Would the tat be more or less unsettling if the jersey number was that of Nick Mangold? talk amongst yourselves..
Mason was thinking about signing with the Jets pending a physical. Cotchery was still here at the time. If the Jets signed Mason, Cotchery wanted to be let go. I don't think he was a fan of Holmes either... God do I miss Cotchery though. Gave his heart and soul for the Jets.
I remember Cothcery feeling like the Jets were slighting him (which they were) by bringing in Plaxico to be the number 2 receiver. That was when Cothcery asked for his release. The Jets tried to talk him into staying then when that didn't work they signed Mason at the request of Rex.
I know you're trying to be funny, but this situation is tragic. Holmes is probably counting the days when he can cash in with another team. He is such a punk bitch.
Absolutely you want the best team possible but I don't really blame him. He was a heart and soul player for years and was well respected in that locker room and amongst the fans. He probably felt disrepected at what was going on and I don't blame him. If any WR earned the captain tag it was him, who had played through injuries and put everything out there for this team, not Holmes who I won't even begin to start my hatred for. Combine that with the circus the team was becoming with Rex's bravado and in house fighting no wonder he wanted out.
The Holmes hate is based on him having the personality and retinue of a classic diva and the production of a #2 WR. Go look at at his page on Pro Football Reference and scrape his name off the top and you're looking at a solid vet who has never been great at anything. Then try and reconcile that with the image of Santonio Holmes and you have this enormous gap between what he presents and what he produces. To make the point better: he's been in the NFL for 7 years and is 28 years old and his second highest number of receptions in any season is 55.
We can make the argument that Braylon has similar diva moments coupled with off field issues and yet Jets fans love him. So it has to be more to it than that. The guy is a slot receiver being asked to play the role of a number 1, while getting balls thrown to him by arguably the worst starting QB in the league.
I'm with you 85er, Braylon is just as big of a diva. The only thing that humbled him some was the complete lack of interest in his services after the Jets let him walk. People are so quick to ignore his many off feild issues or the fact the Holmes has had none since first playing for the jets. His contract vs production is an issue, but that was tannys mistake, not Rex's. He got that contract by turning five yard passes into game winning plays several times in 2010. Another thing fans of Bray like to over look.
Agree with all of this. Holmes has been significantly more productive than Braylon since 2010 & has not had the same off the field issues during the same time frame. Now maybe it's just posturing lip service but many young players on the jets point to Holmes being a mentor & a strong leader. He's never held out & actually took a pay cut this past offseason despite conflictive reports. I grow tired of the "Diva" labels as well as the hate for them. Fact is..every NFL locker room is full of all type of personalities. Every team has divas. Quite honestly in a sport like football..you need a few wild cards w/ some arrogance to them. We tried the whole boy scout approach under Herm & Mangini. It got us nowhere. Let Holmes play ball & as long as he is law abiding/contract abiding..who gives a crap what his personality is like off the field?
He threw the football to the other team. That was the nail in the coffin for me. here is my running list otherwise: 1) Tackled on first contact 2) Never gets up field 3) Never breaks a tackle 4) Drops easily caught passes 5) Fumbles, frequently 6) Doesn't block for shit 7) knocked off his route, easily 8) Complains about teammates to the media, while wearing the "C" 9) Directly responsible for why this team no longer has "C"s 10) Posted only 1, 100yd game in 3 seasons. 11) Never caught 10 passes in a game. 12) Ball drop celebration, celebrating when down 14+ pts 13) Injury to foot, hold knee and throw ball to other team This guy only cares about himself. I look forward to the day he is off my team.
Do we really need to hear this from you again? Are you even a Jets fan or just a Holmes hater? As for "The ball to the other team". He fumbled in the process of sustaining one of the most severe foot injuries possible during a complete blowout. Quite the reason to hate a player
Braylon and Sanchez made money the entire 2010 season. Braylon broke tackles, Braylon made DB's look like little bitches, he was a big, tough, physical receiver, that loved playing here and wore the uniform like the badest mother on the field every game. He would have come on the cheap and he would have died on the field in Kelly Green and white. The guy was a beast all of 2010. He was fast, he would get into the open field and Sanchez would just chuck it out there for him. Holmes takes plays off. You guys are blind if you don't see the detriment his behavior is to a team. Pittsburgh saw it and moved on quickly.
haha He takes plays off g. I don't want that on my team. Of all the receivers I have ever witnessed on the Jets he is my least favorite. He's really not that good and Sanchez and Holmes have zero chemistry. It was a terrible front loaded contract that BLEW Holmes head up higher than the Empire State Building. I don't expect anything different from him on the field. He is garbage, not a Champion by any means. Watch the play. Total disregard for team, just launches the ball in the air to the other team. Real Class. I remember Cotchery pulling a groin, flipping over players doing whatever it takes to get the extra yard. never saw that in Holmes.
Mmm..not a champion. So I guess that toe scraping super bowl clinching catch w/ less than a minute left doesn't count?? Game winning catches from Sanchez in 10 vs. Houston,Detroit,Cleveland, in 11 vs. Washington, Buffalo & 12 Vs. Miami when he carried the whole offense...those never happened? That's lousy chemistry?
2 examples of Holmes quitting on the team and acting like a bitch: 1) 2011 season ender in Miami. clearly quit on the team and stopped trying. when called out on it, he instead gets into a fight in the huddle. then sulks on the bench. this is a team captain? an offseason later he still does not own up to it. he instead insists he was just a media 'scapegoat' in 2011. 2) 2012 just flat out handing the ball to San Fran. Injury or not, I've never seen anything like that in my years of playing and spectating. again no accountability for the play. Honorable mention fumbling against Philly in 2011. As a Jet fan, these images i believe are more burned in my brain than Holmes. He doesn't really give a shit, and was the worst possible choice for captain. Good chance he is gone after this season barring a huge turnaround in performance and attitude.
