How many SBs did the Bal D win w/o Dilfer? how many did they get to? Playing QB is not all about #s. It's hard to win in January, maybe a QB can be masked for a game or 2 but 2 postseason runs in a row? 6 games? not happening.
If the Ravens kept Dilfer they win another Superbowl. Another Qb that was not near as bad as the media made him out to be.
even the ravens themselves underestimated Dilfer. They though w/ Grbac they were going to roll to another SB, they didn't even get back to title game and wouldn't win another playoff game until 2008(after the '01 WC game). Dilfer was not a great #s guy but he was vital to the success of that team. Obviously they won w/ D first but you still need quality QB play and he gave them that.
What has that guy ever done in this league? Oh 2 Super Bowl MVPs? That was all defense. Mark carried us to TWO AFC Championship game losses. He has to be rated higher than Eli. I seriously doubt it. They lost Jamal Lewis the first day in camp in 2001. A 33 year old Terry Allen was the leading rusher in 2001. When your team is built on a strong rushing attack and D it is hard to win when you lose the rushing part. Grbac wasn't very good but they wouldn't have done any better with Dilfer.
SB XLII Eli leads NYG to 17 pts vs. NE SB XLII Eli leads NYG to 19 pts vs. NE 2010 div rd AT NE Mark Sanchez leads NYJ to 28 pts. Mark didn't carry us and Eli didn't carry NYG either, he had better talent and a much better postseason defense. Both of his title games the GW FGs were set up w/ great FP by turnovers. The differences in their 2 title game wins and our 2 title game losses were the Ds and STs not the QBs. Eli played very well for NYG, Mark played very well for us.
you know that in 4 games Lewis averaged 3.3 YPC in the 2000 postseason, right? you know his high in that postseason was 3.8 YPC, right? the 2 games he gained good yardage were both blowout games protecting leads. They won w/ great D and w/ big plays from the pass game then ran out the clock.
You forgot the 2 Super Bowl wins. What did Eli do when his team was losing in the last few minutes of both games? You admit that Sanchez didn't carry us to anything yet you rank him higher than the guy who has 2 Super Bowl rings. :rofl2: You know that in the 2001 playoff loss to the Steelers the Ravens had 22 rushing yards right? That is 2 YPC. The only game they were under 100 yards in 2000 was against the Titans when they had 2 defensive scores. The 2000 Ravens allowed a total of 23 points in the 4 post season games. They allowed 7 points in the Super Bowl and scored 14 points with the D and special teams. A lot of other QBs besides Dilfer could have won a Super Bowl with the Ravens that year.
he had a ball stick to a helmet then found a wide open Plax for the win in the first one. His D's kept him in those games, they didn't do what our Ds did in the '09/'10 title games. you know they only had 11 carries all game long, right? they were down 10-0 early before falling down 20-0 before halftime. That usually will slow down a run game. Lewis was under 100 yds at Ten and vs. oak, the 2 closest games they played all posteason. In the 2 blowout wins they had over 100 yds running out the clock on poor YPC. The D actually allowed zero pts in the SB, STs allowed the lone TD. Bal had great Ds for years to come, how come they couldn't get to a SB? let alone win it again.
He had 1 lucky catch on an 83 yard Super Bowl game winning drive. He accounted for 81 of those yards by himself. He threw for 255 yards and 2 TDs in that game. He had an 88 yard drive in the next Super Bowl win and accounted for 72 yards by himself. He threw for 296 yards and a TD in that game. He had more to do with those wins than Sanchez has in any playoff win we have had. You ranking Sanchez ahead of a 2 time Super Bowl winner is all I need to know about you. You are a major homer and 95% of this board knows it. I was not specifically talking about Lewis alone. I was talking about the running game as a whole. They were only under 100 yards against the Titans. A wore out 33 year old Terry Allen was a part of going down early. You are right. The special teams allowed the kick return for the TD so the Ravens D allowed 0 points in the Super Bowl. How would they have ever won with someone other than Dilfer at QB. Thanks for reinforcing my point!
That's quite simple, the 2000 Ravens had an all-time great defense. Probably one of the top 5 ever. They set the NFL record for fewest points allowed in a season. Other Raven defensive units were very good (though they were mostly mediocre throughout the decade)...but they weren't the 2000 unit. Simple as that.
it is amazing how the storyline changes depending on who junc is talking about. eli is lucky because he led the game winning drive, and its all about his defense. then he talks up trent dilfer. is it all about playoff wins or not? oh no well flacco isnt as good because he had good talent. but mark was responsible for leading his team of talented people 2 games short of where flacco did. its absolutely painful to read at this point.
I agree. Dilfer wasn't great, but he was the heart and soul of the team. He was the leader and the guys all loved and respected him. Getting rid of him was a big blow to the team. The Ravens seem to always over react to super bowls. This year they gut half the team and over pay Flacco. Sometimes you just wonder. Will we see the Ravens win it again this decade? I doubt it. When you win a superbowl, generally speaking you should keep the team as close to it was as possible.
i try i really do. i go weeks at a time not bothering with him and then i feel obligated for the rest of the board to tell him what i think. its painful that i cant get off the junc...
Such a typical average fan observation... Why do you refuse to embrace his true-by-default knowledge? You know, he never tries to convince people - only educate them. When it comes to in what fashion a person "debates", there's supposedly a world of difference between the two...
Dropped passes don't count, Well at least it seems they don't when it comes to using that to defend Mark.
