I totally agree that he's in a world of legal shit eventually, but there's plenty of guys who've been in that situation and still practiced up until their trials. So if it's the case that he's currently in such a clusterfuck that the courts won't even let him go to work (ie in jail or under house arrest) until he's in real shit, then why on Earth would Idzik not just cut him? If he's in jail at this point, before anything real has happened, that basically means there is zero chance this guy plays unless he's exonerated, and that's probably a year or more down the road. It just doesn't add up as to why he'd still be on the team if that was the case.
Yeah, interesting points. And you're right, why hasn't Idzik just cut him? The answer is probably that he hasn't been charged yet and maybe the investigation is on-going. Just speculating. And maybe the Jets themselves have told him they don't want him in Camp yet or until something is known definitively because it will cause a distraction? Hard to say, but your chances of spotting George Zimmerman are better than spotting Goodson. Somebody's got him in lockdown and it's probably his lawyer.
I also wonder if the Jets have to wait until he is charged before they can release him, due to financial reasons. I wonder if practicing would initiate a payment ect?
He made bail and after the grand jury got the case no trial date has been set yet. He is getting the rehab program done now so when he goes to court it looks like he put the first foot forward considering there is no debating the fact he was slush drunk when they found him. This is a very common tatic used when small amount of illegal drugs are involved. As far as the gun that was found in the truck. The owner of the gun has claimed ownership of it (the driver) but since it was state police that made the arrests they never make decisions on cases like that and leave it up to the attorneys to settle that stuff. Goodson will not be going to jail over this matter as long as the owner of the gun continues to claim ownership of it. Once again Goodson is in a very well known 28 day program in southern NJ and doing the math probably will start hearing about him again in about a 1--2 weeks.
Hahaha... I was referring to Goodson, If a small bag of marijuana had him slurring and vommiting on himself,.. He should share.
Thanks for this update and this is very good news. The gun thing sounds like a non-issue now and the other drug charge can be pleaded down to no jail time. Sounds like he could be back on the field again fairly soon.
He doesn't need any more drama that's for damn sure. Kid needs to watch himself off the field and take care of business when he's on it.
I'm surprised this hasn't popped up in at least one coach/GM/MM interview. nothing frrom teh Jets' front office? Sounds like you are right with the rehab thing, which is good news. Hopefully the place he is in has a good conditioning program =).
does goodson have a history of this kind of thing? my original instinct was basically that the jets should cut him for, if nothing else, being too-stupid-to-believe. as time goes by, i'm more of a mind that, if it's his first such offense, he probably deserves one last chance. particularly if the legal ramifications are minimal.
My guess is he is in a rehab facility at the behest of his lawyer and the Jets. Besides the fact that he truly needs treatment, it would shed favorably in his legal and NFL standing.
Boy, we really could have used him.Ivory has been hurt and Mcknight sounds like he's off to a slow start and hurt himself yesterday. Luckily for us, we are loaded at WR and we have a top notch QB so we can just throw the ball all around..... not
He does have a track record of small incidents (google information). I just found out (google of public record search) Mike Goodson entered paper work to the court in preparation for a PTI plea bargin (pre trial intervention). For us as jets fans this would be good news. There is no PTI for weapons possession, only drug or non driving alcohol related charges. This adds tot he fact the owner of the truck is still claiming ownership of the gun and mike is just dealing with the drug charges. The thing with PTI is basically you do probation for 6 months and get to walk away with no conviction. No conviction would make it easy for the Jets to keep him on the roster. For those who don't know. The PTI program in NJ is on about a 12-18 month back log. Mike wouldn't even miss a day for over a year from now.
Either way rehab does not really make sense just based on his violation. Let's assume he clear on the gun charge bc it belongs to his friend. There is no violation for him being drunk. There is a violation for possession but even assuming he is responsible for the pot, it is typically fine, community service, drug counseling. If he went to rehab it would have to be his personal choice because this was a symptom of a larger problem. And it would have to be a pretty significant problem for him to do it in the middle of camp. Think about it, he got busted at the end of May. He could have easily enrolled in a rehab June 1 for 30 days and not missed camp. Something is not adding up.
I think you are forgetting about the "large amount of weed" (some reports said 1/2 pound) found inside the truck that no one has yet to take ownership of. It would be logical thinking if the weed was actually the property of the truck owner he would have owned up to it when he owned up to the gun. PTI would not apply to "possession with intent". If in fact it does belong to Mike Goodson he would need to take the defense of it was his for personal consumption. hence the need for a rehab program to back up his defense of personal consumption. Also someone probably would not want to take this step until he found out it was going to the grand jury which he found out in mid June.
