The coverage Woods receives from the national sports media is absolutely ridiculous, especially when you consider that he has not won a major in 5+ years now - 21 tourneys and counting. In the past five years, he is a JAG - just a guy or just a golfer. So why do we have to endure Tiger updates in every major??? Why do we have two stories for every major - 1) what happened and who is winning or who won, and 2) how Tiger did.

Let's face it, Tiger is a complete jerk. Why anyone would root for him is beyond me. Besides the horrible way he has handled his personal life, he acts like a 5 year-old on the golf course and treats the fan base like crap. Then the attention he gets from ESPN is a complete embarrassment - to them. ESPN ran no less than 3 articles during the British Open proclaiming that "golf needed Tiger to win" (Ian O'Connor) to articles proclaiming he would win (Rick Reilly yesterday). In fact, every other article Reilly writes is Tiger glorification. ESPN promptly took the Reilly article down shortly after Mickelson won.

Now for Mickelson. There is guy the golfing world could and should root for and there is a guy that is good for golf. He is incredibly fan friendly, always smiling and self deprecating, and is a great family man. I find his story compelling. His wife has overcome cancer. He has overcome arthritis. He balances his family life with his career. His caddy loves him and was visibly emotional today. To see Mickeslon surrounded by the love of his family after each of his major wins has been heart warming.

Tiger, on the other hand, hasn't smiled at anything in over five years. He is a home wrecker. He fired his caddy, who thought he was Tiger's friend. He expresses disdain for the fans. There is nothing redeeming about him, except he was great 6+ years ago.

It's time for the golfing world and the golfing press to stop the Tiger adulation and treat him for what he is - just another golfer on the tour who can't win a major.

I fkn hate Phil. All these bs crap about him being a family man and his wife battling cancer is good headlines, but the guy is an asshole. You want arrogant, look no further than Phil. I mean, who the fck withdrawals from a tournament because they're "tired". Psssh. Tiger never quit.

Tiger set the bar so high for himself that him not winning a Major in 5 years makes him a "just average golfer". LMAO.

Because a lot of people started watching golf because of a Tiger. A lot of people only care for or against Tiger. A lot of people want to see Tiger. That's why they cover Tiger so much.

I feel like sports in general gets more viewers when there is one dominant force or player or team, and you tune in to root for them or against them. Hopefully it changes and golf on TV can do without Tiger, but the ratings impact is still there. People care

Sorry didn't mean it that way joe blow. It's good for headlines and all, but what Tiger dealt with the past 5 years and how he's been portrayed by the media and the world, than having to go back out on the course and compete at a high level and be bashed for not winning is crazy.

My bolded post had nothing to do with Tiger Woods and everything to do with YOU describing (in the same sentence) Mickelson's wife's battle with breast cancer as "BS crap" so don't spin this as having anything to do with Woods. You went on to call Mickelson an asshole and arrogant.

As for your "what Tiger dealt with the past 5 years" comment, Woods brought it on himself.

    Get bent, homeboy.

Exactly. It's the same reason why the media focuses on the Jets. They are a low bottom of the league ranked team, yet they get more coverage than the Giants or Cowboys. It's because people love to root for them and root against them. Covering the Jets more = more ratings, just like Tiger.

It's also funny as hell saying Tiger "folded". He's NEVER won a Major when not being in the lead entering Sunday.

Exactly. This wasn't against the norm for Tiger. This is what happened in all the majors he has lost before this one. Doesn't have lead going into Sunday, doesn't win the major.

I wouldn't say Tiger folded when the entire field other than Mickelson played over par. That was a tough tournament and Mickelson did something no other player could. Mickelson played great and so did Tiger.

Westwood held a 2 shot lead at 3 under heading into the Final round, but it was Tiger who folded. *smh*

Share my thoughts? With you, you bigoted, racist jerk?

Alright, but first let's look at some of YOUR TGG thoughts, YOUR TGG contributions:

    JERK:
From the "Multiple Explosions at Boston Marathon" thread:
    Finish with a bang!

    BIGOT:
From the "Benedict XVI to Step Down" thread:
Not sure if catholicism is just a cult or its followers are just stupid and pedophiles. Enjoy worshiping your idols you catholics.

    RACIST JERK:
From the "Which State to Retire To" thread:
USA are a bunch of crooks. And the planes that crashed into the towers were just paper airplanes. Dumb haole.

    BOY GENIUS:
From the "Which QBs Would You Trade Sanchez For Straight Up?" thread:
    I'd take Tebow over Sanchez.

My thoughts? I think you're a bigoted racist tool Tiki Boy. What else you wanna know?

Sorry to the others for the hijack.

Woods and Vonn - a perfect match. He, a dirtbag who by banging prostitutes put his wife at serious risk. She, banging a skier 9 years her senior at 16 and later, after he supported her battle with depression and drugs bailing on her marriage inside of a year. Two dirtbags made for each other. And that hack Ian O'Connor once again missed the boat.

Um, he's the number one ranked player in the world, Majors lately or not. He has twice as many wins as anyone else on the tour this year. He has more than $1 million more in winnings than his nearest competitor. He's certainly NOT "just a guy". Just because the tournaments he won weren't arbitrarily deemed more important doesn't mean he's not still winning them and not still the best in the world.

That was fine when Woods was winning majors and was the best player on the tour. However, the first two articles you attached are ancient. The Post article was from 2010 and the golf today article from 2006 or 7.

Woods no longer warrants the attention he gets. He has not won a major since before the economic crisis, since Bush was President, etc.

And even if everything you claim is true, why are we bombarded with Woods articles in the print media and the internet. ESPN, particularly Reilly and O'Connor wax poetic about him before and during every major. Even though he hasn't won in 5 + years, he is picked to win almost every major by ESPN's experts. And it does not explain why, with every major, we see something like the following on the scroll on the bottom of the television.

Masters second round. Leaders: Scott -6, Mickelson -5, Cabrera -4 , 5 tied at -3. Woods +2. WTF cares about Woods under these circumstances.

More coverage is one thing, but is the lead story every Sunday the Jets game? Tiger is the lead story after every major he has lost the past 21 tries. Now its "What's wrong with Tiger?" "Will Tiger win another major?"

Greenberg could not stop talking about him this morning on Mike & Mike. He is another ESPN announcer with an infatuation with Woods. He was making excuses this morning, saying Woods might be hurt, and it looked like he was limping. I don't even think he mentioned Mickelson more than 10 seconds and then went on and on about "poor Tiger."

Mickelson shot one of the greatest rounds of golf in the history of the game yesterday and the day after we get a slew of Tiger stories. If Woods did what Mickelson did yesterday, we would never ever hear the end of it.
