Barring injury, I think Sanchez. It gives Geno more time to develop. If Sanchez shits the bed and any playoff hopes are in jeopardy, they turn to Geno. I think it's tough to start Geno because if he sucks, you go back to Sanchez. It's really tough to then, in turn, to go back to Geno. I think they only start Geno if he CLEARLY outplays Sanchez. This is the scenario I'm hoping for, because I already think Sanchez has reached the "Richard Todd Point Of No Return".
I think Sanchez starts because Rex probably wants to give him one last chance to redeem himself. This time however if Sanchez shits the bed he'll be pulled quickly
I feel like it's gonna be Sanchez but I don't understand why. The question more people seem to be asking is will Geno start week 1 or week 5? If that's really the options, then why waste 5 or six games just to find out what we already know. Just let him play and take his lumps. Whoever wins it I just hope they win it cleanly. Winning the job because you're slightly less shitty than the other guy doesn't exactly inspire confidence.
this is exactly how i feel... my concern is that sanchez will still play decent and because of his contract will get the start. I really don't think I can watch another Sanchez game. I will never forget that Titans game on MNF
Logically, Sanchez makes sense. He's got the experience and has played well in a similar offensive system. He's had post season success and played in big games. HOWEVER, Geno Smith has had way more college experience than Sanchez and outperformed him substantially in his senior year. He's not nearly as raw as Sanchez was in 2009, and I think he would be capable of running the offense. He can handle a pass heavy system. Geno's hungry and has a lot to prove. I think he'll step up and earn the position. I know he's the underdog, but I believe he will continue to improve and we'll see some nice things in the preseason.
I'm surprised the voting is as close as it is right now. I assumed most people had Sanchez penciled in for week 1 starter. I did for a while but I just have a feeling Geno is going to take this thing in Cortland now. Maybe I'm just being overly optimistic.
If Geno Smith shows enough for the Jets to be confident that trotting him out there will not be a total disaster then they're really likely to go with him. Trotting Mark Sanchez out week 1 vs the Bucs and Darrelle Revis has total disaster written all over it.
Sanchez until the bye depending on playoff contention Geno though could steal it The first 2 preseason games will tell all
Sanchez all season. I think he plays much better than last season especially if the majority of the WRs are healthy. Said it before I'll say it again Geno isn't ready yet. I believe the voted are going to Geno because they hate Sanchez completely. I don't see it as a disaster.
Most know that Im one of Geno's biggest supporters... but If its who I think the Jets will put in, its Sanchez. If its who I think the Jets SHOULD, its Geno (as long as he proves he isnt over his head). I think Geno can take this competition, he has the better arm, better ball, better athleticism and he makes better decisions. I know there has been reports that his ball placement needs improving, but it is day 1, and he was great with ball placement in college- throwing to two short receivers who had smaller catching radii. Braylon also commented that Geno seems like a leader which is encouraging. He's going to have to be if he wants to overtake a 4 year incumbent who's buddy buddy with just about everyone on the team.
It'll be Sanchez only because Geno is not ready yet and the Jets don't want to rush him out there. Add to that Ryan's lovefest for Sanchez and like some others said, unless Smith totally outclasses Sanchez in TC then they'll give Sanchez the job by default.
Its day 1. He hasnt even gone through his first training camp. Why cant he be ready? As MM said himself, Geno's athleticism can mask some of his weak points, and then once those weak points are improved upon over the season, the playbook ca open up.
Geno has too many fundamental flaws right now. They are better off letting Sanchez take the bumps and bruises for now. One TC won't fix that. It will take some time. Geno will be the starter one day I believe. Being athletic won't fix his poor footwork and ball awareness it just won't. He should get the Kaepernick treatment. If he cant get the basics why expand the playbook? That's a recipe for disaster.
Barring an injury to Sanchez, I don't see the rook supplanting him, yet. I think the other question worth asking is who will be the starting QB week 16?
Geno is much farther along than Kaepernick was. Why cant he get the Russel Wilson treatment? Or Andy Dalton? Id say those are better comparisons- Geno has played in 3 different systems (one being a pro offense) and has succeeded in all. Sanchez is fundamentally flawed also at this point. If Geno proves he's as good or better, why not give him a shot? If he struggles, you put Sanchez back in there until Geno is more prepared. Im not saying throw him in there just to throw him in there, but if he earns it, and is as good as Sanchez, a 5th year starter? Hell yeah he would be my choice. I think its stupid just to sit Geno just to sit him. If Im Rex, and Sanchez cant pull away from Geno, Im going to have a hard time giving Sanchez the nod- because if you dont have a winning record then, you very well could be out of a HCing job.
