Before training camps, there was a poll that was about 50-50, leaning towards Sanchez. Their performances lead to this shift. There's still the preseason and that can very easily cause another shift either way. My prediction is Geno as of now, but I wouldn't be surprised to see Sanchez start week 1.
I'm not all that interested in Sanchez starting, but I really have noticed people jerking off at the notion of starting Geno after that scrimmage without even taking into account that Geno got to play first team most of the day. You can want the guy benched without providing a lopsided argument.
Geno had some problems, like Sanchez. The sack issue has to go down. However, with Sanchez, he overthrow Gates(I believe) in the endzone and by all accounts threw a bad ball right to Cro. I believe this was with first team offense. I would personally rather deal with sacks than fighting a losing battle in correcting Sanchez's accuracy issues
On the other-side, if Geno does blow chunks we can draft a QB in round 1 - and get rid of Mark Sanchez all-together.
Even if he doesn't play well, I find it hard to believe that the Jets would pick a Qb in the first round next year (unless it's Bridgewater, possibly).
I want McElroy to start. He's a good enough game manager. Give Smith time to develop. Won't embarrass us like Sanchez. But since they won't give him a chance, Smith is the clear choice.
I know, right? 1 losing season in 4 years, 4 playoff wins, worst record being (6-10). It has been tough to stomach.
I think Geno will start. They already know what Sanchez can do or can't do. Geno has done some good things and I think Jets will roll the dice with him. Let's hope he can deliver.
I've noticed the same thing (thanks to Leberfeld, who does seem to acquire man love for backup QBs like Brooks Bollonger). What happened? Is this because of McElroy talking to the press after 2011?
I think at this juncture, we need to keep drafting QBs until we find one that fits this franchise. If Geno starts this season he needs to prove something to this coaching staff - he shows flashes, I think we draft offensive weapons early and often. Bridgewater, Fales, Carr, and Boyd are attractive QBs on the rise in college football.
lol simms must post on this sight who else would have voted for him? didn't see nyjf's post before I posted
i will probably put up another poll after the 3rd preseason game. maybe even after the second. it is surprising to see the results so lopsided to geno at this point when they were so close a month or so ago.
