I'm telling you. Bank on it. Schottys down the field and outside system of offense sucks flat out.(23rd last year with Bradfords "career year" :rofl Then last year, Sparano cut throws to players in the backfield to half from 2011. Go back and watch the St.Louis game. Sanchez was sacked 4 times and hurried at least 4 and hit 4 more, and posted 118 passer raring, completing 75%, and not throwing a pass in the last 10 minutes, playing a game that looks like Martyball, minus the screen passes.
Ok, so all three QBs are doing well in camp leading to the first pre-season game. Purely as a Jet fan, putting all prejudices aside of who we want or not, and avoiding the memories from last year to sip in I can categorically say.. THAT IS the best possible outcome we could hope for. Starting Sanchez Friday is the logical outcome of pre-season so far. No surprise there. He is the incumbent, he has played well enough so far, and it provides for a a smoother and more disciplined transition for Geno to get his feet wet. It smells to me of good coaching from MM and Rex. Pre-season games will tell us plenty about the performance of these guys and the readiness come season time. If all three shine, would not be at all surprised if the following happens 1) GMac gets traded for a pick. 2) Sanchez starts the season, Geno impresses enough, giving the CS the confidence he can very well be the long term solution for the Jets. He can continue to hone his skills and buy time, knowing that he is the heir apparent. 3) Sanchez will be put on the spot to perform, mediocre will not cut it. If we win, he stays. If he becomes erratic and makes rookie mistakes he will ride the bench the rest of the year and all eyes will be on The G man. 4) If we go with Geno on day one knowing he needs a little more time and he falters, then reversing to Sanchez will be a colossal failure to all, especially Geno, the coaching staff and for sure to Sanchez. It creates a scenario were confidence is eroded on both QBs, and leaving the rest of the team with a sour taste wondering who the hell gives them the best chance to win. 5) Once the decision is made to go to Geno there is no going back. Reversing to the incumbent is not much of an option. Throwing Geno in the fire before his time is in MHO the worst move we could make, leaving our future bleaker than our present.
no, you said the garrad thing, no dispute there. I just felt it was weird that you had to bring that up, as if to say "I was right on this and I'll be right again and then you'll give me a cookie and I'll feel great about myself!" thats admittedly unfair of me I guess, i don't really know you it was just a knee-jerk reaction to seeing something that seemed awfully self serving to bring up. respond as you may, i won't go back and forth, its pointless. I want the Jets to win and yes i will accept sanchez as a means as of doing that if he wins the competition you so believe was over before it began. you seem to take it to a more personal level. but once again i don't know you and won't continue.
Why does everyone think Geno has had a great camp? He's been slow to deliver the football and seemed to be lost at the goaline. I get the excitement about him, but to say he's had a great camp is a bit of an overstatement.
the G-mac thing... why trade him? keep him as backup, if anybody goes on the trading block in the next 12 months its Sanchez. playoff tested QB, can play alright in a WCO or with weapons, maybe some other QB with weapons falters and they feel he can get the job done in a new setting.
You might very well be right on that. I just have a gut feeling that if the right offer comes the GM way, he will pull the trigger on G-Mac. Ideally trading Sanchez would be the absolute best, again everything to gain and nothing to loose by all 3 playing lights out. go Jets.
I think he had a great camp up until yesterday where some flaws were evident. He's still a work in progress - I was fooled into thinking he was ready this fast, should I stayed with my gut feeling.
you might not have been fooled, its just that what he was doing couldn't last. I've been ready to leave my judgement on these two on an overall pattern I see over a few weeks with the mindset to take a grain of salt to everything I've heard. so far its a lot of up and down but one thing is for use is that geno can't be discounted. even the last couple of days haven't left me to be rid of that mind set. now should this continue...
The ideal (but low probability) situation for me is to have Mark start, do well, manage games, be like Alex Smith and show value. Then maybe we can actually deal him instead of cut him. I think he sucks, but I am certainly not rooting against him for the sake of the franchise. Sorry, I put the Jets first.
Funny how Sanchez has 2 good days of camp and now all the pro-Sanchez posters come out and start chirping like it wasnt even a competition and Geno wasnt ready from the start. Sanchez is still the Sanchez of 2011/2012 until he proves otherwise. Two solid days of camp and Geno throwing an interception doesnt do anything for me. I also dont see how starting Sanchez indicates much going forward other than the fact that they are still unsure on who to start. Lets wait until friday night before everyone gets their panties in a wad.
I'm over exaggerating but he hasn't been great since 2009 Lets put it this way go back to 2009 would you still trade up for Sanchez
