in the US, Messi and Ronaldo are among the 50 most popular athletes, and Messi is ranked ahead of Dwayne Wade. http://90minutesstrong.com/2013/03/soccer-is-slowly-but-surely-growing-in-the-united-states/ actually, they mean a lot to junc, which is why he is so intent on opposing them. The lady doth protest too much, methinks.
that's one city where they play 81 home games for baseball and just 17 for soccer. Let's compare the rest of the Cities that have baseball and soccer teams: LA: Galaxy: 21,764 chivas: 8,780 Dodgers: 44,915 Houston: soccer: 19,906 Astros: 19,236(w/ an historically bad team) KC: soccer: 19,709 Royals: 21,963 Toronto: soccer: 19.446 Blue Jays: 31,760 NY: Metrostars: 18,314 Yankees: 39,977 Mets: 27,061 Philly: soccer: 17,475 Phillies: 38,749 Dallas: soccer: 15,830 Rangers: 39,277 Denver: soccer: 15, 025 Rockies: 34,896 Chicago: soccer: 13,774 Cubs: 33,009 Sox: 23,121 NE: soccer: 13,744 Sox: 34,321 DC: soccer: 13,688 Nats: 33,630 yeah, it's pretty close:rofl2:
who cares about meaningless polls? (the same one that tells us soccer is #2 for 12-24 yr olds:lol. when you have real evidence get back to me. There's no way you believe this nonsense, is there?
junc Don't base your popularity claims on MLS. Again. As a soccer fan I have never been to a Red Bulls game. Or even watched on the TV. But I wake up at 6:30 AM on Saturday's to get ready to watch English Premier League matches on Fox Soccer. I also pay for Fox Soccer Plus and Goal TV. That being said, I am sure there are many soccer fans like me who don't enjoy MLS but watch premier soccer games. Similar comparison. People don't watch Turkish Basketball League but NBA is so popular, people wake up at 3 AM to watch the NBA play offs. Can you say basketball isn't popular in Turkey by looking at Turkish Basketball League ratings or attendance records? Evantually, MLS will also gain steam and soon MLB and NHL will be under soccer in terms of popularity. Count on it.
That was in response to shade(the same man who once told me Kaz Matsui was better than Derek Jeter) but that's all we have. we don't have attendance figures for those teams in this Country. The only way MLS gains on other sports is if they can attract the best Int'l talent, I don't see it happening but I hope it does. I have no idea about Turkey but I do have an idea about this Country.
SNY to broadcast select Cosmos games: http://www.newsday.com/sports/media/watchdog-1.812020/watch-cosmos-on-sny-1.5799068 More tangible growth.
you know the metrostars have been on MSG since their inception, right? how does this show growth showing select games? wait- they open Saturday? I thought they were starting next year? This is the first time I have heard this mentioned yet soccer fever is all around us:lol: How could this be? what growth!:rofl2:
When you have evidence to dispute the polls get back to me. That is why you are opposed to the evidence -- you can't dispute them.
I took a poll and 96% of the people don't care about soccer, it is about as relevant as the poll you keep referencing.
have they had ads on WFAN? I know the hosts aren't talking about it. No, I don't listen to WFAN anymore.
pretty much, who did they poll? we need to know specifics not just the results. He could have polled 100 kids playing soccer, we don't know? show me how he got those #s, that would carry more weight than some silly poll results.
if you want to dispute the poll, not oppose it, it is your duty to research the methodology and show fault in it. otherwise all you are doing is committing an ad hominem -- you can't dispute the findings so you are attacking the researcher by claiming (without merit or evidence) that his methodology has no merit. if you want to engage in an actual debate, which you claim you enjoy doing but have not done so here, you have to dispute your opponents arguments and evidence with equal evidence. otherwise you aren't engaged in a debate, you are just being contrary.
why would I waste my time w/ such a foolish poll? It is obvious to anyone who pays attention that it is nonsense, there is nothing behind that poll. we can all find polls that tell us what we want to hear but the proof is in: attendance, ratings, merchandise, sportscenter, etc... not in some silly poll.
