Just saw on the news 2 dead and 61 injured. Not sure if that's official yet though.

    They landed short.

Amazing that there was only 2 dead. A miracle.

I have yet to see where the engine mounted on the left wing ended up.

I've actually flown Asiana and on a 777 but from the sounds of it this the pilot had very little experience in this jet and it was his first landing at SFO (for anyone who has ever flown into SFO they know it's pretty wild as you look like you are landing into the bay). I hope they don't go into financial trouble because of this as they are a very good airline and as somebody who travels to Asia I like the option of flying them.

It also sounds like at least one of the girls who died actually survived and got out of the aircraft but was hit by an emergency vehicle. That just sucks...

I heard that he had something like 40+ hrs of actual flying time.. Either with this plane or just flying,
I don't remember which they said...

43 hours in 777 but over 10K in others and it wasn't his first landing at SFO just in the 777. I wouldn't jump to conclusions about pilot error as there could have been something mechanically wrong with the aircraft and he didn't have enough time to make the correct decisions.

I agree but just wasn't 100% sure about what I'd heard.
I thought they said It was his 1st time landing the 777 @ SFO so I guess that was accurate.

I'll just say this, I've worked in that business and spent thousands of hours on longhaul flights so the question I have is if this guy was training there is a very good chance the person next to him was a trainer so if this guy is doing something wrong WTF is the trainer doing? They also usually have a 2nd crew who likely would be up in the flight deck for landing and what the hell were they doing while this guy based on early speculation was flying this thing way too slow? They didn't realize until a few seconds before impact he was going to slow? Something doesn't add up. Of course maybe South Korean standards are different than ours and there was no trainer with him but my guess is it was the FO's first time landing either.

Think of the Continental Express flight that crashed in Buffalo, the girl was in training but the peron to her right was a trainer.

We just got really lucky on this one. That's the second big jet to go down in the US since 2001 and we've had two total casualties between the two of them. I guess we have some karma saved up at this point. 2001 was a horrible year though between 9/11 and Flight 587.

From some of the analysis I have seen, the slow approach wasn't the reason for the crash. The pilot panicked when he was notified of the slow approach speed, took over piloting the airliner manually far too late and in the instant during the transition from computers to manual control, the plane dipped the tail back and that was the reason for the crash. BTW, the co-pilot was probably the trainer.

Has anyone heard about new status for the possible survivor being run down by a first responder?

I was watching live footage right after the crash and one of the overhead cameras caught what looked like a yellow tarp covering a body-shaped object laying in front of a black SUV. The camera stopped on the yellow tarp for like 3 seconds and then the frame went black, then switched to a different camera.

I didn't know what to think of it at the time, but I have heard these reports about the possible run-down survivor in the past day out so and wonder if that is what I was seeing.

1st I hear about a run down survivor... If it happened, it'll be reported.

Not sure about the run down survivor but they said her injuries were consistent with being "run over".

I saw something tonight that said two flight attendants were actually sucked out of the plane and found down the runway off to the side. That could indicate that they weren't even seated although I think more likely the part of the aircraft they were sitting was ripped apart and they were in the wrong place. Apparently serious injuries but they are no longer hospitalized.
