so a solid overall guy thats good while moving in the pocket? poor mans big ben? (at least I think ben was good while moving in the pocket) okay then. seems like a premium JAG like I said earlier though from that description. needs help around him to make him work at all, not a QB that can compensate for less than the best, but will work if you have it ... if his decision making and tendency to panic doesn't get in the way. for me that matters and can't be discounted. but alright, it just seemed odd to base the whole argument on wins without giving examples of what lead to them for his part. (which was seemingly what you were doing, and why i asked) weapons are important but he needs individual positives to build them around and needs individual skill to execute on the field. sometimes it feels like his defenders don't look into his own part of things enough, just look he almost made thats enough right? you have a weird way of looking at things, but hell at least you're only here arguing about the past in your perspective. you aren't hell bent on skewing things your way like that other guy...
Said what "same thing" exactly? What LT said and how he phrased it was pretty damning towards Sanchez. He alluded that it was pretty much a done deal unless something drastic happens. My take...the Jets feel they need a change at QB. They appreciate and like Mark, but they've seen the best of what he has to offer, and this "competition" gives everybody the best option to save face. No other team was gonna take on his contract. We're on the yellowbrick road Idzik is the man behind the curtain. Welcome to Oz... Junc...don't worry. You'll be well taken care of.
I have said if things are close Geno will get the job. I don't worry about the barbs from LT, there is a reason his ex-teammates hate him when he leaves. he always has things to say and he's trying to make a name for himself in a new business which he's not very good at. He should be thankful Mark and co. helped him get closer to a SB than he ever got in his career.
You mean the 2000 unit? They certainly do. At least over a 16 game schedule. Not a big surprise Rex would think the defense he coordinated was as good or better than the 2000 unit that he did not (positional coach). Forget that I wholeheartedly disagree that McNair is even a borderline hall of famer but by 2006 he certainly wasn't anywhere near elite.
over 16 games is very different, the 16 game sched has only been around since the late 70s. You said they set the record for fewest pts in a season, that's not true. In PPG they are 9th. The '06 D was very close to the 2000 D in terms of production and McNair may not have been young anymore but he was still good and still considered better than Dilfer. if they got Dilfer production from the QB they would have won another SB that year.
Why would I be comparing total points to the 14 game schedule? Of course I meant over a 16 game schedule.
you said they set a record for pts allowed, that wasn't true and as great as that D was they still needed quality play at QB to win and would have won more if they would have gotten better production at QB in the years after.
Fine, I'll clarify: The 2000 Raven defense allowed the fewest points over a 16 game schedule. And not in what was the equivalent of the dead ball era.
I guess I should just post stats and realize they tell us everything. I'm going to do that for the 3 best d's of the last 30 years. Stay tuned.
Who is saying stats tell us everything? Anyway why do you like to argue conjecture things like "If Sanchez was on the Giants they would have won a SB, while the Jets would have had the same success with Eli"?
B/c that is what I believe. Everything is not black and white. eli and Sanchez both played very well in their playoff runs, the biggest difference came from D and STs, that cannot be disputed.
A little fun thing with #s comparing the 3 best Defenses in my time as a fan(early 80s-current, that won SBs). 1985 Bears: actual points allowed(removing O/STs) 189. 11.8 PPG 2000 Ravens: 151. 9.4 PPG 2002 Bucs: 176. 11 PPG looks like Bal is best but... opposing O actual pts scored: Bears: 20.4 Ravens: 16.4 Bucs: 20.3 Differential: Bears: 8.6 Ravens: 7 Bucs: 9.3 Now it looks like the Ravens are 3rd among this group and TB is #1 #2 aren't always black and white
During the season, whenever I look at the football column in the sports section I always find myself looking at the PF and PA columns and doing the same thing mentally. This is especially true as the seaosn progresses and we're playing a team on a given Sunday I know very little about... let's say the Vikings or Arizona or whatever. I find myself looking at those two columns to see how they are doing in their divisions and so far around the league and maybe get an idea of what we're up against that day. There's no question that a team who scores more points than they give up is a team to be reckoned with, especially if the spread is pretty big.
