Jets came to a risk free signing was Dawan Landry. Everybody else had issues but also had either potential or proven play if the gamble resolved in the Jets favor. Injury Gambles: David Garrard, Chris Ivory, Willie Colon, Kellen Winslow Jr Age Gambles: David Garrard, Antonio Garay, Antwan Barnes, Dawan Landry, Braylon Edwards, Kellen Winslow Jr, Calvin Pace Personality and History Gambles: Mike Goodson Talent Gambles: Stephen Peterman, Ben Obamanu, Lex Hilliard For all of those signings the Jets gave up zero compensation picks in 2014. Every player on those lists was a cut by the team that had them. That's how you maximize the returns in 2014 while also trying to field the best team you can in 2013. If a third of those players work out well for the Jets in 2013 they broke even on the attempt to gain talent for the season without losing young players for the rebuild in the process. If half of them do well the Jets FO should be in the running for Organization of the Year.
Idzik is going to turn our roster over. He's only about 30% done and we are going to suffer this year. There should be surprises in personnel and things will brighten, but that assumes that he won't get fired, which is a very real possibility considering our short-sighted and inept history.
I'm expecting something of a roller coaster season, some big ups and some big downs. A win we shouldn't pull off, and a loss that makes you want to puke... a wild 8-8 sort of season. Barring a complete catastrophic meltdown, it would be fairly poor to fire anyone at this point. The rebuild needs to take place and its in good hands between Rex and Morningwood.
We have the 13 th most cap space out of 32 teams I think the Cowboys or Skins are num 32 in least cap space look at there rosters compared to ours, Just tell me one thing Metta said that wasn't true regardless of it being the first preseason game or not it's all predictable and easy to see coming. Now it's up to Rex to captian the ship that's already off course and filling with water by the second
Turn the roster over? I would say, he has already performed addition by subtraction, among the LB corps. The DL is fine. The DBs are fine. QB, currently os fine...as long as Sanchez diesnt shit the bed, and you know my money is on him Wr...Kerley is young, hill is young, gates a question mark. So, in the next year or two, you need one more dependable body, holmes is done, as is Edwards, he has a two year window. TE, cumberland can play, Smith...we dont know, Winslow is done. Another draft need. Then you need Guards. And eventual replacements for Brick, first..then Mangold. So. In total, from this season to next, depending on the state of the college ranks, you have to come up with a half dozen real players, and an equal number of hold the fort guys,,, The hold the fort guys will pop up, as the new CBA eases into its second year Not only dod Idzik hit the Geno Smith lottery, he also hit the timing lottery. He probably as two years, maybe three where over priced vets, that still have ability will be out of work, because of tje rookie salary structure. You might see a couple after final cuts are made, and the decision falls between, guy who went to camp, and more talented guy sitting on his couch.
Beach. Garrard was a media move, to take light off of Sanchez. No more, no less. When Garrard left the facility, Idzik was probably patting himself on the back. Then Smith dropped into his lap. Of he would have simply said....." we will let Geno develop, and see what happens" there would be no circus. But he doubled down on the "competition" thing that wasnt. Like I said earlier, dont listen to what they say, watch what they do. They passed on QB twice. They could have afforded Kolb(marty), flynn(idzik) but as you pointed out they spent that money gambling on RBs. Idzik isnt a fortune teller, so...you cant sayhe KNEW Smith would be available at 39... (clearly had he taken Geno, and Richardson that would be different...could have had honey badger at 39...) He was letting his money ride on El Taco Loco.
You act like this is an old and broken down roster that needs an overhaul. Plus, your post is vague and presumptuous. I'm guessing that you are just saying this because he is the new GM and you can only presume that a new GM just HAS TO overturn personnel. Please be specific, since you have a percentage attached to it. I'm also guessing that you can't.
This may be one of the dumbest things I have ever read on this forum. Including every single thing 51pa ever said, not excluding an accidental post meant for a chatroom about him riding his bike, hitting a bump, and having his neck chain bounce up and hit him in the teeth.
We certainly weren't 13th when the off season began. Now that everyone's spent most of their money we are right where we want to be. I already broke down Mehta's article and I pointed out 2 blatant lies and several speculative statements. I'm just saying it's too early to judge. You are acting like it was possible to keep Revis without hurting the team for years. I don't see how that's possible, but if you or Manish knows, I'd love to hear it.
