who were we going to take who would have beaten out kerley/hill/gates for playing time? better to wait and take/sign one next season
The way I see it, the Jets fans at the draft, are pretty ignorant when it comes to the players in the draft, why are people booing and confused at the Milliner pick? I get the Richardson one, but that kid is a heck of a football player, I think they just show up to boo no matter what happens, and it really is sad, but it's true, I was really excited at all 3 picks, because we got some really good football players out of our first 3 picks, ones who have the potential to all be future pro bowlers
We also had to trade Darrelle Revis, the guy has no honor in anything, honor a damn contract you greedy bastard, 16 million can go to 2 really good players with heart instead of 1 guy who isn't as important as other positions, I want them to cut Sanchez, eat the money and take the cap hit, and just have a ton of cap space next year
You need to understand the concept of "rebuilding". When a team is in a total rebuild, which we are, you need to draft the BPA at every spot. You need to also set the foundation before adding the bricks. What Idzik did was perfect. He drafted Milliner, the BPA, at 9 and Richardson, the BPA, at 13. BPA on his board, not everyone else's. By doing so, he confirmed the corner spot now that Revis is gone and he potentially created the most dominant DL in football. He then went out and drafted competition at the OL position. We all know very well that this team has struggled like all hell to run the ball. Build the team from the bottom up. Now we will have a dominant defense and a solid OL. The only way you can have a successful QB is to have a great OL. With a great OL, everything else falls into place. What you fail to realize is that we are going to have somewhere north of $40 million in cap space next offseason. Including a ton of picks in the draft. If you thought this "rebuild" was going to happen in one year, you are severely wrong. Do you not understand the holes we have or had? RB, WR, TE, CB, OLB, QB, OL, SS, FS, and the list goes on and on. This offseason, Idzik got 2 solid RB's, a bunch of lineman, a potential shut down CB, a potential pro bowl defensive lineman, a solid safety, and a potential starting QB. That leaves us needing to fill TE, another safety or two, OLB, and WR's. You expected it all to be filled in one offseason? LOL It was either solidify the defense or solidify the offense. Both were not going to happen in one offseason. Solidifying the offense is going to take a severe makeover, but the defense, it took a couple of picks to make it potentially a top 5 unit. You have to look at the big picture. Not just what you want. This team was in dire need of depth and talent everywhere. Rome was not built in one day.
No it is not a joke. Have you seen the line now if Richardson pans out? Quinton Coples, Kenrick Ellis, Muhammad Wilkerson, Sheldon Richardson, Antonio Garay That has the potential to be one of the best in the game
0 pro bowlers a rookie, and a couple guys with ALOT to prove. that isnt potentially "the most dominating defensive line in the league". we have youth and some upside, but until one of those guys becomes an all-pro that talk is just crazy. we are just as likely to be mediocure as we are to be super dominant.
i dont see it. and if you are using potentially in a literal way, then every dline in football can potentially be the most dominant. that talk is soooooooooooooooooo premature and unlikely
If they go to a 4-3 this is going to be a D line to be afraid of. Are they there yet - no. But they are very likely to. 2013 is not the year we make a lot of noise but the two lines get a good chance to to begin working together. After next year FA and draft, with all the shiny new toys we'll be able to get, we'll be a team to be reckoned with.
As he said, we have the potential there at those positions. Not every team has the quality we do at D line. If Richardson pans out and our line meshes, there is no exaggeration in the statement that we could have a Giants 2007-esque line in a year or two. Other teams, say for example Jacksonville, are most certainly not in that discussion. We are.
He had a lot of potential but thank god we didn't get him: https://twitter.com/greggrosenthal/status/360536376942399490 Poor guy.
The Smith pick was horrible, he would have been there in the 3rd, not even the best QB on the board. 1st pick was great, if he shows up. 2nd pick was okay, I like other players better and he isn't even slotted to start. The 3rd pick was the worst possible pick on the board. Since when do you spent 1st and 2nd round picks and they aren't even starting material come game 1? Everyone says Smith should not start this year, too much to learn. Only good thing the GM did was trade MEvi$!
Highly doubt Smith would have made it to the 3rd round & he was far and AWAY the best QB left. Nearly every other QB prospect in this draft projected as solely a back-up. Smith has starter ceiling. At one time he was thought of as a top 10 pick. Complaining about value taking him in the 2nd round, huh? Also highly disagree w/ this notion that your 1st & 2nd round picks need to start right off the bat. You certainly hope they can make a contribution early..but draft picks are about building for the future. The minute you start drafting for need/the present is when you start making franchise crushing mistakes. Additionally, if you are counting on rookies that heavily..you're gonna get burnt on game day.Draft best player available & let the depth chart work out as it may. That's what the legit franchises do.
Most projections had Geno Smith going in the top 15. With the QB issues we had last year, it would have been stupid to pass on him in round 2. We drafted a guy who had a much better (and more experienced) college career than Sanchez at much better position in the draft. Even if he doesn't start this year, he'll be in good position next to carry us to the future (unless Sanchez breaks out). He was the best QB in the draft, and getting him where we did was a steal.
Concussions are real in terms of their impact on the players and the game. The NFL needs to find ways to get truly impartial MD's on the sidelines to do the assessments because a few guys should be getting retired for good on the sidelines each season. You can't do that with a club doctor, who has conflicting incentives in the situation. Until the NFL figures out how to take head hits completely out of the game, such that the few head injuries are ground shots and total accidents this issue is going to be very hot for them.
If Millner is truly Revis 2.0, he's starting out on the right foot by holding out his rookie year for more money
Revis didn't hold out his rookie year and neither is Milliner. You obviously are confused with your terminology. It is not possible for an unsigned rookie to hold out. Dumbass.
